1 Your workplace, their potential Invitation to: Alumni UK Career Development Workshop and Recruitment Fair 2014 Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou

2 Background The British Council, operating in China as the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy/Consulate-General, provides a range of support services to UK alumni in China, in particular in career development. As a kick-off event to a series of career development activities in 2014, we will run Career Development Workshops in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu and Guangzhou during mid-march. These workshops aim to help UK alumni who are seeking new job opportunities to better understand the job market in China, as well as provide them with job opportunities and better guidance on long-term career planning. Meanwhile, recruitment fairs will also be run in conjunction with the workshops, to provide effective platforms for interested employers. Zhaopin.com is our human resource partner this year. We are writing to invite your organisation to participate in the career development workshop and recruitment fair. The Event The British Council aims to provide services to Chinese students at various stages of their career journey. We have been running an Alumni UK network since 1999, which currently has more than 38,000 members. As a key part of our alumni career development strand, we plan to organise a half-day workshop together with a recruitment fair in each of the four cities for UK alumni who have recently returned and are looking for jobs or those who are considering a career change. The aims of the workshop and recruitment fair are: to help UK alumni better understand the increasingly competitive job market in China to help UK alumni understand the requirements of employers to help UK alumni increase their competiveness, realise their potential and effectively career plan to provide a platform for employers to target and recruit a niche group of highly qualified young professionals from UK

Key facts about the British Council s Alumni UK network members: Over 55% are between the ages Over 35% are Business, Management or Financial graduates Over 9% are Engineering graduates Over 7% are Marketing and Communication graduates A breakdown of participants in 2013 s recruitment fair: Over 25.5% of participants had at least three years of work experience Over 96.0% of participants had master s degrees or higher qualifications Over 71.3% of participants returned from the UK within two years of graduating Marketing and Promotion Extensive promotion will be undertaken to benefit a wider range of UK alumni and employers, including: Promotion through the Alumni UK website and Weibo Promotion through human resource partner Zhaopin.com Promotion through UK institutions Promotion through dedicated online and print media in China All applicants will be screened to ensure that they are genuine holders of UK qualifications.

4 Feedback from participating companies in 2013 In 2013, over 100 well-known companies joined the event and 90% of which had positive feedback. 80% of these companies were satisfied about the quality and quantity of the UK alumni, and 95% of these companies showed strong interest in attending this event again. 6 How to Participate 1. Recruitment fair: Shanghai/Beijing: RMB 2,000/booth (including one desk and two chairs) Early bird rate: RMB1,600/booth (payment due before 31 January) Chengdu/Guangzhou: RMB 1,200/booth (including one desk and two chairs) Early bird rate: RMB1,000/booth (payment due before 31 January) Due to venue constraints, the British Council reserves the right to make the final decision on the acceptance of participation application based on the application time and categories of organisations. Early application is encouraged. 2. Information session: The information session will be held simultaneously with the recruitment fair, and each company has 30 minutes (including the Q&A session) Only companies signed up for the recruitment fair have the opportunity to hold an information session, with a maximum of approximately two to three companies per city. The British Council and zhaopin.com will screen companies applying for the information session and reserve the right to make the final decision. 3. Promotion of enterprises: Exhibition booths are available for companies wishing to promote their products, services or recruit members. These booths are RMB10,000 in Shanghai and Beijing and RMB5,000 in Guangzhou and Chengdu. 4. Application: Please complete the attached application form and return it before 14 February 2014 (Friday) to the contact details in the attached application form. 5. Payment: Payment will be made through our partner Zhaopin.com. Payment details will be provided after receiving the application form.
