CAUTION Ordering supplies from other non-recommended sources may result in loss of quality and a decline in ATM performance. 4.2 The Receipt Printer Paper The receipt printer uses single- layer, continuous-roll thermal paper Paper Specifications Paper used in the receipt printer should meet the following minimum specifications: Paper width of 80 mm (3.15 inches) at 25 C (57 F), 50% relative humidity Paper thickness, weight and smoothness is determined by the paper grade being used. Qualified paper grades are listed in Table 4-2. 3 Page 14 of Paper Roll Loading Orientation The paper roll is loaded into the receipt printer with paper feeding from the top of the roll. A paper autoload feature is available in the receipt printer and allows paper to be fed into the printer without opening any of the printer subassembly mechanisms. WARNING You must observe the following precautions when servicing the receipt printer to avoid damaging equipment, severe personal injury, or death: Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can become jammed in the equipment. Use caution to prevent long hair from getting caught in the equipment. Never insert screwdrivers, pens, or other instruments into the module (unless expressly instructed to do so in this document). Severe bodily injury, death from electrical shock, or equipment damage can result Top-of-form (TOF) Marks Orientation Paper rolls should be wound with marks visible on the outer surface of the roll. When the paper is fed into the receipt printer (as viewed from the rear), the marks should be located on the left side and facing upward (Figure 4-1). 4 Page 15 of 20 Characteristics of Top-of-form (TOF) Marks Each sheet form must have one mark to indicate where paper should be cut. Figure 4-1 and Figure 4-2 illustrate mark locations and contain notes about pre-printable areas on the form. The spacing recommendations on delivered forms are as follows: Minimum spacing: 76 mm (3.0 inches) Maximum spacing: Dependent upon paper suppliers printing equipment, but no greater than 216 mm (8.5 inches) Refer to Table 4-3 for characteristics of the mark. Within this time, the thermal paper roll may be exposed to a 55 C, 30% maximum relative humidity environment, and must preserve its physical and optical properties as described in Section 2. Long Term Storage of Unprinted Paper Unprinted paper must be stored in its original packaging. The storage environment must be at or below 30 C (86 F) and 60% relative humidity. Higher temperature and relative humidity will degrade the optical parameters of the thermal paper, and consequently the print quality will also be degraded. Under the above storage conditions, the paper will retain its thermal imaging characteristics for three years minimum. Storage of Printed Receipt Printed paper should be stored in a dark, cool place. Printed surfaces should not face each other. The printed paper should be stored such as to avoid the following environmental contaminants, moisture, alcohols, ammonia and other solvents, lip wax, skin cream and other greases, cellophane tape and other adhesives, polypropylene, polyester, PVC film and other plasticizers. Storage environment for printed paper is at or below 30 C (86 F) and 60% relative humidity. Under this storage environment, the life of printed paper is expected to be six years minimum. As the storage temperature and relative humidity increase, life of printed documents will be shorter. Optionally, the following note may be pre-printed on the form to help guard against environments that would degrade or reduce the storage life: Do not expose printer paper to excessive heat, direct sunlight, or moisture. Select the press size that supports the desired form length. It may be necessary to calculate form lengths for the press size(s) available from your supplier. 2. Select the mark spacing dimension that supports the desired form length. 3. Select the desired vertical offset to the mark position. Zero mm (0 inches) is standard, however the mark can be positioned at any vertical position. 4. Add artwork for pre-printed graphics, logos, etc. This printing can be located on either side of the form. Remember to keep the mark region free of additional artwork and the pre-printed PCS level at 80% or less.
