2 Entrust Apprenticeships An Apprenticeship is a real job with training, you can earn while you learn and pick up recognised qualifications and a wealth of work experience. Apprentices are employed, initially on a fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeships, the majority (93%) of our apprentices either progress to an, Higher Education or permanent employment. Apprenticeships are available in all sectors and industries throughout England. There are more than 200 Apprenticeships frameworks available in a range of industry sectors, covering over 1,500 job roles, from Early Years to facilities management, catering to accountancy. There are three categories: Intermediate Level Apprenticeships Level 2 Advanced Level Apprenticeships Level 3 Higher Apprenticeships Level 4 and 5 Apprenticeship Frameworks are developed by Sector Skills Organisations and include a range of qualifications; all frameworks follow a standard format that comprises of: A Qualification Credit Framework Certificate or Diploma (NVQ) A Knowledge based qualification (Technical Certificate) Some Frameworks have a combined knowledge and competence qualification Functional Skills The Work Based Learning team delivers the knowledge and skills development and the employer provides the practical experience to put those skills into practice. Training may be classroom based, in a workshop or in a workplace, depending on the subject. The minimum learning hours for an apprentice is 260 hours, a record of workplace on the job learning and classroom or away from the workstation off the job learning is required. The length of an Apprenticeship can vary according to the qualification being obtained, and the industry sector. Generally, Apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete. There is a minimum duration of 12 months for Level 2. There are excellent progression routes and career pathways for apprentices, all Apprenticeships are on the Qualification Credit Framework and some include UCAS points. Upon completion of an Apprenticeship there is the opportunity to carry on working, apply for jobs with a good CV, apply for a promotion or go on to higher education. It is possible to become a Teacher, Manager, Solicitor or Accountant through the apprenticeship pathway, gaining work experience and getting paid throughout the training. Through this apprenticeship course I have expanded my knowledge which has allowed me to progress as a person and to improve my performance within the classroom and around school. I am now 19 years of age, have achieved the Intermediate and Advanced apprentices, moved to another school and I am now studying for the Foundation degree and am on my way to realising my dream of being a Primary School Teacher. 3 Apprenticeship Training Entrust has a number of training venues across the county so you shouldn t have to travel far for training or work. We offer all apprentices high quality off the job training at a training venue, sessions are delivered by subject specialist tutors who all have an adult teaching qualification. All training centres have ICT availability and there will be the opportunity for research and self study. Tutor and peer support are a valuable part of the apprenticeship and will help you gain the knowledge and skills that you need to progress in the workplace in a supportive environment. You will also be supported by a trainer assessor who will visit you in the workplace for one to one support, observation and discussion. Evidence collection and assessment is through an e-portfolio, where your work can be uploaded, you can communicate with your assessor, track your progress and join forums with other apprentices. Learning and development are a large part of an apprenticeship; employers will be involved in your training plans and will pay you for any agreed training that takes place away from the workplace within usual working hours. Business and Administration Apprentices Continued Professional Development and Apprenticeships Although apprenticeships are mainly for people just starting on a career pathway it is possible to undertake an apprenticeship as part of your professional development. We offer a range of apprenticeships and other accredited training that can be delivered through blended learning, with assessment in the workplace for more experienced learners to meet learner and/or employers needs. 4 Funding The Skills Funding Agency provide funding for apprenticeship training. The priority for funding is for year olds and year olds who are not in work, education or training. Funding for over 24 s is subject to availability and eligibility. Intermediate Level 2 Apprenticeships % funding % funding 24+ Contribution for specific places up to 50% Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeships % funding % funding 24+ No funding There is an expectation that employers will contribute towards to cost of training for apprentices aged 19 and over. Apprenticeships are available to graduates but as there isn t any government funding the cost of the training would need to be met. From August 1 st 2013 graduates are entitled to apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to cover the costs. Advanced Learning Loan From August 1 st 2013 the government are introducing 24+ Advanced Learning Loans for learners aged 24 and over studying at level 3 and above You may qualify for an Advanced Learning Loan if you are: aged 24 or over on the first day of your course starting your course on or after 1 August 2013 resident in the UK undertaking an eligible course at an approved training organisation in England Eligible courses include including A Levels, Access to HE Diplomas, other Diplomas and Certificates, s or Higher Apprenticeships Loans can be applied for at any time of the year. The loan does not depend on your income and credit checks are not carried out. Previous qualifications you ve achieved won t affect your ability to take out a 24+ Advanced Loan Repayment Repayments will be automatically deducted from your earnings through the tax system once Repayments will be made at 9 per cent of your income If your income falls below 21,000, repayments will stop and only re-start when your income increases to more than 21,000. Repayments will start from April 2016 and there s no need to repay until you ve left the course and your income is more than 21,000 a year. Page 4 of 13

5 For further information about the Advanced Learning Loan and how you can apply, you can look at Factsheet and Frequently Asked Questions for more information Age Grant for Employers The National Apprenticeship Service are providing Apprenticeship grants to employers with up to 1000 employees recruiting 16 to 24 year olds with a value of 1,500, to encourage employers to develop their business and take on new apprentices. Eligible employers will either have never employed an apprentice before or who have not recruited one in the last 12 months. Up to 10 grants can be applied for. 6 Business and Administration The Business and Administration Framework consists of: Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Business and Administration Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business and Administration Level1 Functional Skills English Level 1 Functional Skills ICT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Business and Administration Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Business and Administration Level 2 Functional Skills ICT There are no mandatory entry requirements for Intermediate apprentices although A-D GCSE English and Maths is recommended along with an interest in business. Advanced Apprentices will have experience of working in a business administration role and a Level 2 qualification in Business and Administration. Tasks may include producing documents, preparing notes, organising and co-ordinating meetings and events, providing reception services, using office equipment, setting up and maintaining filing systems, using a variety of software packages, and updating information. At more advanced levels tasks may include overseeing operational activities, implementing change within an organisation, managing teams, monitoring risks and agreeing budgets Apprentices attend an Induction day at the start of the programme, 6 training days at an Entrust Training Centre for the Technical Certificate and then NVQ and Functional Skills Workshops as required. NVQ Assessment and progress review meetings will take place in the workplace. Page 6 of 13

7 Customer Service The Customer Service Framework consists of: Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Customer Service Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service Level1 Functional Skills English Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Customer Service Level 3 Certificate in Customer Service There are no mandatory entry requirements for Intermediate apprentices although A-D GCSE English and Maths is recommended along with an interest in customer service Advanced Apprentices will have experience of working in a customer service role and a Level 2 qualification in Customer Service. Tasks may include communicating with customers, building relationships with customers, resolving problems, promoting products/services, using appropriate communication channels, keeping records, gathering customer feedback and reception duties. At more advanced levels tasks may involve improving customer satisfaction, team leading, improving customer loyalty, gathering and analysing customer feedback, processing compliments and complaints and maintaining reliable customer service. Apprentices attend an Induction day at the start of the programme, training days at an Entrust Training Centre for the Technical Certificate and then NVQ and Functional Skills Workshops as required. NVQ Assessment and progress review meetings will take place in the workplace. Page 7 of 13

8 ICT The IT Application Specialist Framework consists of: Level 2 Diploma in IT User Skills (ITQ) (QCF) Level1 Functional Skills English Level 2 Functional Skills ICT Level 3 Diploma in IT User Skills (ITQ) (QCF) Level 2 Functional Skills ICT There are no mandatory entry requirements for Intermediate apprentices although A-D GCSE English, Maths and ICT is recommended along with an interest in working in IT Advanced Apprentices will a good level of Maths English and ICT qualification and have experience of working in an IT role and a Level 2 qualification in IT applications. Tasks may include using a range of IT systems and software such as word processing, spreadsheets, internet and , updating websites, entering and editing data. At more advanced levels tasks may include planning and contributing to websites, preparing presentations and other learning resources, supervising It operators, setting up and using advanced application software features, managing enquiries, quotations and orders, and creating and reporting management information Apprentices attend an Induction day at the start of the programme, training days at an Entrust Training Centre for the Knowledge and skills components and then NVQ and Functional Skills Workshops as required. 9 Contact Centre Operations The Contract Centre Framework consists of: Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Contact Centre Operations Level 2 Certificate in Contact Centre Operations Level 1 Functional Skills English Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Contact Centre Operations Level 3 Certificate in Contact Centre Operations There are no mandatory entry requirements for Intermediate apprentices although A-D GCSE English, Maths and ICT is recommended along with an interest in working in IT. Advanced Apprentices will a good level of Maths English and ICT qualification and have experience of working in an IT role and a Level 2 qualification in IT applications. Tasks may include operating communication technology, navigating software, communicating with customers, building relationships with customers and colleagues, resolving problems, promoting products and/or services, making sales, using appropriate communication channels, keeping records, gathering customer feedback and working in a team. At more advanced levels tasks may include operating the communication technology and navigating software at a higher level, problem solving, improving customer satisfaction, team leading, improving customer loyalty, gathering and analysing customer feedback, processing complaints and maintaining reliable customer service. Apprentices attend an Induction day at the start of the programme, training days at an Entrust Training Centre for the Knowledge and skills components and then NVQ and Functional Skills Workshops as required. NVQ Assessment and progress review meetings will take place in the workplace. Hayley started her apprenticeship in 2010 with the Entrust Customer Service team; she completed it in June 2011 and secured a permanent position as a Customer Service Assistant with the Council Contact Centre. Hayley continued with her studies, undertaking an Advanced Apprenticeship. I was over the moon when I was offered my first job and then delighted with my promotion tin 2012 to Customer Feedback and Complaints Assistant which has given me more responsibility. I think that more young people should consider doing an apprenticeship as the scheme provides you with not just a qualification but real work skills that employers are looking for. You also get paid as you learn which is always a bonus. Overall, it s a great way of kick starting your career. Page 9 of 13

10 Team Leading and Management The Team Leading and Management Framework consists of: Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Team Leading Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading Level1 Functional Skills English Level 1 Functional Skills ICT Level 3 Diploma in Management Level 3 Certificate in Management Level 2 Functional Skills ICT Level 4 and 5 Management Higher Apprenticeships are available There are no mandatory entry requirements for Intermediate apprentices although A-D GCSE English, Maths and ICT is recommended along with an interest in working as a team leader Advanced Apprentices will need a good level of Maths English and ICT qualification and have experience of working in a team leading or management role and a Level 2 qualification in team leading. Tasks undertaken by apprentices will vary depending on the level and sector in which they are employed. Tasks may include planning, allocating and monitoring the work of the team, giving feedback, briefing teams, supporting team members, managing conflict, resolving problems, procuring supplies, project management, agreeing budgets and managing and improving customer service. Apprentices attend an Induction day at the start of the programme, training days at an Entrust Training Centre for the Knowledge and skills components and then NVQ and Functional Skills Workshops as required. NVQ Assessment and progress review meetings will take place in the workplace. Page 10 of 13

11 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 1 Functional Skills ICT Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 2 Functional Skills ICT There are no mandatory entry requirements for Intermediate apprentices although A-D GCSE English, Maths and ICT are recommended along with an interest in working with children and young people in an educational establishment. Advanced Apprentices will need a good level of Maths English and ICT qualification and have experience of working as a Teaching Assistant Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning. Tasks may include working under the direction or alongside the teacher to support whole class activities, as well as working with individual and small groups of pupils, contributing to planning, implementing and evaluating learning activities. Apprentices attend an Induction day at the start of the programme, training days at an Entrust Training Centre for the Knowledge and skills components and then NVQ and Functional Skills Workshops as required. NVQ Assessment and progress review meetings will take place in the workplace. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for suitability for working with children and young people is mandatory. 12 Children and Young People s Workforce Early Years Level 2 Certificate in Children and Young People s Workforce Level 1 Functional Skills English Level 1 Functional Skills ICT Level 3 Diploma in Children s Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) Level 2 Functional Skills ICT There are no mandatory entry requirements for Intermediate apprentices, although GCSE A-C grade in English and Maths are essential for Level 3, and a good level of ICT skills are recommended, with an interest in working with children and young people. Advanced apprentices will need Maths and English GCSE A-C grade as a mandatory entry requirement, with a good level of ICT skills, and have experience of working as a Level 2 Early Years practitioner, with a level 2 Children and Young People s Workforce qualification. Tasks will include working under the direction of a supervisor providing care at Level 2. All apprentices will be delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, maintaining the welfare and safety of the child or young person. Apprentices attend an Induction at the start of the programme, training days at an Entrust Training Centre for the Knowledge and skills components and then NVQ and Functional Skills Workshops as required. Assessment and progress review meetings will take place in the workplace. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for suitability for working with children and young people is mandatory.
