1 Online Fundraising Help Centre for the DIY Website The DIY (Do It Yourself) Website is a fundraising website in support of the Canadian Blood Services to raise money and awareness for recruitment of blood and stem cell donors. The DIY Website is a user friendly tool to use alongside your event collateral to promote donation opportunities for event participants. Canadian Blood Services is a registered Canadian charity ( RR0001) and all donations over $20 will receive an official tax receipt. Thank you for taking the time to review this material and by organizing an event to fundraise in support of Canadian Blood Services. 2 FAQ s about the DIY (Do It Yourself) Website in support of the Canadian Blood Services? Is Canadian Blood Services a Registered Charity? Yes, and our Canadian charitable number is RR0001. Can I get a tax receipt for my donation? Yes, a pdf tax receipt will be available to print from the online confirmation page once a donation is complete, and will also be sent to each donor by as an attachment. Any pledges will receive a tax receipt by mail if over $20. Canadian Blood Services has engaged Blackbaud Inc. as its online fundraising software provider. Blackbaud collects and uses the data (demographic information, donation amount, payment information, etc.) that you submit through this Internetbased tool. Blackbaud discloses your name, address, amount donated, along with details of any request that your donation be directed to a specific program, to Canadian Blood Services to facilitate the management of our fundraising campaigns. Blackbaud does not disclose your financial information (e.g. credit card information, bank account information) to Canadian Blood Services or to any other organization. Fundraise online- Integrate your websites so everything has your event information and opportunity to donate and bookmark it in your phone so you can easily pass it on. 2. Set a goal you will be amazed how people love to watch your thermometer go up! 3. Make the first donation yours- support yourself it shows others how committed you are. 4. Promote yourself to everyone use your signature (add a hyperlink) and something like Helping to save lives by supporting Canadian Blood Services ; update your facebook, twitter, dinner conversations

3 5. Who do you ask?- take the time to compile a list of all your existing contacts; work, school, sports teams, neighbours, social groups you will be surprised how long the list already is. 6. Enlist help from others- encourage your close contacts to fundraise and spread the word (and your link) to others on your behalf. 7. Make it easy for people to pledge- give your donors access to your website multiple times or download a pledge sheet if they prefer. 8. Follow Up and Follow through- send reminders and updates on your progress and event information let them know when you reach milestone goals like half way on your thermometer. 9. Always say thank you!- the website sends automated thank you s for donations but make sure you send a personal note! 10. Have Fun and don t be afraid to be creative! Your DIY Fundraising HQ (Head Quarters) If you are a new registrant If you are setting up a new event click the Create an Event button on the left hand side of the DIY Homepage at You will then be prompted to create a username, password and set up a security question. Note this question will be used in the case you forget your password. You will use your newly created username and password to login in to access your online event page. For each event there is only one username/password, with access to editing, reporting, etc for the online event set-up. This person becomes the administrator for the online event.

4 Please fill in your contact information and the site will provide you with your personal page url (your event url). You are able to customize your url it will automatically pull from the first name and last name fields. Use the url to direct people to your online event page. **Important Note: When initially setting up your event you will have to enter personal information (as the main contact). For First & Last Name enter your event name instead, the system will pull these names for the main event page, Ie. If your event is called CBS Charity BBQ put CBS as first name and Charity BBQ as last name. Then whenever the 2 fields together get pulled your event title will appear as CBS Charity BBQ You will receive a confirmation screen that your HQ account has been setup. Please select continue and login.

5 Login to your Fundraising HQ The first step to successful online fundraising is getting acquainted with the online fundraising headquarters account (HQ). To login using your username and password: 1. visit the DIY Homepage at 2. Click on the sign in link on the top right hand side of the screen or on the My login at left hand menu bar. 3. Enter your Username and password 4. If you have forgotten your Username and Password, click on the link just below the next button for assistance or Once you have successfully logged in you will be in your HQ, where you can further edit, review the progress of your online event and send s to your network to encourage donations. It is good to regularly sign in to review the progress of your event. You will notice the top menu bar in gold has different options to edit your event page. The My HQ tab (below) shows the progress of your events fundraising and links to the different edit options on the right. Note: if this is the first time you are logging in to your HQ you can press the Start Here! link for instructions to edit the event page, sending s and getting your stats and reports.

6 The next tab, My Webpage is where you will go to edit your event page. Note: it says personal page but this is your event page so please update with all your event information. There is pre-populated content and Canadian Blood Services pictures that you are welcome to use but not required. You can select to display an image by using the menu under the header text. We have included key messages in the event text section so you have the organization background and you can edit the text to include your personal connection, event information, etc. Once you are happy with your event page click the submit button. You will need to use this button to update any edits you make to the event page.

7 To edit webpage image click the select link and this window will appear. You can browse your computer to upload your own photos they will appear in the image library and you can then select up to 2 photos to use on your event page.

8 Once you have submitted your changes your webpage will be updated and ready for donations. Remember to integrate your online event page with all your other event material so you are continually encouraging people to donate to your online page. Here is an example of what your page will end up looking like (updated with your information and goals) On the tab you can send s to your network directly from the HQ. All you have to do is add the addresses to the recipient boxes. If you would like to include a personalized greeting to each person, in the The Greeting box beside the specific include text that will be inserted at the top of your . This field is used to address the person to whom you are sending the . Greeting examples: John, John Smith, Dear John, Dr. Smith, Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Hello John, Cherished supporter. We have pre-populated the content for you however you can edit and add your personal message in the text. You are able to preview your before sending by clicking the blue preview button at the bottom of this screen followed by the send button when you are happy with your . The nice thing about using this tab is you will be able to track and report on your activity.

9 Use the Reports tab to track your event progress. You can download the report in an excel document to review the data.
