The Educatin and Training Calendar is develped in cnsultatin with ACS members and ther key stakehlders t ensure that the educatinal needs f the members and the wider industry are met. Read thrugh this Student Handbk, if yu have any questins talk with yur trainer r Learning Centre staff. TRAINING POLICIES EXPLAINED ACCESS AND EQUITY ACS ensures access and equity fr all students. ACS Access and Equity prvisin includes the prhibitin f any discriminatin n the basis f:- Race, clur, descent r natinal r ethnic rigin respnsibilities (under the Racial Discriminatin Act 1975) Sex, marital status r pregnancy (under the Sex Discriminatin Act 1984) Disabilities (under the Disability Discriminatin Act 1992) Aged (under the Age Discriminatin Act 2004) If yu have any enquires, cmments r issues relating t access and equity talk with yur trainer r the Learning Centre staff. CERTIFICATES/STATEMENTS OF ATTAINMENT On the successful cmpletin f an accredited curse r qualificatin yu will be issued with a Certificate, utlining the unit(s) f cmpetencies achieved. On cmpletin f a nn-accredited curse yu will receive a Statement f Attendance. This certificate dcuments the prfessinal develpment hurs t assist thse students meet with registratin and ther standards fr prfessinal develpment. Fr all accredited shrt curses and Skill Sets r where yu nly partially cmplete the requirements f a qualificatin yu will be issued with a Statement f Attainment fr the unit(s) f cmpetency which yu successfully cmplete. It is ACS plicy that yu receive yur certificates and statements f attainment within 30 days f successfully cmpleting and submitting all curse assessments. T ensure yu receive yur certificate in a timely manner, please submit all yur assessment tasks t yur trainer within fur weeks f attending the face t face cmpnent f yur curse r as directed by yur trainer. 6 EVALUATION ACS is cmmitted t the cntinuus imprvement f ur training and assessment services, client services and management systems. ACS Learning Centre values yur feedback and strngly encurages yu t prvide ACS Learning Centre with any feedback, either psitive r negative. The feedback prvided will be used as part f ur review prcesses t cntinuusly imprve ur training services. It imprves the curses fr future students. We prvide all students with the pprtunity t participate in an nline Learner Satisfactin Survey, s make sure yu prvide yur persnal wrk r hme s that we can seek yur feedback. We are als requires t seek feedback frm yur emplyer. After yur curse, yu will be sent an t frward t yur direct manager. All feedback cllected is annymus. GRIEVANCES AND COMPLAINTS ACS has prcesses in place fr dealing with student cmplaints. It is imprtant that yu tell yur trainer r Learning Centre staff if yu have any grievances r cmplaints. A full cpy f ur Cmplaints Plicy is available n ur website. If, after fllwing ACS Cmplaints Plicy yu are nt satisfied, r if yur believe that the RTO is breaching r has breached its legal requirements, yu have the right t cntact the ASQA inf line n r t submit a cmplaint t ASQA by cmpleting the frm; Cmplaint abut a training rganisatin perating under ASQA s jurisdictin frm n the ASQA web site: BULLYING AND HARASSMENT ACS cmplies with Australian and NSW laws t ensure that we prvide a training envirnment that is free frm all frms f harassment and discriminatin (including victimisatin and bullying) s that all trainers and students feel valued, respected and are treated fairly. 7 INDUSTRY CONSULTATION ACS Learning Centre is cmmitted t cnsulting with industry t ensure relevance in the training and prfessinal develpment that we ffer. If yu have any suggestins regarding curses t be cnducted at ACS please discuss with yur trainer r Learning Centre staff. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ACS dcuments may nly be used fr the purpse f cmpleting yur training r assessment fr ACS and fr n ther purpse. PRIVACY Persnal Infrmatin cllected as part f yur interactin with ACS is managed in accrdance with ur Privacy Plicy Persnal infrmatin relating t staff and students gained during the curse f wrk must remain cnfidential, except: when exempt by law as in the instance f a criminal act r when the safety f thers is endangered; when infrmatin needs t be discussed with the Learning Centre Manager; and fr audit purpses. A full cpy f ur Privacy Plicy is available n ur website: COURSE FEES AND REFUNDS COURSE FEES All curse fees are advertised in the curse marketing material and n the ACS website. Unless stated therwise, fees cver the training, all curse materials and are inclusive f GST (where applicable). PAYMENT TERMS Full payment must be received prir t the cmmencement f the curse. Payment can be made by credit card n applicatin r where an invice is requested, payment terms strictly 14 days. Fr qualificatins and when fees in excess f $1000, these may be paid in installments. MEMBER RATES Apply t the fllwing: ACS members ACS Crprate Assciates Industry Advice Scheme subscribers CONFIRMATION OF ENROLMENT Yu will be sent a cnfirmatin via the prvided n the registratin frm tw weeks prir t the cmmencement f the curse. It will prvide details f the venue, times and any ther requirements. If cnfirmatin is nt received seven days prir t the cmmencement f the curse, cntact ACS. 8 REFUNDS ACS events and curses are cnducted subject t sufficient registratins. Curse viability is assessed tw weeks prir t the cmmencement f the curse when a decisin will be made t cnfirm r cancel. If a curse is cancelled, yu r yur rganisatin will receive a full refund. N refunds r transfers will be cnsidered fr failure t attend. WITHDRAWAL If yu withdraw frm a curse within 14 days r less prir t the cmmencement date f the curse n refund will be payable. If yu withdraw frm a curse 15 days r mre prir t the cmmencement f the curse, and ntificatin is received in writing, a refund will be prvided less a $55 administratin fee per persn. TRANSFER In sme circumstances yu can transfer t anther ACS curse but this is at the discretin f ACS based n a written request at least 15 days prir t cmmencement f the curse yu are enrlled in. SUBSTITUTION If yu are unable t attend, a substitute is welcme. ACS must be advised in writing prir t the cmmencement f the curse. REISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES ACS charges a fee f $50 fr the reissuance f certificates. RECORD KEEPING ACS supprts yur right t have timely access t current and accurate recrds f yur participatin and prgress. During a curse yu may cntact either yur trainer r the Learning Centre t discuss yur prgress r t request access t yur recrds. STUDENT SUPPORT ACS Learning Centre is cmmitted t prviding the supprt necessary fr yu t succeed in the curse r qualificatin yu are undertaking. If yu have r are experiencing any issues that are having an impact n yur learning, e.g. physical, mental health issues, language, literacy r numeracy issues, r special needs, please discuss this with yur trainer r cntact Learning Centre staff. ACS applies the principle f reasnable adjustment fr ur assessment prcesses. This means that adjustments that can be made t the way in which evidence abut perfrmance and cmpetence can be cllected. Fr example, yu may be granted extra time t cmplete assessment tasks r be ffered additinal assistance. Additinal student supprt may invlve referral t an external surce r request fr specialist resurces. This may incur additinal fees. 9 RECOGNITION OF QUALIFICATIONS AND STATEMENTS OF ATTAINMENT ISSUED BY OTHER RTOS ACS cmplies with Standards fr Registered Training Organisatins 2015 fr the recgnitin f qualificatins and statements f attainment issued by ther RTOs. If yu have cmpleted any relevant units f cmpetency r qualificatins with anther RTO cntact yur trainer r Learning Centre staff (see RPL, RCC and Credit Transfer Prcess in this Handbk). WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY We cnduct training/assessment in a manner which supprts the health, safety and welfare fr all cncerned. If yu identify a hazard r ptential hazard in the learning envirnment it is yur respnsibility t reprt this t yur trainer r Learning Centre staff. If yu are invlved in an incident whilst participating in an ACS curse yu must cmplete an incident frm and reprt it t Learning Centre staff as clse as pssible t the time f the incident. Staff will prvide yu with the ACS Incident Frm fr cmpletin. Fire safety - Learning Centre staff r Onsite staff will infrm yu f the prcedure t fllw in the event f a fire alarm. ABOUT YOUR ASSESSMENT ASSESSMENT PRINCIPLES All assessment prcesses and tasks yu are required t cmplete as part f yur curse must cmply with the fur principles f assessment t ensure quality utcmes. Assessments shuld be fair, flexible, valid and reliable. Assessment decisins will be based n the rules f evidence t ensure the cllectin f evidence is valid, sufficient, authentic and current. ASSESSMENT METHODS Assessment methds will vary depending upn the curse r qualificatin yu are undertaking. These methds will be explained t yu at the cmmencement f the curse. Fr example t demnstrate cmpetence fr a unit f cmpetency r a skill set yu may be asked t: Participatin in classrm activities Give an ral presentatin Cmplete written exercises Cmplete a wrkplace prject Keep a wrkplace jurnal Perfrm a simulated assessment task Perfrm a wrkplace assessment task Cllect supplementary wrkplace evidence eg a reprt frm yur manager r supervisr Yu will be deemed cmpetent when all utcmes r cmpetency elements are successfully cmpleted within a mdule r unit f cmpetency. 10 If yu are absent fr a sessin r an assessment, it is yur respnsibility t ensure that yu receive the required infrmatin and that yu make arrangements with the trainer/ assessr t cmplete the assessment. WORKPLACE ASSESSMENTS Sme assessments are undertaken in the wrkplace. This may invlve bservatin f yur wrk practice r btaining a reprt frm yur supervisr r manager. All evidence must be clearly identified with the wrkplace assessr, manager r supervisr s name, designatin and cntact details. These may be randmly audited fr verificatin and authenticity. Fr sme wrkplace assessments, participants must nminate a Wrkplace Assessr. ACS will cntact the Wrkplace Assessr t prvide infrmatin regarding the wrkplace assessments. Alternative arrangements may be negtiated fr facilities/rganisatins where there is nt a suitably qualified Wrkplace Assessr. SUBMISSION OF ASSESSMENT TASKS It is yur respnsibility t ensure assessments are handed in n time. When yu submit an assessment task t yur assessr r the Learning Centre, make sure yu cmplete the relevant Assessment Cver Sheet. When handing in an assessment, it is yur respnsibility t make sure yu keep a cpy in case the riginal is lst r damaged. ACS des nt accept respnsibility fr assessment items that are lst in the mail. It is yur respnsibility t print yur assessment item prir t submissin. ACS is nt respnsible fr printing assessment items. ed assessment items will nt be accepted. EXTENSIONS Requests fr extensins shuld be discussed with yur trainer. Requests shuld preferably be made and cnfirmed in writing, an will suffice. RECORDING ASSESSMENT OUTCOMES FOR ASSESSMENT TASKS When yu cmplete an individual assessment task within a unit f cmpetency, yu will have ne f the fllwing results: SATISFACTORY If yu perfrm satisfactrily in a single assessment task fr a unit f cmpetency, the result will be marked as Satisfactry. NOT SATISFACTORY If yu d nt perfrm satisfactrily in a single assessment task fr a unit f cmpetency, the result will be recrded as Nt Satisfactry. RESUBMISSIONS If the utcme fr an assessment item is Nt Satisfactry, yu will be prvided with feedback frm yur trainer and yu may be given an additinal pprtunity fr resubmissin. 11 RECORDING ASSESSMENT OUTCOMES FOR A UNIT OF COMPETENCY When yu have satisfactrily cmpleted all assessment tasks as part f a curse r a unit f cmpetency yu will receive an assessment utcme f either cmpetent r nt yet cmpetent: COMPETENT This means that yu have demnstrated cmpetency in the unit(s) f cmpetency. NOT YET COMPETENT This means that yu have nt yet demnstrated cmpetency in the unit(s) f cmpetency, and further training r reassessment must be undertaken. If yu are assessed as Nt Yet Cmpetent yu will be given additinal pprtunities fr reassessment t demnstrate cmpetency. This may include further training. REASONABLE ADJUSTMENT Yu have the right t ask fr reasnable adjustment t be made t an assessment task if yu cnsider a particular assessment will disadvantage yu prvided it des nt cmprmise the integrity r rigur f the assessment. Examples f reasnable adjustment may include; additinal time, verbal assessment, grup assessment, large print, bilingual assessment. PLAGIARISM It is acceptable fr yu t wrk with ther students t research r t prepare fr writing an assessment task. Hwever each individual must write their wn wrk. All written assessment tasks include an Assessment Cver Sheet that yu are required t sign as a declaratin stating that the wrk being submitted is yur wn wrk. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) ACS recgnises that many experienced wrkers may have gained skills and knwledge n the jb but may nt have a qualificatin t reflect their ability. These skills and knwledge may have been gained thrugh sme ther frm f study, frmal training, self-tuitin, wrk experience r life experience. RPL is an assessment prcess that assesses this nn-frmal and infrmal learning t determine the extent t which an individual has achieved the required learning utcmes and cmpetency utcmes fr a Unit f Cmpetency r qualificatin. This assessment will be based n the principles f assessment. 12 Perfrmance appraisals Duty statements If yu are applying fr RPL yu will be ntified f the utcme in writing nce all evidence has been assessed. Fees may apply fr RPL assessments. CREDIT TRANSFER Credit transfer is the granting f status r credit by an institutin r training rganisatin t students fr equivalent units f cmpetency cmpleted at the same r anther institutin r training rganisatin. ACS cmplies with the requirements f the Standards fr Registered Training Organisatins 2015 fr the recgnitin f qualificatins and statements f attainment issued by ther RTOs. Credit transfer arrangements are utlined t students at the cmmencement f a curse. Sme qualificatins and units f cmpetency may have changed since yu achieved a qualificatin r Statement(s) f Attainment and althugh sme new qualificatins and units f cmpetency will be equivalent r the same, sme may have changed significantly. A cpy f the equivalency f units f cmpetency and qualificatins can be fund at Yu must submit cpies which are certified as true cpies f the riginal. Nn-certified cpies f certificates, qualificatins and Statements f Attainment cannt be accepted as evidence. If yu are applying fr Credit Transfer yu will be ntified f the utcme in writing nce all evidence has been assessed. RECOGNITION OF CURRENT COMPETENCE (RCC) Recgnitin f Current Cmpetence (RCC) is the assessment f a persn's current capacity t perfrm a skill. It applies if yu have previusly successfully cmpleted the requirements fr a unit f cmpetency. Yu may be required t underg a reassessment prcess t ensure that the cmpetence is being maintained. As with Credit Transfer, sme qualificatins and units f cmpetency may have changed since yu achieved a qualificatin r Statement(s) f Attainment and althugh sme new qualificatins and units f cmpetency will be equivalent r the same, sme may have changed significantly. 14 APPEALING AN ASSESSMENT DECISION ACS has a fair and equitable prcess fr dealing with appeals. Yu are entitled t appeal an assessment result r Recgnitin f Prir Learning assessment decisin if yu feel the assessment prcess was unfair. T ldge an appeal against an assessment decisin yu need t submit an appeal in writing, e.g. , t the ACS Learning Centre Manager. If yu feel that yu have nt had a satisfactry utcme f the appeals prcess, yu may put yur cmplaint in writing (see Cmplaints Plicy). In the event that an appeal cannt be reslved internally the matter will be referred t an external mediatr. THE ASSESSMENT APPEAL PROCESS Frmal written ntificatin f appeal is prvided t the trainer/ assessr and/r the Learning Centre Manager ACS may nminate t use an independent external assessr t review the assessment decisin.
