Not any concerns you may have about being too different or just too you. Nothing. This is why we created apprenticeships that give people a chance to grow a rewarding career. Whether you re taking your first steps into employment or finishing school, returning to work or looking for a new direction, you ll find an apprenticeship here for you. They ll all offer you valuable skills, recognised qualifications, a permanent job and, above all, our full and heartfelt support. opportunity has This helped me grow so much as a person. 4 The apprenticeship pathway We have two main apprenticeship programmes you can apply to Foundation and Higher. They re both designed to help you turn your potential into a rewarding career. It s just a matter of picking the one that s right for you. Foundation Apprenticeship This is where you can take the first step into your future and possibly your very first step into the world of work. If you re work ready (and we have a Traineeship you can take first if you re not) you can start building your career with us here. You ll take on a full-time role, earn a salary, and gain an A-level qualification. It s right for you if you re over 16, and have not completed an apprenticeship before. Higher Apprenticeship There are a number of pathways within this apprenticeship, in different parts of our business. Whichever you follow, you ll find the support you need to build on your talents, gain a degree-level qualification, and explore ways to become an important part of our future. It s right for you if you have 200 predicted UCAS points or equivalent, or if you ve left school and have at least one year s work experience. 5 The full apprenticeship pathway Our Foundation and Higher Apprenticeships are the two points at which you can join us, but they re not the only opportunities you ll find once you re here. Rather, they re two steps on an overall pathway. We designed it this way to give you a clear way forward in your career with us. All the way through, no matter which point you join or leave the pathway, you ll get full training and our full support. More than this, you ll always have options. Foundation Apprenticeship Progression Apprenticeship Higher Apprenticeship Graduate Programme Traineeship Foundation Apprenticeship Full-time role Full-time role Full-time role Traineeship No work experience, or been out of employment for a while? Get ready for work here. Length: Between three and seven weeks. Open to you: if you re over 16, and either unemployed or with little to no work experience. Foundation Apprenticeship Take on a fulfilling role, earn a salary, and gain an A-level equivalent qualification. Length: Between 12 and 24 months. Open to you: if you re over 16, and have not completed an apprenticeship before. Progression Apprenticeship Keep up your momentum, by setting out on a path towards becoming a specialist. Length: Up to 18 months. Open to you: if you ve completed our Foundation Apprenticeship. Higher Apprenticeship Gain a degree-level education, and choose from a number of pathways. Length: Three to four years. Open to you: if you have 200 predicted UCAS points or equivalent, or at least a year s work experience. 6 Who are our apprenticeships for? In a word; everyone. We ve made sure of this, because we know that potential can come from anywhere. Here s a look at how we re creating more and more options for people, whatever their background, situation or level of experience. Our apprenticeships are bolder Age is no barrier to progress at Barclays. If you re over 24 (we don t have an upper limit) we can help you make the most of your experience no matter whether you re returning to work, looking for a career change, or taking your first step into finance. Our apprenticeships open doors If you re not in education, employment or training, it can feel like the world has locked its doors to you. Our apprenticeships will start to open them up. And the more skills and qualifications you gain, the more opportunities you ll find. Our apprenticeships value service From the armed forces to the corporate world may not sound like a natural step, but you d be surprised how straightforward it is with us. Many of your military skills will prove invaluable here, and our social and support networks will help you get settled. Our apprenticeships are accessible If you have the right attitude and values, we ll make sure nothing holds you back. From adjusting our application procedures to making your working environment work for you throughout your career, we ll do all we can to level the playing field. 6 A future of your own. 8 Foundation Apprenticeship Take the first step into your future This is where you could start building a rewarding career with us. Age, background, experience, education none of these will stop you taking on a Barclays Apprenticeship and earning a salary. You ll get to explore our business, try various roles, and take advantage of the many opportunities ahead. You ll also study for a qualification, to show the world how far you ve come. If you re work ready, that s great. But if you ve never had a job, or have been out of work for a while, that s no problem. You can take our Traineeship first, where you ll gain the skills and experience to enter the working world with confidence. Here s what to expect: Between 12 and 24 months of focused, on-the-job development A full-time role to take on, leading to a permanent job The chance to study for a full, A-level equivalent qualification Our advice and full support, along with a competitive salary and benefits. Things we ll look for in you: You re over 16 You don t hold any qualifications higher than two A-Levels (or equivalent) You haven t completed an apprenticeship before You re eager to learn and ready to work hard. As you can see, education and experience aren t important. It s your positive attitude and potential to be brilliant that matter the most. A quick word on Traineeships No work experience at all? No problem. If you apply for a Foundation Apprenticeship but are not quite ready for the world of work, then your journey will begin here. Our Traineeship is a specially designed preemployment programme, and it features: Three to seven weeks training on essentials like English and Maths, as well as more specific things like customer service and how to shine in an interview A period of work experience, which will almost certainly be with us. By the end, you ll be ready to make a positive start as a Foundation Apprentice. Where can a Foundation Apprenticeship lead? There are three main options. You could move into a full-time role, focus on a particular role or area with a Progression Apprenticeship, or go to the next level with a Higher Apprenticeship. 9 Because of my work history, Barclays recommended I took their Traineeship first. I was quite relieved, because I knew I needed to build my interview skills and knowledge of customer service. 10 Foundation Apprenticeship application process 3 Join Traineeship Undertake two to five weeks classroom training, followed by a week or two s work experience with Barclays (or a longer period with a different company) Apply online Register via worksforme. co.uk to enrol. We ll then do some eligibility checks. Any questions? Don t worry: we ll give you a contact who ll be there to offer advice and guidance all the way through. At this stage, if you don t have work experience, we ll enrol you in our Traineeship. If we think you re work ready, we ll get things going with a phone call. Interview The next stage is an interview. We ll keep things friendly and relaxed, and we ll focus on what really drives you as a person, to see how well you d fit here. Decision If we can t offer you a position, our training provider will work with you to develop your skills or find a company and role that suits you. Your career begins If you ve been successful, we ll set your starting date. At your induction, you ll meet your Talent Coach, who ll tell you about the academic framework, and how they ll support you throughout your Apprenticeship qualification. 3 Telephone interview This will help us find out more about you. 11 Progression Apprenticeship Follow a path towards becoming a specialist Open to you if you re already with us as a Foundation Apprentice or a full-time employee, this is an important option on the apprenticeship pathway. If, during your Foundation Apprenticeship, you find a particular role or area that really interests you (business banking, for example, or a role as a specialist mortgage advisor) you can focus on it here. You ll continue to work in a full-time role, but your training will be more tailored to the area you ve chosen. It will be a big boost to your current work, and will open up plenty of opportunities. Here s what to expect: Up to 18 months of development in your chosen area or role Study for an industry-standard qualification Continue your development in a full-time role The perfect preparation for a specialist career. Where can a Progression Apprenticeship lead? Complete the programme, and you won t just have specialist experience and a recognised qualification: you ll have options too. You ll be able to move into a full-time specialist role with us, or to apply for one of our Higher Apprenticeships where you can take your learning up to degree level. 11 A future of your own. 12 Higher Apprenticeship It s time to start looking higher Learn, earn, and get a degree or equivalent qualification, all in just three to four years and without the debt. That s what our Higher Apprenticeships offer. We have programmes in a range of business areas. Whichever you take, we ll develop you academically; professionally, through a series of structured placements; and personally, with soft-skills training and one-to-one guidance. Alongside this, you ll find the support and opportunity to turn your potential into a long-lasting and rewarding career. Here s what to expect A three to four year development programme Study for a degree-level education Full funding, and a competitive salary and benefits The support of mentors, managers and an assigned buddy. Things we ll look for in you: You have 200 predicted UCAS points at A-level, if you re at school You have at least a year s work experience, if you ve left education You re naturally good at working with other people You can t wait to get stuck in, and get learning. Where can a Higher Apprenticeship lead? There are two main options. The first is a full-time role with us, in an area linked closely to the particular path you chose on the apprenticeship. The second, if you want to take your learning even higher, is a place on our graduate programme. It s a chance to carry on learning, carry on developing. 14 Higher Apprenticeship application process Apply online Any questions? Take some tests Telephone interview Personality quiz Assessment centre Register via joinus.barclays. com/apprenticeships to enrol. We ll then do some eligibility checks. No problem. We ll give you a contact who ll be on hand throughout the process to offer advice and guidance. These will assess some of your key skills like how you d tackle typical work situations, and how comfortable you are with words and numbers. Do well on the tests, and we ll arrange a phone call with you. This is an opportunity for us to see how you match our values, and for you to ask any burning questions. This isn t strictly part of the assessment, but it will help us form an individual development plan for you when you join. Again, this is designed to explore some of your personal preferences.
