BT MobileXpress Trial Account Quick Guide Issue 8 June 2011

Introduction This document is intended to be a quick reference guide to enable our trial customers to easily install the service and effectively begin utilising MobileXpress. A download link for the trial MobileXpress Client will have been provided to you to along with your trial account credentials (Username and Password). The trial Access Code and password you receive from your Account Team can be shared by up to 5 simultaneous users. The trial account will enable you to access the Internet using the MobileXpress Professional access services of MobileXpress Wi-Fi, MobileXpress Hotel Ethernet and MobileXpress dial. Full detail of the very latest service coverage can be obtained from your BT account manager, however these services combined provide access is over 160 countries and over 2 million access locations. This trial will enable you to get a true feel for the service and to appreciate the end user experience of the MobileXpress client. If you require the MobileXpress client customised (e.g. enable VPN) then please talk with your BT Account manager it is possible to obtain some MobileXpress client customisation during the trial phase to allow you to test integration within your own service environment. The trial account does not support proxy authentication to a customer owned RADIUS server. The account is network based and is authenticated by the BT managed authentication server. The idle timer for the trial account is 10 minutes which means that inactive sessions will not be allowed for longer than this period. It should be noted that if, as a result of the trial, you decide to subscribe to the MobileXpress Professional service, the trial Access Code, password and MobileXpress Client cannot be transferred. New Access Codes and passwords will be issued along with a new MobileXpress Client as defined on the service order.

Installing MobileXpress Client BT provides a-user friendly software application, the MobileXpress client, to facilitate connections to the MobileXpress service. Details of where to download the software will have been provided along with your trial account. To install the software, run the executable file and follow the installation wizard prompts ensuring that when prompted for Setup Type, you select the appropriate type for your requirements. In Standard mode the MobileXpress client is setup as a normal Widows application and can be run once the user has logged into Windows. Advanced 2 mode (GINA operation) provides greater security to the desktop by allowing a user to authenticate their Windows log-on with the corporate network before allowing access to the desktop. Advanced mode is covered in more detail in the MobileXpress client Advanced Installation White Paper which is available on request. 1) To install the MobileXpress client you will need administrative rights on the PC. 2) Windows XP, Vista & Windows 7.

MobileXpress Client The diagram shows the client in compact (not expanded) mode, and highlights the key elements of the user interface. Along the top of the main client are a series of icons summarizing available access technologies and there status. In the centre there is an animated button which allows for connection or disconnection from a service and also provides a view of connection progress. This button will automatically present the best access option currently available. The colour of the access technology indicates its state of readiness. Green indicates available; an example being that the client recognises that the users PC has a modem and is available to the client to make a dial up connection. Amber indicates possible availability but some intervention may be required. For example, the profile may require some initial configuration such as selecting the modem prior to operation. Red means unavailable such as no Wi-Fi signal detected. If no suitable connection is available, for example user is not physically connected to a network or no suitable access signals are available, the central button will be blank. The MobileXpress client profiles are fully configurable to customer requirements but the default installation provides a standard set of profiles to use with the underlying MobileXpress service. In addition, the MobileXpress client contains fully configurable logic designed to simplify the user experience and direct users to the best connection available. Based off all available technologies, profile status and priority the MobileXpress client will present the best available option to the user within the central Connect / Disconnect button. End users simply click this central button to establish a connection to the best access option. If during a connection a better access option becomes available (e.g. move into a Wi-Fi location) the MobileXpress client will notify the user and offer them the option to step up to the better access option. If accepted, the MobileXpress client will disconnect from the current access service and connect to the new better connection. Through the Always Best Connected settings it is possible to define, control or restrict the MobileXpress client logic and define an exact priority given to different access options.

MobileXpress Client Profiles and Configuration Profiles are a list of attributes and instructions that sit within the MobileXpress client, and are used to establish the connection to the Internet. The profiles themselves are configurable in two stages. The first stage is accessed by viewing the profile settings after having selected the required profile within the client. The basic attributes shown (such as username) may be changed within the expanded client window. These are the basic settings configurable by end users although the options visible to the end user can be controlled by the second stage. The second stage provides full profile attribute access allowing much more detailed configuration and is undertaken by BT on behalf of our customers. An example would be the creation of a Wi-Fi Profile that runs a configurable VPN client in fully integrated mode. This level of configuration can be achieved through a custom profile request where BT will configure the MobileXpress Client to meet the customers exacting requirements. The following base profiles are contained within the trial version of the MobileXpress client. MX Wi-Fi - For access to the integrated MobileXpress public Wi-Fi Hotspots MX Dial - For global dial access through the MobileXpress provided access pops. MX Hotel Ethernet - For access to the registered MobileXpress Hotel Ethernet locations. Private Wi-Fi - For access to private Wi-Fi Hotspots such as at home or at the office. Web Login Wi-Fi - For access to public Wi-Fi Hotspots that are not within the MobileXpress coverage. Web Login Ethernet - For access to public internet Ethernet locations which may require authentication. Enterprise 3G - For access via third party 3G services via a supported range of 3G / wireless datacards. Service specific data will need to be entered into the profile to allow it to operate with your specific service provider (e.g. APN, provider specific username and password.) Check for Updates - To check for updates to the client or database via an existing network connection.

Getting Connected There are many access types and connections supported through the MobileXpress Client. The following sections highlight basic client operation and experience for some of the most common access options. Getting Connected using MobileXpress Wi-Fi Before using a wireless connection for access you need to be within range of a supported wireless access point. This is indicated by the Wi-Fi profile being enabled in the main window. If it is not available (red), it is because you are either not in range of an access point, or your Wi-Fi device is not present or not functioning correctly. It should be noted that it may take about 15 to 20 seconds for the MobileXpress client to sniff for available Wi-Fi hotspots, search the integrated database and set for use before displaying as available (green). For help in locating Wi-Fi access points go to Searching for Wi-Fi Access Points within the MobileXpress client User Guide which is available by selecting the? Help icon Within the MobileXpress Client User interface. Step 1: With a MobileXpress Wi-Fi access profile active and selected hit the central connect button. The MobileXpress client will begin to configure your Wi-Fi card to connect to the best available access point. Note: The exact Wi-Fi profile that will run will depend on the SSID visible. MobileXpress Wi-Fi profile will only run when in a venue supported as part of the MobileXpres service. Step 2: Enter your MobileXpress Access Code and password in the space provided and click OK to continue.

Step 3: The MobileXpress client will now negotiate the wireless connection with the hotspot Step 4: And you will be logged on to the Wi-Fi network, as shown here. Once connected the MobileXpress Client will show the Connected state. When ready to disconnect simply click the central button.

Getting Connected using Web Login Wi-Fi If a MobileXpress Wi-Fi hotspot is not found but the MobileXpress client detects other Wi-Fi hotspots that are available, the Web Login Wi-Fi profile will show Green status. This does not guarantee a connection can be made as the hotspot may use encryption or filters and/or require an additional account to login. Web Login Wi-Fi is used for connection to public Wi-Fi services outside of the MobileXpress service. Step 1: With a Web login Wi-Fi profile active and selected hit the central connect button. The MobileXpress client will begin to configure your Wi-Fi card to connect to the local access point. Note: The exact Wi-Fi profile that will run will depend on the SSID visible. Private Wi-Fi profile can be used to connect to any visible SSID. Step 2: The MobileXpress client will prompt you to select the SSID that you wish to connect to. Step 3: If the Wi-Fi hotspot requires the user to login via a web page the MobileXpress client informs the user.

Step 4: The MobileXpress client will open an embedded browser window to allow the user to log into the hotspot (enter payment information and/or accept terms of use). Once logged in the user clicks OK on the MobileXpress client and the MobileXpress client will continue with any actions as configured in the profile (e.g. launching a VPN). Note: By using an embedded browser a firewall policy on the PC can be configured only to allow MobileXpress access to the Internet prior to establishing a VPN. Step 5: If successful the MobileXpress client will indicate a Connection established to the Wi-Fi network, as shown here.

Getting Connected using Private Wi-Fi If a user has access to a private Wi-Fi hotspot at home or in the office the Private Wi-Fi profile can be utilised. Step 1: With a Private Wi-Fi access profile active and selected hit the central connect button. The MobileXpress client will begin to configure your Wi-Fi card to connect to the local access point. Note: The exact Wi-Fi profile that will run will depend on the SSID visible. Private Wi-Fi profile can be used to connect to any visible SSID. Step 2: Select the Private Wi-Fi SSID you wish to connect to. Step 3: Set the Wi-Fi Encryption, Authentication mode and Wi-Fi Encryption key (if required). Step 5: If successful the MobileXpress client will indicate a Connection established to the Wi-Fi network, as shown here.

Getting Connected using MobileXpress Dial Before connecting the MobileXpress Dial profile your PC should be connected to an access line, either a standard analogue telephone line or an ISDN line. Step 1: With the MobileXpress Dial profile active click the central connect button to establish connection.. Step 2: Select the type of access you are using to make your connection. For example Analogue or ISDN. Note: This will be stored and not prompted for again but can be changed in expanded mode within Users profile settings. Step 3: In the search window there are two drop down menus for Country and State. Select the country and if applicable the State you are in. Choose an appropriate local access location from those available in the list.

Step 4: You can select via the drop-down menu the dial number in various formats to allow local, national or international dial formatting. In most cases, you should use the first number shown. The exception is when no local access number is available. To dial the selected number, click OK. Step 5: You may need to prefix the dial number with a local number in order to gain access to an outside line. You can select a prefix number from the drop down box or enter your own one. You can also enter the letter P to force pulse dialling for use with an old style telephone system: MobileXpress client will use tone dialling by default. Click the OK button to continue. If no prefix is required leave blank and click the OK button. Step 6: If this is your first attempt at connecting using MobileXpress Dial you will be prompted to select the modem to use for this connection. Select it from the drop-down box and click OK. Note: This will be stored and not prompted for again but can be changed in expanded mode within Users profile settings. Step 7: Enter your MobileXpress Access Code and password and click OK.

Step 8: The MobileXpress client will now dial the phone number you have chosen and establish a dial-up connection. The central animated button will provide details and status as the connection progresses. Step 9: Once connected the MobileXpress Client will show the Connected state. When ready to disconnect simply click the central button. If you have minimized the MobileXpress client it can be maximized by double-clicking on the MobileXpress status bar icon.

Expanded MobileXpress Client Window Further options, such as the Wi-Fi scanner, profile settings etc. are available when the MobileXpress client is in expanded mode. To move between compact and expanded view you can click the expand icon at the top of the MobileXpress client. Please see the MobileXpress client user guide for full details of features within expanded mode. Further Information Should you like to know more about MobileXpress, please contact your BT Account Manager.
