Ranger Welcome In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks. These are the words of the great naturalist and author John Muir, whose passion and dedication to the protection of wilderness places in the United States influenced the establishment of our very own national and provincial park systems. It is my pleasure as a park ranger to welcome people from near and far. Whether it is the serenity of watching the first light of day kiss the mist rising off still waters; or the excitement of seeing a majestic bull moose feeding in a wetland as you silently paddle by; or the laughter that flows from the pleasure of stories shared by friends and family around a campfire; these are only some of the many experiences offering far more to those discovering BC Parks. There is something unspoken in the joy of discovery that children find in the outdoors, as the secrets of nature are revealed to their curious minds; and no less the value to a man who has seen the seasons come and go through many years and still feels the thrill of a fish rising to the cast of his fly, like poetry in motion. From campgrounds to pristine lakes, wilderness canoe circuits and mountain hiking trails, British Columbia is home to an extensive range of magnificent and astonishing protected places. Come visit us and stay for awhile and enjoy your walk with nature. Helen Rimmer Area Supervisor, Thompson Cariboo Region 1

2 Tap Into Your Inner Explorer Majestic mountains, sweeping grasslands, towering forests, pristine lakes, luminous beaches and breathtaking waterfalls are just some of the spectacular natural areas protected by BC Parks for over 100 years! Nearly 20 million visitors annually experience everything from backcountry and marine exploration to full-service camping. With BC Parks online reservation system, Discover Camping, visitors can now reserve a specific campsite in over 90 provincial campgrounds, as well as reserve group campsites or picnic shelters. Discover Camping also has registration for backcountry permits. Whether family-oriented, like camping and geocaching, or more rugged, like backcountry hiking and rock climbing, recreational activities flourish alongside BC s cultural and natural heritage. Historic artifacts and petroglyphs help unravel stories of our first cultures, while 10-million-year-old canyon walls or volcanic landscapes deliver incredible natural history lessons to all who visit. With 1000 parks and protected areas, BC Parks has an adventure or a vacation for everyone. So grab your camping equipment, hiking boots, fishing gear or picnic blanket and come experience these memorable places.

Jerry s Promise BC Parks are very special places for kids (and grown-ups too), but above all for the plants and animals that live there. Jerry the Moose, BC Parks mascot, helps park visitors learn about ways they can keep parks healthy for all to enjoy now and into the future. Jerry asks park visitors to read and sign this promise: I,, promise to (Name) 1. help keep the parks clean 2. respect that parks are homes for plants and animals 3. be kind to other park visitors 4. obey all park signs and rules 5. have a great time in BC Parks! Signed Date 3

Every year BC Parks works with an outstanding network of volunteers who provide a broad range of valuable services - from trail maintenance to ecological monitoring, from Campground Host to Ecological Reserve Warden. Hundreds of individual volunteers and groups spend countless hours contributing to our world-class park system. By sharing their passion for parks with others, these dedicated individuals make a tangible difference in their communities. Learn more about our great volunteers - who they are, what they do and how you can become one - on the BC Parks Volunteer Community webpage.

Canada s Parks Day A day of celebration, park appreciation, and family fun is in store for visitors to BC Parks every year on the third Saturday of July. Canada's Parks Day celebrates the natural beauty of parks and reminds us of the important role parks play in conserving healthy and resilient ecosystems, and contributing to human health and well-being. Biodiversity walks, themed cultural hikes, kid's nature games, marine exploration, scavenger hunts and of course, a visit from our favourite park employee Jerry the Moose will be taking place across BC. This is a perfect time to get outside and spend a day immersed in nature, exploring and enjoying the wonder of BC Parks. For provincial park events visit or ask a local park operator.
