Research shows that through play children learn how to plan and solve problems and that free play may actually be healthier for children than structured activities. Play stimulates high levels of enjoyment and motivation, which empowers the child (and adult). Play allows children to experiment with ideas, language, rules and moral concepts. Play provides the flexibility for children to experiment, grow and discover, without the pressure of failure or evaluation Children's work is play. Benefits of play Play can help keep children healthy and active Play can inspire children to think differently Play can provide opportunity to take risks Playing is fun, it is how children enjoy themselves, each other and their families Play can reduce stress Play burns off more calories than a structured activity Basic skills can be learnt through play Playing is FUN 12 3
