2 SUMMER SESSION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 2016 Chungnam National University (CNU) Chungnam National University is one of ten Flagship Korean National Universities and is recognized as one of the prestigious four national universities in South Korea. It was founded in May 25, 1952, and now consists of 14 colleges, 1 graduate school, 5 professional graduate schools, 8 specialized graduate schools, 43 research institutes, 23 auxiliary organizations, and 1 university hospital. CNU has more than 30,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs with around 1,500 international students and 1,500 faculty & academic staff. CNU is in partnership with 291 universities from 50 countries. Summer Session for International Students The 3 rd year of Summer Session for International Students is designed for international students interested in attending academic courses and experiencing Korean culture throughout 6-7 weeks in summer. Students are required to take Korean Language 1 and an English elective course, so that they can transfer academic credits to their home institutions. In addition, they will be provided with various field trips and cultural events in a culturally rich nation. _ Programs (Deadline for application is March 4, 2016) Session 1 : June 21 - August 5, 2016 / 6 academic credits Session 2 : July 25 - August 5, 2016 / 3 academic credits Session 2 is available only for students from universities where the semester ends after June 21, _ Academic Courses 1 (3-credit, Session 1 & 2) Students will take a placement test on the first day of the class. This class will offer students basic understanding of not only the Korean language, but also focusing on conversational skills and academic writing. An (3-credit, Session 1 only) CNU will open one to three English elective courses during the summer session. Each course is equivalent to 3-credit hours, and a list of courses will be announced in April, _ Benefits Full scholarship for application & tuition fees, free on-campus accommodation with meals, full support for field trips & cultural experiences _ How to Apply Please submit all documents below to the Office of International Affairs. You can send scanned documents by first and then original ones by mail. Original documents should arrive by the deadline. - Application, Certificate of Enrollment, Official Transcript, Recommendation Letter, Passport Copy. (All elective courses will be taught in English, so you need to have a good command of English.) Registration Fee: 300,000 KRW for Session 1 (approx. USD $260) 150,000 KRW for Session 2 (approx. USD $130) The invoice will be delivered individually after admission.

It is known for its green, hilly countryside dotted with cherry trees and centuries-old Buddhist temples, plus its coastal fishing villages, tropical islands and high-tech cities such as Seoul, the capital. Daejeon is South Korea s fifth largest metropolis with 1.5 million population. Located in the center of South Korea, Daejeon serves as a hub of transportation and is at the crossroads of major transport routes. Daejeon is one of South Korea s administration hubs and is home to 18 universities including Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Chungnam National University. Daejeon has earned its name as Asia s Silicon Valley and High Technology City, as it has a number of academic research institutes in cooperation with CNU. 4 Program Overview Global Scholarship Program (GSP) GSP offers valuable opportunities for international students to have a better understanding of the Korean language and social customs through academic lectures. It is an ideal program for those who would like to broaden their perspective in Korean culture and life style. Benefits are exemptions from tuition fees and oncampus dormitory fees with a special stipend. Regular Exchange Student Program As an initiative to foster globalization efforts, CNU offers diverse forms of exchange programs. This program is contingent on the reciprocal agreement between the two schools. Benefits are exemptions from tuition fees, and free intensive Korean language class. Summer Session for International Students (SSIS) Summer Session for International Students is a short term program for international students looking for opportunities to have academic courses and cultural activities. The primary purpose of SSIS is to offer academic credit-bearing courses: 1 and an English elective course. In addition, SSIS offers a variety of cultural activities/field trips once a week throughout the six to seven-week summer session.
