4 TRAINING CALENDAR: COURSE CONTENT OUTLINES HEALTH & SAFETY COURSES 3-Day First Aid at Work It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers should provide a safe and healthy environment for their employees. If the assessment of First Aid needs highlights the need for qualified First Aider s, then this Level3 qualification will provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel. This comprehensive three-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level. 2-Day First Aid at Work Refresher This 2-day First Aid at Work course is designed for those who currently hold a First Aid at Work qualification and are due to expire. The important thing to remember is that as soon as the certificate expires, the First Aider is no longer considered competent to act as a First Aider in the workplace which may well leave the employer with a shortfall of First Aiders. Therefore, it would be prudent to arrange their requalification before they expire. Paediatric First Aid This course has been developed for those who are working with children and infants. It will be of particular interest to teachers, child minders, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel and anyone else who has a responsibility for their welfare whilst in your care. It is ideal for individuals who are responsible for children and infants, who wish to gain a nationally accredited Level 2 Award. This two-day course satisfies the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and OFSTED. In order to obtain this qualification, you must attend both days and complete the two units of accreditation. 1-Day Emergency First Aid at Work Where an organisation s risk assessment of First Aid needs identifies that there is a requirement for Emergency First Aid at Work practitioners, then these national Awards for Emergency First Aid at Work satisfies the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid - the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). All learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide the organisation with Emergency First Aider s that can provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner. Defibrillator Training NEW!! Heart and circulatory disease claims around 200,000 lives each year. Many could have been saved if a defibrillator was made available. PTO
5 Automated External Defibrillators (AED s) are now becoming more common throughout a range of public and work places. A casualty s survival rate will dramatically increase if an AED is available and if you have appropriately qualified personnel to use it. This very practical course will enable your learners to use the AED competently and with confidence. Not only does this course deal with the use of an AED but it also includes vital training in resuscitation and choking procedures. Marches Training would like to thank the Oswestry Branch of SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome) who have supplied us with the use of our training defibrillator. The cardiac charity SADS UK aims to save lives, providing information, funding research and medical equipment to prevent premature sudden cardiac death. Working in the areas of Research, Prevention and Emergency Care lives have been saved as a direct result of the work of SADS UK. SADS UK highlights the fact that young people and even children can be affected by potentially fatal cardiac conditions. HEALTH & SAFETY COURSES Manual Handling This course provides an ideal approach to safer and more effective manual handling not only meeting HSE recommendations, but also good and safe practices in any situation. Fire Safety Awareness This course is designed for all employees as an introduction to fire awareness. It deals with how fires can occur and what to do in the events of a fire. The qualification provides a foundation for those employees who want to develop their basic fire safety awareness in order to assist their employer by undertaking more specific fire safety roles in the workplace (eg as fire wardens/marshalls/stewards etc). Successful candidates will be awarded a national Level 1 qualification. The course will cover the common causes of fire, the behaviour of fire, legislation and responsibilities, fire prevention, what to do if a fire breaks out, how to use fire extinguishers and emergency evaluation procedures. Fire Safety Principles This course is designed for employees who want to develop their basic fire awareness in order to assist their employer by undertaking more specific fire safety roles in the workplace to manage fire risk (eg as fire wardens/marshalls/stewards etc). Successful candidates will be awarded a national Level 2 qualification. The course will cover the hazards and risks associated with the fire workplace, how fire risk is controlled in the workplace, the role of the nominated fire warden, the principles of fire safety management at work. RAISING AWARENESS AND PROTECTING CHILDREN This awareness session will enable participants to explore issues and deepen understanding in respect of: signs and symptoms of abuse, dealing with child protection disclosure and Shropshire Safeguarding Children s Board (SSCB) procedures. Marches Training/SSCB certificates are awarded after the training which lasts for three years. CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) TRAINING NEW! Aims of the course - The Thinkuknow Introduction course: Provides an overview of CEOP and the Thinkuknow education programme Introduces new technologies and how young people use them Highlights some of the risks associated with these online environments Shows how the free Thinkuknow education resources respond to these risks This free course is run by CEOP-trained Ambassadors (i.e. professionals that have completed our Ambassador training event). On completion of this course, you will be given access to the Thinkuknow presentations and resources. Who should attend? This course is aimed at professionals who work with children and young people, such as: teachers youth workers
6 social workers police officers child protection professionals public protection officers LSCB e-safety leads Course Leader Jo White CEOP Ambassador, The Marches. Also speaking PCSO Dave Bryant West Mercia Police. SHORT COURSES Counselling Skills This course will give you an understanding of what counselling is and isn t. You will explore boundary setting (eg confidentiality) and you will practice and reflect on active listening skills. The course will be experiential and active. Coaching and Mentoring Skills This course looks at the difference between coaching and mentoring. If you are looking to bring out the best in the people around you within your workplace, then this invaluable introduction to coaching and mentoring is perfect for you. Not only is it a great introduction, but also a solid foundation in which to adopt a coaching management style. Making Difficult Conversations Easy Having difficult conversations can be stressful yet it is an inevitable part of effective relationship management. Making Difficult Conversations Easy provides delegates with the simple, effective and robust framework that they need to manage and facilitate a difficult conversation. Stress and Stress Management None of us behaves or performs well when we feel under too much stress so this module looks at different ways of reducing stress. We will explore the nature of conflict and anger and we will move towards a solution focused way of working and problem solving. Discovering your Strengths This course will help you to understand your strengths and build on them, using your skills to create a more harmonious lifestyle around your strengths.
