1 American College of Veterinary Pathologists 2012 Salary Survey In 2012, the American College of Veterinary Pathologists asked more than 1,600 of its members (Diplomates) to respond to a survey on 2012 salary and related information. 8 SECTORS OF WORK FOR U.S. DIPLOMATES Sectors of Work Most U.S. Diplomates work in either academia or industry, while the remaining 28 percent work in some form of government or private employment. Academia 38% Industry 34% Private Lab 15% State Lab 4% Fed Gov t Research 3% Consultant 3% Fed & State Regulatory 2% Military 1% Industry Sectors Of those U.S. Diplomates who indicated they worked in industry, 64 percent of these work in pharmaceutical companies, 27 percent in contract research organizations, and the remaining 8 percent as consultants, or in chemical, agricultural, or consumer products industries. 9 U.S. NUMBER OF STAFF MANAGED Staff Managerial Duties Almost half (46 percent) full-time U.S. Diplomates do not manage any staff. The chart below illustrates that the 54 percent of Diplomates who do have managerial duties and oversee staff from 1 to over 120.
