How Solar PV Works A solar PV cell is a semi-conductor device which converts solar energy into electricity. PV Technologies Crystalline PV Monocrystalline or Polycrystalline. Modules, Strings & Arrays The multiple PV cells are interconnected and encapsulated to produce a PV module. The modules are connected in series to form a string, (Series connections increase the system voltage). A PV array is made up of a number of module strings connected in parallel (Parallel connections increase the current in the system). Inverters An inverter is used to convert the direct current generated (electricity) from the PV array to an alternative current (AC) for use on site or for exporting to the grid. Stand alone inverters are used for off grid systems. Grid tie inverters are used when the installation is connected to a utility supply. The grid tie inverter also synchronises the PV generator with the grid. Modules, Strings & Arrays 7 Solar Panel Options

2 steps to Maximise Solar Investment Step 1 Design 01 Design The first step is to design a solar system that is going to meet the energy demands of the business and to ensure that every kilowatt generated from the solar system is saving the business from buying the energy from the grid. The system design is be based on achieving maximum return on investment for your business. This is achieved by examining the business usage patterns and by undertaking analysis of the business' operational habits. When, where and how energy is used. Office use along plant and machinery usage are important factors to understand in the design process. We use state of the art technology to determine correct equipment placement for the 2 key components; PV panels and Inverters. Our mapping program allows us to determine the location that will provide the best Solar Yield. Location and orientation is the key to maximising efficiency. Working with our engineers we also ensure the system best suits the design and layout of the building and takes into consideration any particular aesthetic consideration the business may have. This tailored bespoke approach is what sets us apart from the average retailer. Our in house system designers take the guesswork out of the equation and we pride ourselves on maximising the efficiency of your solar system whilst achieving maximum return on investment for our clients. 10 Solar Panel Options
2 Steps to Maximise the Income Step 2 Generate 02 Generate The development of sources of renewable energy is a crucial part of the strategy to improve energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions. The current climate of escalating electricity costs represents the ideal opportunity for businesses to embrace renewable energy. Furthermore the integration of renewable energy into your businesses energy mix will aid in the ability to meet energy efficiency and carbon reduction targets. The installation of renewable energy is the cornerstone of any organisations corporate responsibility when looking at a solution to reduce carbon emissions. Solar PV Generation ensures that escalating electricity costs do not have an adverse effect on utility costs and budgets. Generation enables an overall reduction in your carbon footprint by reducing the amount of energy purchased. Using generated PV energy correctly and balancing your energy usage provides opportunity to provide real savings. Combined with our other Green Initiatives such as LED lighting you can continue to reduce your carbon footprint even further. 11 Solar Panel Options

Renewable Energy Incentives PV System Revenue Streams Electricity Cost Offset Solar power directly offsets peak electricity prices as it is. Available during peak tariff times. Renewable Energy Certificates STC s are based on the estimated amount of electricity, in megawatt hours (MWh), the system generates over the course of its lifetime. Your STCs can be assigned to a registered solar panel agent (such as a Solar Panel Options) in exchange for a financial benefit up front, such as a discount off your purchase price. If a system size is above 100kW, it is considered as direct generation. 1 LGC is equal to 1 MWh of renewable electricity generated. Generated output is accurately measured after the system is installed. You are able to creditthe value of the STC s and LGC s to your investment leading to improved payback periods of the PV system. This incentive scheme continues to STC s Renewable Energy Certificates Small scale Technology Certificates (Up to 100kWp) LGC s Large scale Generation Certificates (Over 100kWp) Electricity Savings ($0.15 $0.35 per kwhr) Renewable Energy Certificates ($ $0.04 per kwhr) Total PV System Savings ($ $0.41 per kwhr) 14 Solar Panel Options
Solar Radiation Map Orientation, Pitch and Shading For optimal performance, the photovoltaic array should be orientated between North East and North West at an inclination angle of to the horizontal. However in Australia, installing PV at a low pitch, i.e. 5-10, does not have a major impact on resultant output performance; less than 10% below optimum. It is important to ensure that the PV modules are not shaded during the day. We avoid placing the array where shading may affect the system. This is a critical step in our design process. Although generally installed on a roof, the PV modules can be installed on any North facing elevation. They can also be used for solar shading or as a rain screen on a building wall this is particularly suitable for prestige buildings. AC outputs in kwh (kilowatt hour) / kwp (kilowatt peak) Effect of orientation and pitch on array performance (% of Ideal). Vert Horiz East NE North NW West Solar Irradiance Average annual solar radiation (kwh/m²/day) for Australia and New Zealand Planning The majority of buildings do not require planning permission for the installation of PV modules. If the building is in a conservation area or is a listed building you may need to apply for full planning permission. Solar Panel Options recommends checking with your local council to ascertain the planning requirement for your specific project / building. as each site has individual requirements, solar Panel options will develop a bespoke package, taking into account: Orientation Location / Irradiance Level Limiting 03 factors, e.g shading Roof 04 construction / build & slope Usable roof 05 space 15 Solar Panel Options
