This trip has been reviewed by building administration and meets the expectations for appropriateness of the activity, relationship to the curriculum (for academic trips) and attention to specifics related to itinerary and concern for student safety. Hinsdale Central Exchange to Spain Departure Date: March 25, 2016 Spain Return Date: April 2, 2016 To provide students with a Spanish immersion experience, to improve their communication skills in the target language and to increase student understanding of Spanish culture. 2 April 22, 2015 Dr. Bruce Law, Superintendent District 86 Board of Education 55th and Grant Hinsdale, IL Dear Dr. Law and District 86 Board of Education: The Hinsdale Central World Languages Department proposes a Spanish Exchange with Padre Poveda High School (Guadix, Spain). This includes a group of students to travel to Sevilla, Spain and Guadix, Spain from Friday, March 25 - Sunday, April 2, This is the week of spring break, so the students would miss zero days of school. The students will stay in Seville, Spain with the group for 2 days to better understand one of Spain's most influential cities. Following, the group will travel to Guadix, Spain, where they will stay with a host family throughout the remainder of the trip. Both the American and Spanish students will participate in daily excursions to a variety of interesting sites as well as the school which their host attends. Lastly, later in the year, the Spanish students will travel to Hinsdale Central and spend a week here participating in daily excursions. We believe this trip offers students a unique learning experience that students and families could not easily replicate. A more detailed description of planned activities is attached in the trip itinerary. We feel this venture to Seville and Guadix, Spain will be an excellent vehicle for each student's Spanish communicative abilities and cultural growth. 6 April, 2015 Dear Spanish Students and Parents, During the spring break of 2016, I plan to take a group of students from Hinsdale Central High School on a trip to Seville and Guadix, Spain with ACIS (American Council for International Studies). We tentatively plan to leave Friday, March 25th and return Saturday, April 2"d, Our group is proposing to have a home exchange with Padre Poveda High School in Guadix Spain. Guadix is located in southern Spain, thirty minutes outside of Granada, Spain. The trip starts in Seville, Spain for 2 days during one of its most important and famous weeks: Semana Santa (Holy Week). Then students will travel to Guadix to stay with their host families. During the course of the home stay, students will participate in daily excursions to a variety of places. The students will travel to Granada, where they will visit one of the country's most important monuments, the Alhambra. Other excursions include a guided tour of Guadix, a trip to the Alpujarras (a natural and historical area of the Granada region) and a guided tour of the Sorbas Caves. Lastly, the students will spend a day with their host students at school. I can assure you that the well-being and safety of your student are our top priority. This is a structured, educational experience that allows students to enjoy and develop an authentic understanding of Spain and its people. The host families and students are being chosen carefully as to ensure the best accommodations for the American participants. In my own experience, the exchange experience changed me profoundly and made me truly appreciate the beauty of another culture and its people. I am very excited to be able to continue this tradition with students today.
