The Czech Republic Secondary schools In Prague there are a lot of schools with different focus; for example economical, technical, industrial, agricultural, horticulture, medical, hotels, artistic, etc. After finishing elementary school, we can choose between three types of schools, secondary schools, grammer schools or vocational schools. However, the majority of young people are reported to secondary school. Because after the completion of this school you have plenty of options either to go to university or straight to work. Public school is usually without entrance exams, apart from grammar schools. Some private secondary schools require entrance exams and this school cost about Kč per year. In the Czech Republic there are about 250 secondary schools. The study lasts four years and it is finished by final exam. written by Lukáš Karásek

3 The Universities in the Czech Republic Universities represent the highest level of the educational system in the Czech Republic. Universites is public, state and private. There are 3 types of university:bachelor's, master's and doctoral. Bachelor's degree program is designed to prepare for a profession or a master study program. The length is 3-4 years. Graduates in the arts receive the academic degree "Bachelor of Arts" (BcA.) and "Bachelor" (Bc) in other areas. The Master's program builds on the Bachelor's degree program. The length is 1-3 years. Where required by the nature of the study program may be accredited Master's degree program following a bachelor's degree program. The length is then 4-6 years. Graduates are awarded the following degrees: "Engineer" (Ing) in economics, technical sciences and technology, agriculture, forestry and military "Engineer Architect" (Ing.arch) in architecture "Doctor of Medicine" (MD) in Medicine "dentist" (MDDr.) in the field of dentistry "Doctor of Veterinary Medicine" (MVDr.) in the field of veterinary medicine "Master of Arts" (MgA.) in the Arts "Master" (MA) in other areas Graduates of master's degree programs, the academic degree "Master" can be done in the same field a rigorous state examination, which includes the defense of the thesis After her execution to the following academic degrees: "Doctor of Laws" (JUDr.) in the field of law "Doctor of Philosophy" (Dr.) in the field of humanities, and social sciences teaching "Doctor of Science" (Dr.) in the field of natural sciences "Doctor of Pharmacy" (PharmDr.) in the field of pharmacy "Licentiate of Theology" (ThLic.) or "Doctor of Theology" ("Fr.) Each semester, year or block consists of a period of instruction and examinations and holiday periods. The academic year lasts 12 calendar months, the Rector.

4 2. Austria SCHOOL SYSTEM IN AUSTRIA Primary school You start with 6 years. Primary School lasts 4 years. In some of them you start learning English in the 4th grade. Then you decide between a grammar school and a middle school. Secondary Modern school It lasts 4 years. There are different types of them: Sport, music and the classic middle school. Then you have to decide if you want to work or if you want to study further. Grammar school Normally it lasts 8 years, but if you want to work or to attend another high school with other directions, it lasts also 4 years. After 4 years of middle/grammar school: Work: You have to fulfil 9 years of compulsory education. Poly (1 year than you can start working) Grammar school (5 years than you start working) School: If you want to have a final exam: You finish grammar school with 8 years. Higher Vocational School: you have to go 5 years there. If you want a general graduation: You go to a Higher Vocational School just for 3 years. (without a final exam) If you decide to work after the middle/grammar school, you make an apprenticeship so you have to work and to visit for a few months per 3 years a professional school. If you get the final exam you can study or you search for a work. SCHOOL LIFE IN OUR BUSINESS SCHOOL The first lesson starts at 08:10 a. m. A lesson lasts 50 minutes. After the first two lessons we have a 5 minute break, after the third lesson we have a 15 minutes break, to eat. And after the 5th lesson we have also a 5 minute break. Normally school ends at 01:35 p. m. But sometimes we have until 04:20 p. m. So we have between the 6th and the 8th lesson a long break. When you start you have to choose one language. You can choose between French or Russian. In our school you have to choose between 2 directions after the 2nd class. One direction is called IB (=International Business), there you learn a 3rd foreign language (Spanish). The other is called Classic, there you specialize on economy. Every year you have the opportunity to attend on an excursion: 1st class 2nd class 3rd class 4th class 5th class Ski-week Summer-sports-week England France/Russia Spain
