The association is active before the North Carolina Industrial Commission and the General Assembly, and maintains legal counsel and a lobbyist to protect the interests of employers. Many of North Carolina s largest employers belong to our association, along with claims professionals, rehab specialists, TPAs, surveillance professionals, and law firms. 4 About the Speakers Joy Brewer, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, received her law degree from Campbell University. Hayden Burruss, FCAS, MAAA, principal and actuary at HB Actuarial Services, is a graduate of the University of Rochester, New York. Prior to founding his firm in 2000, he was chief actuary at AmCOMP Inc. Don Carter is vice president, human resources at Columbia Forest Products in Greensboro. A graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, he serves as treasurer of the North Carolina Association of Self- Insurers. Julia Dixon is a graduate of Meredith College and the University of North Carolina School of Law. She received an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell in Lynn Fitzpatrick is a graduate of Villanova University and the Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. Kara Glidewell is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University School of Law. Will Gregory, a graduate of Appalachian State University, founded Advantage Surveillance in He is licensed as a private investigator in 22 states. Bruce Hamilton, a partner in Teague Campbell, graduated from Tulane University and the University of Virginia School of Law. Joseph Hamrick is a graduate of Campbell University and the Wake Forest University School of Law. Daniel Hayes graduated from the University of South Carolina Honors College and the University of South Carolina School of Law. Commissioner Tammy Nance is a graduate of Ohio State where she obtained her undergraduate and law degrees. She was appointed to the North Carolina Industrial Commission in June Robert Kaylor, lobbyist for the North Carolina Association of Self-Insurers, is a graduate of East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina School of Law. Sara Schara McAnulty, Ph.D. earned her doctorate from Oklahoma State University. At The Rehab Center in Charlotte, she specializes in evaluating and treating patients with traumatic brain injuries. James Moore, AIC, MBA, ChFC, ARM, founded J&L Risk Management Consultants, Inc. in A former director of risk management for the North Carolina School Boards Association, he is treasurer of the North Carolina Mid State Safety Council. Jay Norris, NCASI president, is manager of claims at Duke Energy Corporation. He supervises Duke Energy s workers compensation program in multiple jurisdictions in the U.S. and Canada, and is responsible for insurance renewals and placements, and for managing Duke s self-insurance and claims management programs. Edward Schenk graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and received his law degree with from Campbell University. Jay West, MD, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship at Duke and his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics.
