1 < Before starting a print > Printing with Roll to Roll To maintain stable print quality, be sure to perform the following before starting a print. Cleaning the cutter blade Soak the cotton swabs or the cloth wrapped around the tweezers, etc. with alcohol solvent and then remove the glue attached to the cutter blade (2 places of top and bottom) with it. CAUTION The cutter unit has internally the cutter blade used to cut the roll paper. Do not touch the cutter blade. There is a risk of injury. Checkpoint Make sure that the glue is not left on the cutter blade. If the gule is left, clean the cutter blade using the alcohol solvents again. When using the cotton swabs, make sure that part of the cotton wound around the swab is not left on the cutter blade. If the cotton is left, clean the cutter blade using the alcohol solvents again. After cleaning, please wipe with a soft and dry cloth. When the roll paper is used with Roll to Cut, the glue of labels might be attached to the cutter blade. Clean the cutter blade each time you finish using one roll paper. For details, refer to FAQ80 "Cleaning the cutter blade". 1

2 Making sure of the inside of waste paper box Before starting a print, make sure that there are no chips in the waste paper box. If there are chips, please discard them. Setting the media type Set the media type to be loaded. Press [Media set] button on the control panel and set the media type. When the media type is changed on the control panel in a state which the roll paper has been set, the set roll paper is ejected. 3 Print with Roll to Roll < What to prepare in advance > Roll paper Paper core for rewinding (The same size as the roll paper used.) Scotch tape(used to attach the roll paper to the paper core.) This is used to attach the roll paper to the paper core for rewinding. You need to attach the roll paper to the paper core during printing. It is recommended to prepare several Scotch tapes which were cut into a length of 5 to 6 cm in advance in order to increase the work efficiency. CAUTION When setting to Roll to Roll, the unwinder unit and rewinder unit always perform repeatedly the rotation and stop during printing. When handling the unit unwinder/ rewinder unit, be careful not to get caught your hand and clothing. Roll paper rewinding operation of the rewinder unit Only when the Print Mode is set to Roll to Roll, the rewinding operation is enabled. When set to Roll to Cut or Cut Paper, the rewinding operation is disabled. Depending on the position of rewinder buffer arm, the rewinder unit starts the rewinding operation. Before starting the print, make sure that the rewinder buffer arm is located at the "A" stop position. When the rewinder unit rotates while attaching to the paper core for rewinding, stop the rewinder unit by moving the rewinder buffer arm to the position of the "A". After finishing the setup of the rewinder unit, the paper roll rewinding of rewinder unit is started by tilting the rewinder buffer arm to position B. Then, the rewinder unit performs repeatedly the rotation and stop depending on the roll paper print speed. When the rewinder buffer arm is in position A Rewinder unit stops. When the arm is between position B and C Rewinder unit rotates. 3

4 1 Turn on the power. Press the power switch for more than 1 second. 2 Make sure that the rewinder buffer arm is located at the stop position shown in the following figure. CAUTION When the rewinder buffer arm is located at position C (horizontal position), DLP1000 starts to rewind the roll paper. Make sure that the rewinder buffer arm is located at the position A (vertical position) before starting the print. 3 Set up the roll holder that the paper core is attached to the rewinder unit. Make sure that the rewinder unit cover is completely closed. The rewinder unit does not work during the cover is open. Closed not completely Closed completely 4

5 4 Prepare the Scotch tape. This is used to attach the printed roll paper to the paper core. It is recommended to prepare several Scotch tapes which were cut into a length of 5 to 6 cm in advance in order to increase the work efficiency. The Scotch tape is used to attach the roll paper to the paper core. 5 Load the roll paper into the unwinder unit. For the details, please see the FAQ32 "Loading the roll paper". 6 Adjust the media guide according to the size of roll paper you want to use. Paper width detection of media guide This printer automatically detects the width of the loaded paper size. Please set the media guide properly while aligning to the width of the paper to be used. 5

6 Media insertion knob Media guide Roller A Roller B 7 Pass through the roll paper from the bottom side of unwinder buffer arm and then insert the roll paper between the roller A and B. 8 To start the paper feeding operation, turn the media insertion knob clockwise while lightly touching the tip of roll paper on the roller at the back of the media insertion slot, and then feed the roll paper. The roll paper is loaded. When turning the media insertion knob, support the roll paper by hand so as not to deviate the roll paper from the roller at the back of the media insertion slot. 6

7 9 Prepare the printing data. Make sure that the rewinder unit is ready to use (Steps 2 to 4 ). Check the following before going to the next step. When performing the printer output, the printed roll paper is ejected to the rewinder unit side sequentially. Attaching the roll paper to the paper core for rewinding is performed in Step 11 As shown in the figure below, the roll paper is rewinded by the rewinder unit. How to rewind to the paper core is described in Steps 10 to 12, but the feeding path of the roll paper should be confirmed in advance. CAUTION Rewinding to the paper core should be performed during printing. Be careful not to get caught your hand and clothing in the rotating part in the roll holder on the rewinder unit, and the paper feeding route of aper. 10 Make sure of the output standby status of the printing data in the server and then perform the print output from the control panel on the printer. On starting the print operation, the printed roll paper is ejected from the media ejection slot. 7

8 Message on the print start In the Roll to Roll, the confirmation message is displayed before starting the print. Make sure that the setup of the rewinder unit is finished and then press the [OK] button.the print is started by pressing the [OK] button. 11 Attach the roll paper to paper core with Scotch tape. Set up the printed roll paper ejected from the media ejection slot as shown in the picture below and attach it to the paper core. Prepare the Scotch tapes which were cut into a length of 5 to 6 cm in advance. (1) The printed roll paper is output from the lower side of Rewinder buffer arm. Rewinder buffer arm Brake roller The printed roll paper is output continuously, put the tip of the roll paper to the paper core by using the Scotch tape as soon as possible. 8

9 (2) Pass through the roll paper over the upper side of break roller. Brake roller Pass through the roll paper over the upper side of break roller. (3) Attach the roll paper to paper core with Scotch tape. Put the tip of the printed roll paper to the paper core using the Scotch tape. 9

10 12 Tilt the rewinder buffer arm. When tilting the rewinder buffer arm to the B to C positions, rewinding of the roll paper is started. 10

11 CAUTION Be careful not to get caught your hand and clothing in the rotating part in the roll holder on the rewinder unit, and the paper feeding route of the printed roll paper. Since tension is not applied to the roll paper immediately after the rewinding of the roll paper is started, the paper float may be caused. To prevent the roll paper float immediately after starting the rewinding, press down the roll paper by hand in order to retain the roll paper between the flanges. Please release your hand when the rewinding of the roll paper becomes stable. 13 When setting to Roll to Roll, the unwinder unit and rewinder unit always perform repeatedly the rotation and stop during printing. 14 When the print of the specified number is finished, the roll paper is cut at the last page. 11
