2 NZQF NQ Ref 1572 Version 3 Page 2 of 10 National Certificate in Wood Fibre Manufacturing (Pulp and Paper) (Level 3) with strands in Mechanical Pulping, Pulp and Paper Dry End, and Pulp and Paper Wet End Level 3 Credits 60 Purpose The National Certificate in Wood Fibre Manufacturing (Pulp and Paper) (Level 3) with strands in Mechanical Pulping, Pulp and Paper Dry End, and Pulp and Paper Wet End [Ref: 1572], recognises the skills and knowledge required of operators in the pulp and paper industry. The core compulsory section of this qualification recognises the fundamentals of process control techniques and the use of pumps and valves. The core elective section covers required knowledge in the pulp and paper manufacturing process, and principles of energy and chemistry used in the wood manufacturing industry. It also covers key operational skills used in the pulp and paper industry, as well as offering skills and knowledge that can be transferred into other manufacturing operations. The qualification s strands recognise the competencies required to work in a range of operational roles in: the preparation and treatment of mechanical pulp the preparation of fibre for paper making the drying and finishing of pulp and paper products. This qualification leads to the National Certificate in Wood Fibre Manufacturing (Pulp and Paper) (Level 4) with strands in Paper Making, and Mechanical Pulp Making [Ref: 1573]. Special Notes It is recommended that before commencing the Mechanical Pulping, Pulp and Paper Dry End, or Pulp and Paper Wet End strands of this qualification, candidates hold the National Certificate in Wood Fibre Manufacturing (Pulp and Paper) (Level 2) [Ref: 1531]. It is recommended that candidates hold a current first aid certificate or are credited with the following first aid standards Unit 6400, Manage first aid in emergency situations; Unit 6401, Provide first aid; and Unit 6402, Provide resuscitation level 2; or their replacements Unit 26551, Provide first aid for life threatening conditions and Unit 26552, Demonstrate knowledge of common first aid conditions and how to respond to them.

Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. 9 NZQF NQ Ref 1572 Version 3 Page 9 of 10 Transition Arrangements Version 2 Version 2 was issued following a revision to add unit standard to Elective 1 of the Pulp and Paper Dry End strand. Candidates enrolled in version 1 of this qualification can choose to complete that version or transfer to the new version. All new candidates will be enrolled into version 2 of this qualification. Version 1 was issued following the review of the National Certificate in Wood Fibre Manufacturing (Level 3) with strands in Composite Panel Preparation, Composite Panel Forming and Pressing, Composite Panel Finishing, Mechanical Pulping Operations, Pulp and Paper Dry End Operations, Pulp and Paper Wet End Operations, and Overlay Bonding Operations [Ref: 1309], which found that the compulsory section was not suitable for people who wished to undertake the Pulp and Paper strands. People who are considering transition from Ref: 1309 to this qualification should contact their training provider or at the address below for further advice. This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards see table below. Credit for Exempt from 3062, , Certification This certificate will display the logo of the NZQA, and the organisation that has been granted consent to assess against standards that meet the requirements of the qualification.
