1 Wednesday, September 16, 2015 Board of Directors Meeting - 7:00 p.m. Hampden Academy The Regional School Unit No. 22 Board of Directors met at Hampden Academy on Wednesday, September 16, Board Chair Niles Parker called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Directors present were: John Coggeshall, Scott Cuddy, Mariah Dennis, Noah Gardner, Martha Harris, Karen Hawkes, Anthony Liberatore, DMD, Elisabeth McLain, Heath Miller, Cindy Mitchell, Niles Parker, Jason F. Sharpe and Amanda Sidell. Rob Frank excused. Eric Carter arrived at 7:30 p.m. II. Approval of Minutes of Regular Meeting of September 2, 2015 Coggeshall moved, Mitchell seconded, and the Board voted favorably to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of September 2, Abstain: Heath Miller III. Adjustment to Agenda Additional nominations will be added under Article VI-B. IV. Persons Desiring to Address the Board None. V. Board Chair Chair Niles Parker reminded the Board that the dates for the Maine School Management Association s Fall Conference are October 22 and 23. VI. Personnel A. Resignations None. B. Superintendent of Schools A. Reading of Essential Behaviors and Outcomes Proclamation Board member Jason F. Sharpe read the Essential Behaviors and Outcomes Proclamation. B. Discuss Annual Board Retreat

4 Board members will be coordinating/facilitating the next Board retreat. If interested, Board members are asked to contact the Superintendent of Schools and Chair Parker to further review and discuss Board retreat agenda topics. C. Overview of Enhanced Website Technology Information Systems Administrator Jeff Woodside provided an update on the RSU #22 enhanced website. The Board was satisfied with the new format and excited to see the end product. D. Heath Miller reviewed the September 14 Athletic Committee meeting notes, especially highlighting: Continued review of the evaluation process for coaches Recommendation to reinstate funds for Reeds Brook Middle School B sport teams defunded for an estimated $15,000, to be included in the school district budget Potential of combining with Brewer High School for a JV Hockey Team, for the season only. E. Monthly Overview Superintendent Lyons presented current topics, including: Update on the RSU #22 school based health center His attendance at the New England Association of School Superintendents Fall Conference His meeting with Hampden Town Manager Angus Jennings Audit of the Hampden Academy construction project, Monday, September 28. F. Student Representative Student Board Representatives Mariah Dennis and Noah Gardner reviewed various Hampden Academy activities and events. G. Assistant Superintendent s Update Assistant Superintendent Genest reviewed school business matters, and especially highlighted the possibility of a collaboration with Penobscot Job Corps to formulate a pool of prospective candidates to substitute for district custodians. VIII. Questions of Board Members

5 Cindy Mitchell spoke about price structure for students meals. She requested a presentation from Nutrition Director Chris Greenier on whether prices are supressing participation. Scott Cuddy asked if there was a way to lower athletic participation fees, and also asked about installing 15 Miles Per Hour speed limit signs on Route 1A in Winterport in the vacinity of the Leroy H. Smith Elementary School. Superintendent Lyons will follow up with Winterport Town Manager, Phil Pitula. IX. Old Business A. Overview of Standardized Assessment Results Curriculum Director Mary Giard and District Principals provided an extensive overview of standardized assessment results. Considerable discussion followed. X. Communication and Correspondence A. Set Meeting Dates Policy Committee Meeting, September 28, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Hampden Academy Athletic Committee Meeting, November 4, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Hampden Academy Education Committee Meetings, October 14 and 28, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. prior to the regular Board of Directors Meetings at Hampden Academy XI. Executive Session to Discuss Negotiations with EA22 Education Association, According to 1 M.R.S.A. 405(6)(D) At 9:06 p.m. Liberatore moved, Carter seconded, and the Board voted unanimously to enter Executive Session to discuss negotiations with EA22 Education Association, according to 1 M.R.S.A. 405(6)(D). The Board entered back into regular session at 9:25 p.m. XII. Other Business A. To see what action, if any, the Board wishes to take on business required by items that are part of this agenda. None. XIII. Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
