Valleys High School "Learning Today for Tomorrow" Principal's Highlights Valleys High School offers a full range of challenging academic and extra-curricular learning experiences. NV staff and students continue to strive for excellence. Valleys High School graduation rate continued to increase for the fifth consecutive year to a current rate of 72%. 29% of the 2013 graduating cohort earned honors and advanced diplomas which are up 7% from NV Mock Trial Team placed third at the State of Nevada Mock Trial Competition. A senior student earned the award for Best Counsel. NV Students earned 2 Gold, 9 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals at the state FCCLA-Culinary, Knife Skills, Creative Garnish competition. Adrienne Barry, a history teacher at NV, was elected to represent Nevada at National History Day in Washington, D.C.. Boys Varsity Basketball qualified for regionals,varsity Wrestling placed 15th in the state, and three boys qualified for the state ski race. Varsity Cheer Leading squad qualified for the USA High School National Spirit Competition in April. ROTC Color Guard received first place at Reed High School Drill Meet where 13 schools competed. Over 10 NV Orchestra students participated in Senior Honor Orchestra, Festival Orchestra, and Nevada All State Orchestra. School Communication Efforts Goals and Objectives Goal 1 NV will increase proficiency in ELA and Math, with emphasis on IEP and LEP students, High School Proficiency Exam results. Objective(s): Increase proficiency for all students in ELA to 93% and Math to 79% by June Increase proficiency for all IEP students in ELA to 70% and in Math to 44% by June Increase proficiency for LEP students in ELA to 85 % and in Math to 71%by June Goal 2 NV will increase graduation rate to a minimum of 76%. Objective(s): Increase NV graduation rate from 73% to 76% by June Goal 3 NV will implement MTSS with fidelity in order to maintain a positive learning environment where all students are successful. Objective(s): Decrease overall major behavior referrals by 5% by June Establish a Response to Intervention Team by June Increase Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic supports by June NV provides a full-time Parent Center where families can access information and services throughout the school day. Our Parent Involvement Facilitator (PIF)provides a multitude of services to our NV community. These services include Spanish interpretation, academic information; training in the use of Infinite Campus, youth counseling referrals, and access to our on-site food pantry. NV is also host to a full time AmeriCorps Volunteer who regularly communicates with students and their families providing not only academic supports but community as well. She also manages approximately 100 students on the PBS Tier 2 intervention, Check-In Check-Out academic support. NV has maintained partnerships with the Children s Cabinet, the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, and our two Partners in Education, Wal-Mart and Bonanza Casino. Website: Page 1 of 6
