Denning, Principal Reno, NV Grade Levels: Ph: , Fax: Website: School Accountability Report For more information visit Mission Statement The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century. Principal's Highlights "Quest for Excellence" drives School Improvement, School Performance, and Family Engagement Plans. Goals include reducing achievement gaps and credit deficiency, and increasing graduation rate. Advanced Placement students took 952 AP exams in 18 different subject areas in May The Global Studies Signature Academy had 63 students enrolled in We will have our first Global Studies graduate in June The Lancer Band represented, Reno, and Nevada in the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA for the second time on January 1, Teachers Farrell,Vaughn and Johanna Sergott earned National Board Certification, bringing our total to 25. Sylvia Scoggin renewed her certification. 's graduation rate for the Class of 2013 was 87%, which is among the highest in the district, and represents an increase compared to 's ROTC Program was named Honor Unit With Distinction by scoring over 98% in the new Accreditation Process. High School earned a 4-Star rating out of a possible 5 stars on both district and state frameworks. The High School Track Teams, both boys and girls, won 2013 Regional Championships in May The boys went on to win the State title. Band Director Rick Moffitt was named one of "2013's Fifty Directors Who Make a Difference" by School Band and Orchestra Magazine. Goals and Objectives Goal 1 Increase the percentage of students earning 11 credits in core classes by the end of 10th grade so that more students will be on track to graduate. Objective(s): By June 2014, the percentage of 9th grade students passing all core classes will increase by 5 percentage points from 69% to 74%; the percentage of 10th grade students passing all core classes in the 10th grade will increase by 6 percentage points from 44% to 50%. Goal 2 Reduce achievement gaps for Hispanic students in terms of NPE pass rates, attendance, and graduation rates. Objective(s): By June 2014, identify 3 root causes and develop 3 action steps to reduce Hispanic students' graduation achievement gap by 2 percentage points to 8%; the gap in their NPE Reading pass rates by 3 percentage points to 13%; and the gap in their NPE Math pass rates by 3 percentage points to 10%. School Communication Efforts counselors provide evening programs such as Freshman Parent Night, College Nights, and Freshman Academy parent outreach in order to engage parents in conversation about their students' progress and to provide information. Eighth Grade Parent Night is held in March and Freshman Orientation in August prior to the opening of school. The Lancerlot newsletter is published 4 times per year on our website and via to inform parents about important dates, events, and accomplishments. The website, along with student-published Excalibur newspaper and Caxton yearbook, provide information about activities, events, and matters important to the school. Teachers communicate student progress through Infinite Campus (IC), and user notices are posted in IC to help families stay informed. The AAAA Boosters Guild remains one of the most active parent groups in WCSD. The AAAA Boosters are responsible for the annual Craft Faire fundraiser and Safe-N-Sober graduation party. Numerous athletic and activity groups have Booster groups that fundraise, chaperone, and provide support to the school, teachers, coaches, and students. Website: Page 1 of 6
