2 The SMART equipment and software in this classroom provide instructors powerful and efficient ways to communicate with their students. These rooms allow you to project DVD videos, PC images and document camera images onto the SMART board or projector screen. Throughout this guide you will learn the features of SMART equipment and how to troubleshoot any problems. The SMART Podium controls what is projected onto the SMART board or projector screen. The four main components of the podium are the SMART monitor, PC, DVD/VHS player and document camera. You control which component is active by using the Crestron control unit. Each component has a corresponding button on the unit. This is also where you power on the system and adjust volume. Note: If the room is equipped with a SMART board, you may also use this as a secondary screen. Simply press the power button on the SMART board. This will display on the SMART board whatever content you have selected at the SMART podium. JLR - Revised 9/2013 P. 2

3 Using the PC 1. Power on the system by pressing the Power on button on the control unit. Turn on the PC with the power button on the front of the tower which is located in the desk. 2. Press the PC button on the control unit to show the PC s image on the projector screen (the keyboard and mouse are stored under the SMART monitor) and power on the SMART monitor. 3. If showing a video, you can adjust the volume by the volume knob on the control unit. There is also a USB hub on top of the podium. (note: you may need to continually turn the volume knob to the right as full red bars don t indicate full volume.) JLR - Revised 9/2013 P. 3

4 Using a Laptop 1. The Smart podium also offers you the ability to use a laptop. To begin, connect the VGA cable on the SMART podium to it s corresponding jack on your laptop. Next, power on the system by pressing the Power on button on the control unit. Then press the laptop input button on the control unit. If you want audio from the laptop, make sure the headphone jack connected to the VGA cord is plugged into the headphone port on your laptop. You can control the volume with the knob on the control unit. (note: you may need to continually turn the volume knob to the right as full red bars don t indicate full volume.) 5 Note: If your laptop s image isn t displayed through the projector, you may have to change the video output. To do this press the Fn (function) key and F8 on your laptop. Press F8 until the Duplicate image is selected. (note: depending on the brand and model of your laptop, this screen may vary). JLR - Revised 9/2013 P. 5

6 Using the DVD/VHS Player 1. Power on the system by pressing the Power on button on the control unit. Make sure the DVD button is highlighted (even if you are using a VHS). Remember, You can adjust the audio with the volume knob on the control panel. 2. Press the power button on the DVD/VCR player. Next select DVD or VCR, depending on which you will be using (this can also be done using the remote). Player controls are found on the front of the player and on the remote control. 7 Using the Document Camera 1. Power on the system by pressing the Power on button on the control unit. Make sure that Doc-Cam is selected on the control unit. The document camera is stored in the cabinet on the right side of the podium. 2. Next, press the power button on the document camera. Make sure that the doc-cam output is selected. This will send an image of anything you place under the lens to the projector. JLR - Revised 9/2013 P. 7

8 3. When displaying objects under the doc-cam, you may need more light. There is a small switch on the front of the doc-cam that will activate a light. You can also adjust the doc cam s position with it s extendible arm. 4. To zoom the camera, twist the end of the camera head forward or backward. To focus the image, press the AF button on the end of the camera head. JLR - Revised 9/2013 P. 8

9 1. If your room has one installed, you have the ability to annotate on the SMART board and monitor. First, launch the SMART ink software (click the start button and type ink in the search box). The computer automatically populates the results. Click on the SMART Ink button. This launches the program in the background. Note: Remember to power on the SMART board. 2. You can now annotate on any program that you have open, even the desktop. To write on the SMART board, simply pick up one of the pens and begin writing. To write on the SMART monitor, press the desired color and use the pen to annotate on the screen. To erase, use the eraser on the SMART board, or press the eraser button on monitor.
