Learn which aisles and products customers prefer, their shopping history, and what influences their buying decisions. MPact provides shoppers store maps to quickly find items, prompt associates to customers who linger in specific areas, and communicate loyalty points and promotions. MPact offers major advantages to facilitate mobile marketing to deliver the best possible service for the customers, and at the same time maximize income potential for the enterprise be it a hotel chain or a retail establishment. The MPact platform consists of four components: MPact Beacons are small, battery powered Bluetooth Smart devices. Beacons are strategically placed in retail environments where customer locationing is required. MPact Server provides an interface to install and maintain MPact beacons throughout the deployment site. The server software utilizes an analytics infrastructure and locationing API with information provided by the MPact beacon and SDK that runs on end user client application. MPact Client SDK available for both ios and Android platforms. The client SDK integrates directly into a client application. It listens for Bluetooth Smart beacons and communicates back to the MPact server for locationing and analytic review. MPact Toolbox is an ipad application designed for easy beacon deployment and management. During a typical MPact installation, an ipad is carried within a retail area to scan each beacon s barcode. 4 Unification of WiFi and Bluetooth Smart Locationing MPact is the only platform in the industry to offer a single system with end to end locationing visibility and analytics for unifying both WiFi and Bluetooth Smart technologies. Unbelievably Easy Deployment An MPact platform deployment is easy in the sense that you can deploy, access and act on locationing analytics information on the same day. Comprehensive Locationing Services MPact offers three different locationing services based on presence, zone and aisle positions. Support for Public and Private Cloud MPact provides deployment flexibility by having your server either in the cloud or on premise. MPact runs on Debian Linux 7.3 and can also be installed as a virtual machine instance on any server on the premise or in the cloud 1. Platforms Supported Supported hardware for this release include the following components MPACT-T1B WR Beacon with universal mounting back (Orderable Part No: MPACT-T1B WR) MPACT-T1B WR Beacon with tie wrap mounting back (Orderable Part No: MPACT-T1B WR) Supported browsers for server access include FireFox 26+, Google Chrome 30+ and Internet Explorer 11+. Supported device for ToolBox include ipad 3, ipad 4, ipad Air and ipad Mini with ios versions 7.1 or later. Supported devices for ios SDK include iphone 4s ios or later, iphone 5, iphone 5s, ipad 3, ipad 4, ipad Air and ipad Mini with ios versions 7.1 or later. Supported devices for Android SDK include devices with Bluetooth 4.0 running on Android versions 4.3 and 4.4. New Features in MPact R Server, ToolBox and SDK This is the initial 1.0 release of the MPact product. The MPact platform consists of the four major components described in the overview. MPact beacons are hardware components. The rest of the platform is software applications. For the list of all features, please refer to the reference guides for Server, ToolBox, SDK and Deployment. The MPact platforms components including the Server, the ToolBox and the SDK are available as a free download for all customers. The MPact platform comes with a default Page 4 of 7

5 license of 5 beacons with 50 visits for one location for demonstration purposes. MPact licenses are based annually for locationing and analytics. For more information about acquiring licenses, please contact your account representative. 3. Software upgrade & Downgrade 3.1 Important Notes on upgrade. To upgrade to the latest version of MPact Server, please follow these steps 1. Open a terminal session. 2. Log in as root. 3. Change the folder to cd/usr. 4. Create a new folder, mkdir installer. 5. Change current folder to the installer folder, cd installer. 6. Download the <File name.gz> file to this folder or copy it from available location to the installer folder. 7. Untar the MPact tar file, tar-xvf <file name> under the directory folder created in step 4. Change permissions of the nx_installer folder, chmod-r 755/usr/installer /nx_installer. 8. Once untared, change to the install folder, cd nx_installer directory. 9. Use the following python command to start install process, python install.py. 10. When the Server installation is complete: login and configure the system parameters. 11. Wait for the installation to complete (5-10 minutes) before logging into the server. To login to MPact Server remotely: 1. Go to one of the following sites: IP>/mpact IP>/mpact 2. Enter the User Name (superuser is the default) and Password (motorola is the default), and select Login. 3.2 Upgrade/ Downgrade Matrix No downgrades are planned for this first version of software. 4. Important Notes Initial Release: There are different modes of operations that the MPact beacons can operate in. They are Battery Save mode, ibeacon mode and MPact mode. Battery save mode gives longer battery life however it requires the application to be open and running for the actual locationing algorithm to work. ibeacon mode is another mode of operation of the beacons. In this mode, the application does not need to be open on the device for the locationing algorithm to work. However with the ibeacon mode, one loses the visibility into the health of the beacon life cycle. Page 5 of 7

6 MPact mode is recommended for all beacons. MPact mode offers the best of both worlds, combining both the battery save and the ibeacon modes. In MPact mode, the application need not be open for the locationing algorithm to work. In MPact mode beacon battery life is reported for effective management of the beacon s life cycle. The default mode of operation for the beacons that are shipped from the factory is MPact mode. This includes a transmit power -23dBm, channels 37, 38, 39 and 600ms beacon interval. The default UUID for these beacons is FE B311-4A42-8C16-47FAEAC938DB. This can be changed with the help of the configuration option from the ToolBox application. 5. Known Issues: - Server Related Issues CQ/ SPR Headline Comments Licensing Internet Explorer hangs when applying license Recommend using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. If IE is used, reopen IE and the license should have applied. Analytics Editing or adding categories with comma (,) will delete all existing category values Special characters are not allowed for floor map file name in MPact but allowed in ADSP Definition of region and position names supports only three special characters (Underscore(_) Hyphen (-) and Space ( )) Workaround: Please refrain from creating category names with commas. Planned enhancement in subsequent release Special characters are currently not supported on the floor map. Planned enhancement in subsequent release Recommendation: Restrict usage of special characters in naming convention to Underscore(_) Hyphen (-) and Space ( ) ToolBox Related Issues CQ/ SPR Headline Comments Toolbox sometime cannot connect to the beacons after running for some time Opening of the ToolBox does not open up floor map automatically if the ToolBox is near the installed beacon Workaround: The Bluetooth on the ios device sometimes tends to hang after a subsequent period of operation. The recommendation is to reboot the Bluetooth radio on the ios device to fix this issue. In some cases the entire device should be rebooted Workaround: Manually open up the floor plan in the ToolBox from the tree hierarchy. The ToolBox should show the blue dot near the nearby beacon.
