1 5B Emilia Tous Language Arts May 13,2016 Animal Extinction Introduction Many years ago there were dinosaurs on the Earth and there were no humans. We don t know what killed them all, but we do know that they died. Some people s opinions are that it was because of a volcano eruption. Others, that it was caused by an asteroid. Since we have been here on Earth, we have hunted and caused the extinction and endangerment of animal species. According to the animal kill counter, around the world more than 150 billion animals are killed every year, and about 1,000 animals are killed per second. It is mainly because of hunting and pollution.this is very bad because, once a specie is gone it can never come back to life. For example, let's take the mammoth, scientists have tried to revive it by putting some of its lasting cells (without being completely frozen) in a mom elephant's stomach. But it has not worked at all. Hunting is is one of our main problems, and it has been the cause of many extinct species. Its results and actions behind endangered species are very important. Last but not least, now scientists have gotten to work on what to do about the big problem of animal extinction to help prevent it, but they still need our help. Actions and results behind animal extinction Animal extinction didn't come out of nowhere. According to Ark Of Life, the cause of animal extinction was because of us and also nature. This problem may have been brought by natural causes such as climate change(heating or cooling), or changes in sea levels. Other causes are habitat destruction, deforestation, cutting down a lot of trees, urbanization (a populated place/area), increased human population, pollution, global warming, over hunting/fishing, poaching or the introduction of nonnative species to a new environment. My opinion about this, is that it is really sad because there is only one Earth, and everything on Earth has its purpose and importance. If a species gets extinct; all of the other species that depend on this specie are going to be impacted. For example,if a type of fish goes extinct then the bird specie that eats that fish is going to die because it doesn't have food. If you move a nonnative species to a

2 different environment it can affect all of the animals that are native to the land. For example, let s take the Cane Toad, it was brought from Central and South America to Africa to eat all of the cane beetles. Instead they became pest themselves and began disrupting many food chains and food webs. The World Economic Forum says: Animals adapt to their environment; we adapt the environment to us. When an animal s habitat is destroyed and it can not adapt to a new environment then it will become endangered or even extinct! 3 Actions behind Endangered Specie Most of the seafood that ends up in your plate should of been in a polar bear's stomach. It is their food,and you wouldn't like it is if some weird creatures just took all the food that you have. We are over fishing/over hunting). According to the Ark of Life, sometimes extinction of certain species happen naturally. occurs due to a change in environmental conditions and the rate of this change is referred to as the background rate, but that is It what is happening now. All species will eventually become extinct because we Kendall Jones, teenage hunter, with a lion she just killed. are overhunting them. According to Alex Oosterwijk, Extinction is for ever. Once an animal species(or plant species), is gone it is gone forever. Animals go extinct for a couple different reasons: one reason is because people have over hunted species and killed some of them. According to Ark of life, another reason is because people have taken away their habitat (the place that they live). Cutting down some forests or changing the fields and pastures (land covered by grass) into urban areas can also chase away animals. At a certain moment, they have no more places to live. Finally, climate change can also influence nature, and certain insects, birds or animals can become extinct. As an example of climate change,if the temperature rises because of climate change, and there is not enough ice and snow for polar bears to live and hunt on and they could also become extinct.

4 According to World Economic Forum, Indonesia has 184 endangered animals, Madagascar has 114 and Mexico about 100 because of hunting (over hunting). This is Kendall Jones, and according to LIP she is a texas cheerleader and now she is a poacher too, and every day she posts on facebook pictures of her next to animals she has hunted. ll of the animals are endangered,like for example, the white rhino, lion, elephant, leopard, and hippopotamus Scientists are have already gotten to work According to the Center of biological diversity, scientists have studied many animal species that have gone extinct but have not found any solutions to the problem. They try to study as many animals as possible but some got extinct even before they were found. They need our collaboration. We need to work with scientists toward saving our different animal populations. Just like the scientists, the fifth graders surveyed on animals extinction,and 40% also dream of helping stop animal extinction. One of the ways we can help is by supporting the creation of National Parks. These parks allow the animal population to live freely without the worry of hunters or poachers. We can also stop building. And plant trees in areas that have been deforested. Conclusion Hunting is very bad for animals and humans, there are a lot of species that became extinct and some that are about to leave the Earth. Scientists have already gotten to work but need our help and collaboration. One way you can help is if you see any hurt animals, please take them to a veterinarian. This is so it can get better and go back into the wild. Another thing that you can do, is teach any family members or friends that it is bad to hunt/or at least remind them.
