2 Impact of The Invention of Photography on Art 2 Artworks is a way people in any society express or communicate their culture, beliefs, traditions and values trough visual creation like picture, carving producing and dressing. Artworks in societies around the globe have been part of the peoples lifestyle. Historically, mankind has used art to pass message to people over an issue that the society is facing. They used available materials at the time to paint, carve and draw artworks that influenced the way the society looked at issues facing them. Late in eighteenth century during the industrial revolution a new era of photography was ushered in; photography. In 1839 Louis Daguerre invented photography which enabled artists to create a practical and permanent image. Since then photography has drastically had serious effects on art in the society to date. Technological progress and invention of computers, digital, analog cameras and photography in the second half of nineteenth century brought a different approach in art industry. The camera and computer invention gave art smooth visual characteristics through photographic that were not there before modern cameras. This threatened art and live hood of the artists, sculptors, and painters because photography replaced work their professional work. However, to some artists the invention of photography was an artistic liberation because the modern machines that were produced allowed artists to add features to portraits and pictures that were not in the old approach. It also enhanced the mood, light, color, contrast, brightness in pictures (Arnason & Peter, 2003). During the nineteenth century the invention of cameras and photography changed artworks profession but still photography remained a costly and unwieldy process. It denied some artists the live hood because the exercise was left to the professional only. This led to unemployment among the artist and painters. In addition the government was not receiving any tax from artists because of unemployment. Thought artworks many artist received commissions

Nevertheless, when photography took over as a means of capturing clear, accurate and colored pictures it left many artists without jobs(janson, Anthony & Janson, 2006).. This technology nevertheless never meant photography completely replaced painting and artworks, but somewhat reduced the amount earnings that the artists received from their artworks. It indeed to some artists made them take their profession to higher level. The most important feature of art that photographic provided to artists was that a camera can take only a section of the object you want. For instance, it contained cropping feature which that allowed artists to trim some parts of the picture to produce the required object. Furthermore, photography allowed for a shutter drag approach that made oily and dirty paintings for beautiful and clear pictures. These characteristics greatly stretched dimensions of imagination and created new frontiers in art industry. They inn addition have enabled modern artists to decrease the amount of time taken in the real implementation of artworks to a lowest thus emancipating them to concentrate more on meditation, ingenuity and mounting inventive thoughts, and proper research for artwork. Photography technology has positively transformed and influenced art and a profession. Artists no longer required models to stand for long time to draw their portraits. Instead they take a photo of the model and from it later they produce and alter the portrait that fits their canvas. In addition, with the invention of photography artists were liberated from lack of documentation. Before photography artists had no means of documenting their artworks. The invention of cameras and computer technology it became easy to keep records of all photographic and artworks. Moreover, the invention of photography changed perceptions people had about artists. Artists were perceived as serving some purpose in the society: they were

They never required picture or practical image of anything from the artists, therefore their job changed in the social order. Different discoveries in the photography profession saw the elevation of more sophisticated theory of art in diverse scions. This may be accredited to the fact that, even if artwork primarily dwells on a person s thoughts and creativeness, photography transformed the entire conventional artwork set up. Hence, in early 19 th century a number of issues and factors came up and as a result advanced color and texture were introduced in art, conversely the arrival of the photography that needed minimal materials, used less amount of time and human labor disrupted common art as a profession (Charles, 2000). It also established that a conservative artist used masterly skills of designing portraits where the design was highly tailored in individual form unlike in photography where sole person determines the outcome of the artworks falling short of creativity, imagination and attraction brought about by the surrounding environment. In some other part of the world when photography was invented reactions to the new innovation varied. In some parts of the globe artists were met with wide eyed astonished and enthusiasm. On the extreme part of it others refused to accept photography idea which in turn they resisted the idea and were hostile. Some members in royal families described invention as mortal enemy to the existence of humanity and image of God in mankind. This is because majority of them were making good commission from poor artists who were involved in portrait carving. They saw photography as a means to kill art and painting as profession. After speedy commercialization of photography, some artists were forced to take up photography in place of artwork or in addition to painting (Kleiner, Fred & Christin, 2005). The profession was

The advent of photography had mainly vivid impacts on the living standards of painting industry where artists worked on the extreme of their conventional life. This incorporated the photograph artists, whose livelihoods were cut down considerably, principally following the beginning of the all purpose and inexpensive photography art. Majority abandoned this profession because it required some skills they didn t have, whereas other artists turned to coloring photos. In conclusion Fiero (2006) argues that the discovery of cameras and computers has a positive position in the account of art and altered how artists perceived, documented and understood the truth. Prior to the invention of camera work, artists recorded events in paintings, pictures, portraits, and language. The moment camera work switched in photography became the society s means of recording events. This gave artists a new way of representing the globe and events in a realistic figure, structure, and another approach to know the earth and what is going on. Pictorial knowledge and information transmission transformed how communities corresponded, symbolized and knew their material earth. Governments, communities, legitimacy and accounts have been intensely influenced by the invention of camera works. How and the way societies articulate ideas have been transformed by the technological and technical progress of the 19 th century to present which has led to the expansion and outburst of image or photographic depiction. Camera woks has greatly influenced and changed various fields in our society such as schooling, art, policies, governments, customs, beliefs, accounts, ICTs, skill and knowledge, power and the every other phase of humanity. It has become part of our lives and every phase of life is part of it. Moreover, the influence of the immobile representation and the supremacy of the structure in addition have been challenged, maneuvered, enhanced and transformed using advanced soft wares and the computer technologies.
