1 Firmware Installation (Sprinter) This tutorial will demonstrate how to install the required firmware (Sprinter) to your Arduino Mega2560 control board. Should you have any questions, concerns or comments, please contact us at STEP1: Download the Sprinter firmware at: Once downloaded to your computer, you should get a zip file named Sprinter.zip or Sprinter-Master.zip. Extract this zip file to the destination of your choice in your computer.

STEP2: Download the Arduino IDE at: http://arduino.cc/en/main/software There are multiple items to choose from on this page.

You may download either an executable file or a zip file if using a Windows machine.

3 STEP3: Open the Sprinter.pde file using the Arduino IDE. You may also connect your Arduino Mega 2560 to your computer via USB at this point. After downloading and installing the Arduino IDE, open and launch the software. The interface should resemble something like this: Next, click on File, then Open.

4 Find, select and open Sprinter.pde from the Zip file you extracted earlier. In this example, we saved and extracted the Sprinter zip file in our Downloads folder. Double click Sprinter.pde. A new Arduino IDE window should open containing the code for the Sprinter firmware. The window should resemble something like this:

5 STEP4: Upload the Sprinter firmware to your Mega2560 control board ****Please note**** It may be necessary to change and configure the configuration.h file in Sprinter, depending on different factors used for your 3D Printer, such as the thermistor type, RAMPS 1.4 set up, etc. For this example, we will not show you how to configure this file, as it is beyond the scope of this tutorial. Configuring the configuration.h file for Sprinter can be found on our website, under Resources. First, ensure that you have Arduino Mega2560 as your control board, and that you are using the correct COM port to communicate with your Arduino. In the Arduino IDE, select Tools from the menu and hover over Board. Male sure that the Arduino Mega2560 or Mega ADK option is selected. Next, again under Tools, hover over Serial Port and ensure that you are using the correct Port number your Arduino Mega is on. To verify this, you can always use the Device Manager in Windows. To check the Port your Arduino is on using Device Manager (Windows 7), simply follow this step: -On your desktop, go to Start, search for Device Manager on the search box. -Select Device Manager -In Device Manager, click on Ports to open the node if not opened already. Verify that Arduino Mega 2560 is indeed under Port and should also inform you which port it is on. In this example, our Mega 2560 is on COM 8.

6 Once you have verified which COM port your Arduino Mega 2560 is on, you may now select the correct serial port in the Arduino IDE. In the Arduino IDE, select Tools, hover over Serial Port, and select the correct COM port number. Once the correct board type and correct serial port number have been selected, you are now ready to upload or Flash the Arduino Mega 2560 with the Sprinter firmware.

7 In the Arduino IDE, simply click on the Upload button to start the uploading process.

Once uploading starts, keep your eye on the bottom left corner of the IDE screen. You do not need to do anything else at this point, besides to wait for the upload process to finish.

You may notice green or orange lights blinking on the Arduino Mega 2560 board during the uploading process. This is completely normal =) Once the upload process is complete, the message on the bottom left corner of the Arduino IDE screen should change to Done Uploading. If there are no errors during the upload process, the black colored section of the IDE should not state or indicate any errors. It should only read the Binary sketch size, as depicted in the photo below:
