2 2) CHECK OUT THE PSYCHOLOGY COURSES WE HAVE RECENTLY ADDED TO THE FALL SEMESTER SCHEDULE AND/OR HAVE OPEN SEATS! Psych 1000 (General Psychology): Tu/Th 3:30-4:45pm in Anheuser-Busch Auditorium Psych 2330 (Consumer Psychology): MWF 1-1:50AM in 210 Strickland Hall (counts toward Social/Personality distribution OR as Psych Elective) Psych 2410 (Developmental Psychology): Tu/Th 8-9:15AM in 22 Tate Hall (counts toward Developmental distribution OR as Psych Elective) Psych 3370 (The Science of Mindfulness, Writing Intensive, pre- or co-req of Psych 3010): Tu/Th 12:30-1:45pm in 101 McAlester Hall (counts toward Social/Personality distribution OR as Psych Elective) Psych 3420 (Cognitive Development in Childhood): Tu/Th 9:30-10:45am in 113 Arts & Science Building (counts toward Developmental distribution OR as Psych Elective) Psych 3860 (Law & Psychology): Tu/Th 9:30-10:45am in 210 Strickland Hall (counts toward Psych Elective, does not count in a distribution area) Psych 4520 (Behavior Genetics, pre-req of Psych 3010): Tu/Th 12:30-1:45pm in 102 McAlester Hall (counts toward Clinical/Abnormal distribution OR as Psych Elective) Psych 4840 (History of Psychology): MWF 10-10:50AM in 313 Psychology Building ((ounts toward Psych Elective, does not count in a distribution area) 3) HOPING TO TAKE A FALL 2015 PSYCHOLOGY COURSE AND IT IS CLOSED OR YOU ARE UNABLE TO ADD AN OPEN COURSE? Permission number requests can be made via request to Jill Edwards (EdwardsJi@missouri.edu) or in 100 McAlester Hall. You may Jill Edwards at EdwardsJi@missouri.edu or you can go to the Advising Office, located in 100 McAlester Hall ( ) and fill out a permission number request form. Priority will be given to psychology majors, Interdisciplinary Studies majors (with psych as an area) and minors who are graduating in December Please keep in mind that most upper-level and smallercourse permission numbers go to graduating seniors, so please have a back-up plan in place and be ready to request as many courses as possible. If you have questions, please contact Jill Edwards at EdwardsJi@missouri.edu. Note: The following pre-req s will be strictly enforced: Psych 1000 is a required pre-requisite course for all 3000-level psychology courses. Psych 1000 is a recommended pre-requisite for all 2000-level psychology courses, but is not required to enroll in 2000-level psychology courses. Here is the information Jill will need for your permission # request. Please send a separate request for each class. 1) Your Name 2) Your Student ID 3) Your MU address 4) Your Major and Minor (if applicable) 5) Your graduation date 6) Course info -- write like this: "Psych 1000 Lecture 4" A Note About Statistics 1200: There are three different lecture options for this course (Lect 1 is Tu/Th 10-10:50AM, Lect 2 if Tu/Th 12-12:50PM, and Lect 3 is online). Professor Ries says that

3 you can be registered for ANY of the three lecture options, and you can choose to attend ANY of the lectures, regardless of the lecture you have added to your schedule. However, you will also sign up for an on-campus discussion section, and you need to attend the discussion section that you register for once a week. For example, you can be registered for the online lecture, but you can attend lecture 1 if you would like to have an on-campus lecture. For another example, you can be registered for Lecture 2, but you can decide to watch the online lecture instead of attending the on-campus lecture. As long as you are registered for one of the three lecture options AND attend the discussion section you have on your schedule, it s all good! If you have questions, ask your Academic Advisor. 4) HOPING TO TAKE A FALL 2015 NON-PSYCHOLOGY COURSE AND IT IS CLOSED OR YOU ARE UNABLE TO ADD AN OPEN NON-PSYCHOLOGY COURSE? If you are trying to enroll in a non-psychology course and it is closed, or myzou will not allow you to add it, first click on the lecture and scroll down to see if there is any information in the Class Notes that might help you. For example, it might say This Course is Restricted to Comm Majors Only During Early Registration, or Journalism Majors Only or Junior/Senior Standing Only. If a non-psych course you hope to take is closed, you may contact the professor of the course (or the department that offers the course) to inquire about requesting a permission number. You can find professor names by clicking on the lectures on myzou. If no professor is listed, you may contact the department offering the course (e.g., Romance Languages, English) to inquire about requesting permission numbers. When you contact the professor, they may tell you to wait until a certain date to call back, or to contact the department to request a permission number, or give you a permission number to add the course, or put you on a waiting list, or tell you no, or tell you to come to the first day of the course, or come in on a certain day and fill out a request form, etc. Remember to be short-n-sweet in your request! If you do not hear back from the professor, it most likely means that they are not giving any permission numbers, so you just need to keep checking myzou for open seats. Remember that myzou is open 24 hours a day, and you can add a course all the way up to the last day to add a course to your fall schedule (= Monday August 31 st ) is the last day to add a 16-week course to your fall schedule). Last thing: The Psych Advising Office has no power to grant you a permission number into a non-psychology course, so we do not take requests for non-psychology courses. 5) WHAT ABOUT ONLINE COURSES OFFERED VIA MIZZOU ONLINE? Sometimes online courses have spaces reserved for true distance students (i.e., students that cannot take courses on-campus) if the course you are hoping to add looks open, but myzou does not allow you to add and gives you this message: Available seats are reserved and you do not meet the reserve capacity requirements, that is the reason why. You just need to keep trying to add just in case a non-true-distance-seat becomes open. If you have any questions, check with Mizzou Online: , MizzouOnline@missouri.eduAll A&S majors can add the online courses at any time as long as they are OPEN and seats are available for nondistance students. (Mizzou Online holds a certain number of seats in each course for true distance students, e.g., someone living in Chicago.) There is one exception: Psych

4 3010 (Research Methods I, see below for more information). If you are not an A&S major, check with your Academic Advisor to see if you can add online courses on your own. A&S students (including psychology majors) may enroll in a maximum of 7 hours of online coursework each semester. A&S will not approve A&S majors to take more than 7 hours online. If you are not an A&S major, check with your Academic Advisor to see if there are restrictions on the number of online course hours you can take each semester. If the online psychology course is a 9-month course (self-paced), you must enter a Start Date before myzou will allow you to add the course click on the calendar icon to choose a Start Date. If the online psychology course you hope to take is closed, you need to keep checking myzou for open seats. We only restrict ONE of the psychology courses that are offered online: Psych 3010 (Research Methods I). To enroll in Psych 3010, you must EITHER have Stat 1200 completed with a C or better (no C- or below) OR you must be co-enrolled in Stat 1200 (i.e., Stat 1200 must already be on your schedule, then you will be able to enroll in Psych 3010). To enroll in Psych 3010 online only, please Melanie at IrishM@missouri.edu to request a permission #. Other than Psych 3010, our office does NOT give permission # s for the online psychology courses. Please contact Mizzou Online with any questions: , MizzouOnline@missouri.edu 6) DID YOU KNOW? WHEN REGISTERING ON MYZOU, YOU WILL ALWAYS SEE A PERMISSION NUMBER BOX, BUT YOU ONLY NEED TO ENTER IN A PERMISSION NUMBER IF THE COURSE IS CLOSED, OR IF THE CLASS NOTES SAY THAT YOU MUST REQUEST A PERMISSION NUMBER TO ENROLL IN THE COURSE. 7) LOOKING FOR A PART-TIME JOB? NEED SOME INCOME OR NEW EXPERIENCE? THEN PLAN TO ATTEND THE Part-Time Job Fair on Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 2:00-5:00 PM in the MizzouRec Complex (West Entrance) Why go? It s free and where else can you talk with 60+ hiring employers in one setting? You can drop-off resumes, fill out applications, and set up interviews. The first 500 students get free black and gold sunglasses or water bottles. Those Starbuck s Caramel Macchiatos and Shakespeare pizza runs won t pay for themselves. Besides making some income you can get some really great career experience too! How do I get ready? Dress in business casual attire (no ripped jeans, gross sneakers). Bring your Student ID, class schedule and copies of your resume (*if* you have one ready). Review the list of participating employers: You DO NOT need to register in advance - just arrive that day!

5 Questions? Please call or We hope to see you there! 8) WHERE WILL YOU GO? DISCOVER THE ANSWER AT THE MU STUDY ABROAD FAIR! Join us at the MU Study Abroad Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 in Stotler Lounge, Memorial Union.
