4 Drivers Licence Info Purchase your Cook Islands driver s license from the Cook Islands police station for $ This licence will be valid for 1 year. If you plan to rent your car before getting your Cook Islands Drivers license Rental agencies can issue a 24hr temporary driver s license for $5.00 to ensure that you are legal to drive straight from the rental agency to the police station. This is also applicable to any airport pick-up booking. The rental car agencies can leave a 24hr temporary license in your rental car upon pickup as long as you provide them with your current driver s license information and date of birth in advance. If you do not have a valid driver s licence then you will need to do a driving test at the police station before you can rent a motor vehicle. If you do not have a scooter/motorbike licence and you would like to rent a scooter you need a valid driver s licence and must pass a practical skills test with the rental car agency or the police. If you are riding a scooter/motorbike faster than 40km/hr helmet s are mandatory. Go Cook Islands recommends anyone renting a scooter/motorbike to rent a safety helmet from the rental agencies.
