Electro Medical Equipment and its increasing use on a daily basis has played a key role in the advances that have taken place in Medicine in recent years. We need to remind ourselves that widespread placement and use of Electro Medical equipment that we now take for granted is a relatively recent phenomenon. It is not that long ago that Medical Equipment was only seen in very small clusters and even then only in high acuity areas such as ICU, CCU, Theatre, etc. In the modern hospital every department now has a compliment of sophisticated Medical Devices. This rapid increase in the placement of equipment while very welcome brings with it many challenges and huge responsibility. There is little doubt that effective placement and safe use of Medical Equipment does improve patient care and enhance workflows, and certainly improves efficiencies. There are challenges though and these include effective Care and Maintenance of Equipment, User Training on an ongoing basis to ensure effective and safe use of the equipment and your role in the unlikely event that something unforeseen happens that could or did contribute to a patient injury. Do you know what your responsibilities are? Can you RISK not knowing? In these times of economic restraint, you need to know how to manage your Medical Equipment in the most Economically Advantageous way, while maintaining Quality and avoiding Risk. This broad based seminar organised by TC10 of the ETCI is designed to be a significant step in bridging this gap You need to be there! Who Should Attend? This seminar is has been prepared to appeal to any HealthCare Professionals involved in the use, care and quality maintenance of Electro Medical Equipment or those who are ultimately responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of such equipment in their Department or Institution. The seminar will be of benefit to Hospital Managers, Departmental Managers, Doctors, Nursing Staff, Clinical Engineers, Medical Physicists, Allied health Professionals, CSSD Professionals and Risk Managers to mention but a few. In Ireland the national body responsible for the harmonisation of Standards in this field is the Electro-Technical Council of Ireland (E.T.C.I.). ETCI was formally constituted in 1972 and works in close collaboration with the National Standards Authority of Ireland (N.S.A.I.).
