6 Issues: Skill level of high school graduates who want to enter the manufacturing sector are not acceptable 1. Currently, our company cannot accept local high school graduate applications due to lack of skills 2. Schools are often teaching 20 year old technologies especially in ROP and Voc Ed programs 3. Most teachers don t have a working knowledge of either engineering or current technologies

Promote manufacturing training and education - first to teachers and then to their students 3. Support local high schools and vocational programs by being their labs

10 Offer Train the Trainer for STEM, ROP and Voc Ed Teachers Add STEM picture here Give teachers tours of our facilities to see the technologies we use every day and the great careers we offer to their students Offer teachers the opportunity to learn current technologies and engineering at local manufacturing companies

15 Why offer the Train the Trainer Instruction? First teachers, then students need to learn about the most current technology Trained teachers who train students will lead to qualified employees Schools cannot afford a $600,000 laser, so teachers have little opportunity to learn this technology Manufacturers must collaborate with educational institutions to update and improve access to STEM and vocational programs A meaningful manufacturing training program requires quality curriculum which can be used by the teachers Student immersion in current manufacturing technology leads to a stronger work force and sustainable culture of industry

17 Connecting with Butte County Schools Several manufacturing companies actively participate on the Butte County STEM Advisory Committee, facilitated by Susan Hukkanen Transfer Flow conducted Train the Trainer with ROP and Voc Ed instructors from 5 local high schools in June, 2014 In August 2014, four manufacturing companies offered tours to superintendents, principals and staff members ure=youtu.be&list=uutm6bvqv4vg-oibqhy-rika

18 What s Next? At the end of the Train the Trainer we gave each instructor a flash drive with all the training information and asked them to develop new curriculum To move forward with this project we need to get buy-in from the leaders at the various schools On October 2 we will have the Manufacturing Expo and Round Table at the Chico State BMU We want middle school and high school students to come to this event so teachers and students can see all the great things that local manufacturers build Go to: to register for the expo
