3 The tulip s journey long time ago the first tulips bloomed high in the Central sian mountains. Travellers brought them back to Turkey, where sultans reigned. 4 Crazy about tulips! Back in those days, tulips were extremely rare and very expensive! Only the super rich people could afford to buy tulip bulbs. But those people did not plant them in their garden or put them in a lovely vase in their homes. They bought the bulbs just to sell them again for profit. That way the tulip bulbs became more and more expensive. 5 new tulip Have you ever seen a black tulip? Growing a new tulip goes like this: grower (cultivator) crosses the seeds of two different tulips. For example a pink and an orange one. He then cultivates bulbs from the seeds. fter five years, these bulbs start to flower. Only then, will the grower know if he has succeeded in creating a new tulip species with all the good qualities of the pink and orange tulip. Creating a new tulip is an intricate job and can take up to 25 years to perfect! No? Well, that s right! Black tulips don t exist.
