2 Foreword Casuarina Senior College has been a leader and innovator in secondary education since opening in The College continues to strive to provide unique opportunities and a culture of excellence for our students. The competitive landscape of choice for senior secondary students demands that we develop our niche as a distinctive College in the Darwin Region and embrace the vital preconditions of an Independent Public School, including greater autonomy, innovation, flexibility and increased accountability. Continuing to expand curriculum to allow students to commence their senior years in Year Ten. Exploring increased opportunities for all students to achieve dual accreditation of an NTCET with partial tertiary credits. Implementing a new timetable to offer flexibility that caters for the needs of all students and explores innovative delivery to compliment face to face teaching. Our four year plan focuses on enhancing and supporting our College priority areas: Relationships; Teaching, Learning and Assessment; Leadership; Organisational Development, Planning and Procedures; and Reputation. These priorities are the foundation of everything that we do at the College. Building strategic partnerships with Charles Darwin University, Northern Territory Institute of Sport, Peak Sporting Bodies, Industries and Businesses. Over the next four years the College will strive to ensure that all students graduate with their Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) and either an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 70+ and/or a Certificate II, III or IV. On behalf of the Casuarina Senior College community, we would like to present to you the Casuarina Senior College Business Plan. This plan outlines our objectives for the next four years and the strategies with which we will achieve these. Regards, Our plan and vision commits the College to; Expanding our Vocational Education and Training in Schools program to incorporate health related studies and the Maritime Academy. 3 External Review A comprehensive external review of Casuarina Senior College was held in November The review team consisted of four experienced NT Secondary Principals and the Director, Senior Years Curriculum. The review consisted of a series of interviews with many members of the College community, lesson observations, and policy and data interrogations, to look for line of sight and triangulation of educational practice, from the leadership team through to the classroom and student outcomes. The review team commended the College on: the sense of belonging that was evident from students and staff; our efforts to create a physical environment that supports and encourages learning; the strong relationships built between students and teachers; and the effort put in by teachers to engage and challenge students in a safe and supportive environment. The review recommendations include: The College develop a shared vision and align strategic directions that include specific priorities and targets. An explicit improvement agenda that identifies specific targets needs to be developed in consultation with the entire College community. An implementation plan that enables the College to effectively communicate, monitor and evaluate progress towards the targets of the identified College improvement agenda becomes a priority for the College. This plan should be developed in an inclusive and consultative process to determine curriculum pathways and subject offerings to improve outcomes for students. The current leadership structure needs to be realigned to ensure that it supports the improvement agenda and must include strategies that enhance a clear line of communication, responsibility and accountability in order to maximise student learning. Development of a targeted professional development plan, informed by the AITSL standards to build the capacity of College leaders and teachers, to lead curriculum reform and a data driven improvement agenda is required. High expectations should be set for every student s academic performance including ambitious targets for improvement. Implementation Plan The Casuarina Senior College Business Plan builds on the foundations, strategic directions and the many successes of the College outlined in the previous plan. The Business Plan was established in consultation with the College Council, community, staff, students and driven by evidence based decision making, focusing on student performance data and the External Review. The Business Plan commits Casuarina Senior College to five priorities: Relationships Teaching, Learning and Assessment Leadership Development Organisational Development, Planning and Procedures Reputation At the planning and classroom level, Casuarina Senior College staff are committed to employing the principles of Visible Learning. Visible Learning encourages educators to evaluate their own teaching methods to see learning through the eyes of the student and increases student voice in the learning process. Student voice and outcomes are the foundation of everything we do at the College. When implementing new initiatives or updating practices, the first question we ask is how will this enhance student outcomes? The purpose of this Business Plan is to focus first and foremost on enhancing outcomes for students by evaluating the current model of Casuarina Senior College. This plan is an ambitious reform agenda to maintain our high expectations that every student achieves success and Casuarina Senior College continues to be the senior secondary school of choice for the Northern Suburbs community.

We will: - Implement and embed a College wide Visible Learning Approach. - Maintain high expectations of student and staff performance through the use of feedback. - Expand curriculum and VET opportunities. Leadership Development Quality leadership is essential for maintaining high performance and quality in education delivery. We will: - Enhance the development and performance of our leadership through Growth Coaching. - Refine and communicate leadership expectations, roles, responsibilities and structure. - Increase student participation and ownership in decision making. Organisational Development, Planning and Procedures Highly effective Independent Public Schools have clearly understood policies, procedures and governance frameworks. We will: - Implement a timetable and workforce plan for 2017 to provide the differentiated pathways for all students. - Create a culture of trust and high expectations through collaboration with all stakeholders. Reputation Celebrating the successful delivery of our key priority area achievements leads to positive public perception and community confidence in the College. We will: - Continue to develop and market the College brand and achievements. - Innovate to provide pathways and opportunities to enable student success.
