1 BGHS ACTIVITY LIST BGHS is pleased to offer a wide variety of clubs and activities for our students. Please contact the sponsor for more information regarding a club. CLUB Academic Decathlon: Academic Decathlon is a club dedicated to preparing for and participating in an annual high school academic competition organized by the non-profit United States Academic Decathlon Association. The competition consists of seven multiple choice tests, two performance events, and an essay. Animal Welfare: Promotes humane treatment of animals through awareness and education. Anime / Manga: Club for students interested in Anime. Art Club: Students promote the arts through public activities, school fundraisers, student exhibitions, art critiques and collaboration with other clubs. BioClub: To inspire knowledge and exploration of biology and related fields. SPONSOR Sue Barsky Richard Gullette Jessica Aguirre David Nye Book Club: Read and discuss books of interest to the club members. Chemo Care Club: Help students learn to fundraise, understand what exactly chemotherapy patients go through, how to create care packages and engage with other people Chess Club: We are committed to creating a highly competitive chess team by using critical thinking skills, communication, life skills, and habits of mind. We are guided by the principals of pursuing Victory with Honor each time we engage in AIA tournament play and practice with each other. While we focus on developing our chess skills and tactics, we will remember to have fun, appreciate the art of chess and respect each other at our individual skill level. We will support each other in developing chess tactics and in meeting eligibility. Sue Barsky Jack Carlson Choir Club: The choir provides performance opportunities for vocal musicians. Creative Writing Club: Creative Writing Club is a forum where students share their writings, conduct write-in and fund raise with writing in mind. The mission of the club is to produce a literary magazine showcasing student writing. 2 DECA: DECA is a national Career & Technical Student organization (CTSO) focused on developing emerging leaders with professional development opportunities. The BGHS DECA Chapter runs the student based enterprise called the Dog Shack (student store), develops community service campaigns, participates in leadership conference both locally and regionally, travels to competitive events where student solve real-world business problems and supports sports & entertainment events at BGHS (MDA Basketball Fundraiser and BGHS Car Show). Debra Kidwell Fashion / FIDM: Fashion club is comprised of a great group of fashionable students who spend their time in the club learning about the design and business aspects of the fashion industry. They trend spot, plan events, host guest speakers, and get involved in their community through service projects. FCA - Fellowship of Christian Athletes: This club represents a group of Christian students and athletes wanting to come together to share their faith and grow together and spread the word of God on their school campus. We meet every Wednesday morning at 7:15 in Room 428 Feminist Club: Educate and empower students to support intersectional feminism in all areas of life, with feminism defined as the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes Film Club: Created to study film and art in film. Will also create video shorts. French Club: We meet Tuesday mornings and do culturally relevant activities. You do not have to speak French or be in French class to participate. F.B.L.A Future Business Leaders of America: FBLA does Graphic Design and will do any kind of design a teacher or the community may need. Games Club: This club offers students a chance to play board and card games to relieve stress, and at the same time use the analytical and creative sides of their brains. GSA - Gay / Straight Alliance: This club is to inspire unity, trust, positive interaction with various students and the community, and serve as a link between students, faculty and administration. Girl's Health Club: Promoting healthy nutrition, healthy relationships, selfconfidence and self-esteem, and inner beauty. To help girls with conflicts such as exercising and dieting and to serve as mentors to other girls. Green Club: The goal of this club is to improve the awareness and condition of our campus and planet. We recycle on campus and have beautification projects off campus. 3 H.O.P.E. Anti-Bullying Club: This club promotes non-tolerance for bullying. IB - International Baccalaureate: The IB Club supports the extra-curricular activities of International Baccalaureate students. Meetings are held on an as needed basis. IB - Mentoring Club: The IB Mentoring Club offers peer to peer tutoring in all academic areas as well as mentoring students in other areas like time management and organizational skills. The tutoring and mentoring is provided by the students in the IB program. Interact / Keyclub: Interact Club is a service organization affiliated with Rotary International. Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Meetings are held the first and third Mondays of each month from 7:15-7:35 AM in the Resource Center. Kollab: Child abuse prevention club bringing awareness, aid, and education to people about child abuse. Vicky Munoz Law Club: Marching Band: The Band club provides entertainment and spirit opportunities for the musicians and school. Media Club: Work on media productions for the community Mu Alpha Theta New Age Club: To present new age ideas in a way that will allow members to learn and make their own judgement about new age beliefs and give them a chance to enlighten themselves. Empower members to achieve their personal goals and become extraordinary. New Global Citizens: To educate, equip, and mobilize young people to help solve the greatest challenges faced by communities around the world. Each school year, NGC Teams will support grassroots Global Projects in communities around the world through 3 main objectives: Community education, advocacy, and fundraising. 4 NHS-National Honor Society: Academic program Meghan Hauter Open Hearts: This club provides a safe place for students to express their feelings of loss due to the absence of their parents due to death, divorce, military assignment, incarceration, or other circumstances. Marci Morrison Paranormal Club: Speech and Debate: This club competes state wide against other high school teams and develops excellent interpretation and thinking skills. Categories include impromptu speaking, oral interpretation, oratory and various debate styles. Relay for Life: Hype Squad / BGHS PRIDE: Provides support at athletic and school events. Student Government: Student Government works to bring spirit and activities to the school. They are in charge of organizing and putting together homecoming week which includes floats, parade, assembly, tailgate, royalty and dance. STUGO is a leadership class/club in which students lead a group of their peers to organize events on campus. These events include but are not limited to Dodgeball, Dances, Powder Puff, Assemblies, Fundraisers, and Prom. This organization collaborates to bring awareness of the art of theatre in our community while also working toward other community service events to help others. The students in the BGHS drama club are students working toward becoming members of Thespian Troupe #4065. Skills USA (Web Design): Skills USA develops and maintains websites for teachers or the community. Yearbook: Yearbook is a club which works on the annual called El Oro. Students work on taking photos, writing captions and stories for the school yearbook. Students attend games, events and interview as many students and staff on campus.
