1 AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATION TRAINING (AED/Defib) This course is aimed at providing trained responders and healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills required to use an automated external defibrillator. The course is delivered on site at King s Mill Hospital. This course is designed to enable the individual to initiate resuscitation and safely use an automated external defibrillator. The session includes supervised practice and individual competency assessment. The course is aimed at any healthcare professionals providing trained responders with the knowledge and skills required to use an automated external defibrillator safely. 2 Advanced Life Support (ALS) This course is designed to teach the theory and practical skills required to correctly manage cardiopulmonary arrest in adults from the time when arrest seems imminent until the patient is transferred to an intensive care department. The course is aimed at medical, nursing and paramedical personnel who are regularly required to manage adult cardiac arrest. The course is delivered on site at King s Mill Hospital. The course is designed to equip individuals with the ability to: - Identify that a patient is exhibiting the signs and symptoms of a cardiac and/or respiratory arrest Recognise respective cardiac arrhythmias and initiate treatment Demonstrate the ability to initiate effective Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Effectively perform defibrillation of an adult Initiate treatment of patients in an arrest situation as a Team Leader in accordance with the European Resuscitation Council Guidelines This 2-day course includes lectures, skills stations and cardiac arrest scenarios, allowing the candidate to acquire the necessary skills to manage an adult cardiac arrest. On successful completion of this course the candidate will receive an ALS Provider Certificate (Resuscitation Council) valid for 3 years. 3 Advanced Trauma Life Support This is a Royal College of Surgeons of England Course This is a 3 day course which aims to teach trained doctors a systematic approach to the management of Trauma, through highly interactive tutorials, discussions, lectures, skills training and patient management scenario s (Moulage) with an MCQ (to gain the qualification a candidate needs to pass both the moulage and the MCQ). The course is delivered on site at King s Mill Hospital. On successful completion, candidates will receive an ATLS Certificate, which lasts for 4 years. Highly interactive tutorials, discussions, lectures, skills training and patient management scenario s (Moulage), with continual assessment and an MCQ. 4 Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) This is a Royal College of Surgeons of England Course This 3 day course is designed to advance the knowledge and aid the doctor in the care of critically ill surgical patients. It is more beneficial if this course is undertaken during the later half of the ST2 training - about 6 months into training. The course is delivered on site at King s Mill Hospital. This is a course that does not require recertification once successfully completed. On successful completion candidates will receive a CCrISP Certificate. Practical, theoretical, personal skills training and scenarios. 5 European Paediatric Life Support (EPLS) This is a multi-professional course aimed at healthcare professionals whose role involves the acute care of infants and children. Early recognition of the child in respiratory or circulatory failure Development of core skills to detect and provide medical intervention The prevention of respiratory or cardiac arrest Treatment of paediatric trauma The course comprises the manual, lectures, practical skill stations, teaching scenarios and assessments. Healthcare professionals whose role involves the acute care of infants and children. 2 Days 495 per person

6 Immediate Life Support (ILS) This course lasts for a full day and is aimed at healthcare providers and emergency service personnel. The course certificate is valid for one year. Completing this course will enable the individual to: Recognise the sick patient and causes of cardiac arrest Manage a compromised airway Safely use a defibrillator Initiate and manage a cardiac arrest until the arrival of ALS providers There is a pre course manual to assist the learning through lectures and practical skills assessments. This Resuscitation Council course is aimed at healthcare providers and emergency service personnel. One full day. 120 per person

7 Immediate Life Support Recertification (ILS ReCert) This course is aimed at staff that have already successfully completed the ILS course and are required to refresh their knowledge and skills. The individual will be reassessed to gain the ILS certificate for a further year. Lecture and formal practical skills assessment. ILS certificate holders. 3 hours 60 per person

8 Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) This course is open to all health care professionals who have direct involvement with infants/ children. To enable participants to learn or update their knowledge and skills related to Paediatric Life Support. The certificate will be valid for 1 year. The course is delivered on site at King s Mill Hospital. This course is designed to equip individuals with the ability to: Recognise a seriously ill child Demonstrate the ability to recognize and relieve an airway obstruction Demonstrate the ability to initiate effective Basic Life Support Gain knowledge and experience in the insertion of vascular access, drugs and fluid administration during resuscitation Initiate resuscitation of a child until the arrival of advanced help Lectures and skills stations Health care professionals who have direct involvement with infants/children. One full day 120 per person

9 Paediatric Immediate Life Support Recertification (PILS) This course is open to all health care professionals who have already successfully completed the PILS course and are required to refresh their knowledge and skills. The course is delivered on site at King s Mill Hospital. The individual will be reassessed to gain the PILS certificate. Method of delivery Lecture and formal practical skills assessment.
