Organized strategy for Physician Organization and hospital based residency program to meet needs of the new academic enterprise. Led financial turn around in 2000 to improve a $20 million operating deficit to a $30 million profit with continued financial improvement since then. Developed strategic plan with Medical Staff Leadership to improve U. S. News recognition from seven services to ten services in Reorganized hospital infrastructure to facilitate focus on patient care quality and outcome, satisfaction, and patient safety showing continued improvement in all benchmarked areas. Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Houston, TX Chief Executive Officer, Memorial Hospital Southwest ( ) Chief Executive Officer, Memorial Hermann Hospital ( ) Chief Operating Officer, Hermann Hospital (pre-merger with the Memorial System) ( ) Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Hospital Southwest, a 600-bed acute care hospital located in southwest Houston; the flagship hospital for the Memorial Healthcare System. Chief Executive Officer of Hermann Hospital, a 624-bed tertiary care hospital in the Texas Medical Center, affiliated with the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Chief Operating Officer of Hermann Hospital, responsible for hospital operations and ambulatory services, including Human Resources, Information Systems, and Construction and Engineering (3,500 FTE s, $400 million expense budget). Accomplishments: Managed the integration of the Hermann Hospital into the Memorial System in an eight-month period. Reorganized the Hermann to realign with corporate services and continue to provide full services during the integration process. Reduced hospital operations budget by 19% ($60 million) over a 30-month period by re-engineering patient care delivery, reorganizing utilization management, and outsourcing support services departments. Implemented programs to improve customer satisfaction (employee, physician, and patient). Developed physician incentive plan for University of Texas departments. University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Vice President, Clinical Services ( ) The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is a University Hospital system with a total of 900 tertiary care beds.
3 Responsible for the operations of all inpatient clinical services in the medical-surgical facilities of the UPMC system (Presbyterian and Montefiore University Hospitals). Primary areas of responsibility included: Nursing Services, Pathology Labs, Radiology, Pharmacy, Dietary and Housekeeping (4,000 FTE s). Accomplishments: Restructured nursing services to reduce labor budget by $6.8 million. Implemented a flexible budgeting system for inpatient services to respond to the impact of managed care in a timely manner. Hermann Hospital, Houston, Texas Vice President Operations ( ) Vice President Nursing ( ) Director Maternal Child Services ( ) Provided Health Care Management education for administrators of Malaysian hospitals. Organized and presented a Malaysian National Health Care Seminar (May, 1990, Kuala Lumpur).
