2 quality policies Lyttelton Engineering has been an integral part of the Port of Lyttelton since The present private company was formed in 1991 and is now one of Canterbury s largest engineering companies and has proven itself to be one of the province s leading marine and industrial/fabrication facilities. Lyttelton Engineering Ltd has been quality accredited to ISO 9001 since 1993 and is specifically certified for the following activities. Inspection and test plans are agreed with clients prior to the start of a project and full manufacturing records are made available on completion. The company also holds Class 2 Certification for the Fusion Welded Pressure Vessels in accordance with the rules and regulations of Lloyds Register of Shipping. Steel fabrication facility The management team Our collective experience and expertise in ship repair, boiler manufacture and repair, steel fabrication and machining, and site installation and maintenance work has firmly positioned us at the forefront of these industries. The company operates on a truly hands on philosophy and has all the necessary resources to take overall responsibility for the range of projects and contracts that we undertake, from initial design concepts through to completion and operational support. The business is structured to undertake work in 3 different areas. These are ship repairs, heavy steel fabrication & machining and industrial site work. Major specialist products within these areas include boiler manufacture, installation and servicing, supply of ski lifts and aerial ropeways, and the manufacture and installation of modular aluminium stairs and walkways. design expertise A modern design office staffed by professionally qualified design engineers provides technical advice and support both to the workshop and directly to clients. The office is equiped with CAD stations, operating both 3 dimensional Solidworks and Autocad depending on the application. While competent in all aspects of mechanical design the engineering group has specialist expertise in steam plant and reticulation, boiler and pressure vessel design and construction, pipework design and material handling systems. 3 ship repair Double docking of Amaltal trawlers Steel fabrication facility Lyttelton Engineering is the largest engineering facility in the Port of Lyttelton. With a large well equipped workshop situated alongside the only dry dock in the South Island, we are well positioned to provide an efficient servicing and repair capability to owners of vessels both using the dry dock or passing through the port. The dry dock which was completed in 1883, can accommodate vessels up to 125 metres in length and 5,000 tonnes in weight. The company is approved and equipped to conduct surveys to the requirements of any classification society and the range of work undertaken includes propeller shaft and rudder overhauls and replacements, hull and structural repairs, engine work, painting, shipwrighting and electrical work. Up to 30 major surveys and dry dockings are undertaken each year, some of which are double dockings and the range of vessels includes fishing trawlers, cargo vessels, tugs, gas carriers, cement carriers and dredges. fabrication & machining Propeller shaft survey on Russian trawler Modern CNC lathe The modern engineering facility has the capability to tackle a wide range of jobs from specialist repairs to large scale heavy fabrication projects. The fabrication shop is equipped with two 10t overhead cranes and its larger plant includes a 3m wide heavy plate rolls, a 650t press brake, a 3.6m wide heavy plate guillotine and submerged arc welding machinery. Machining capability includes lathes up to 7m bed length, milling machines, radial drills, a 1.5m diameter horizontal borer, CNC lathes and a CNC machining centre. Large steel pipe fabrication

4 Pump installation- Black Point, Kurow industrial sitework Industrial site work makes up a significant part of the company s operation and is split into 3 main areas, general installation maintenance and repairs, mechanical and electrical servicing of plant & equipment including boilers and large site based projects and contracts. Work is undertaken for a wide range of industries such as fertiliser plants, freezing works, tyre factories, food plants and other manufacturing and processing plants. The company can provide a large team of experienced staff for shutdown maintenance or at short notice for unexpected breakdowns and where necessary work can continue 24 hours per day. Depending on a clients requirements we are able to manage all aspects of a job with the use of specialist subcontractors or will work in co-operation with other contractors engaged by the client. 5 12MW- coal boiler Canterbury University Boiler control system upgrade boilers Lyttelton Engineering is the NZ agent and manufacturer for Maxitherm Combustion Technologies of Singapore, a leading designer and manufacturer of a comprehensive range of boilers, combustion equipment and autoclaves. Particularly the boilers are widely known for their reliability, robustness and advanced control systems. The company produced its first boiler in 1980 and since then many have been produced for locations throughout the north and south islands, ranging up to 16MW in size and utilising oil, gas, wood and coal fuels. Most of the recent installations operate as unattended boilers and the company has undertaken many upgrades and conversions to unattended operation of existing boilers. Our boiler servicing division offers a comprehensive nationwide maintenance and repair service, including quarterly checks, annual surveys, boiler tune-ups and system upgrades. Staff operate from fully equipped vehicles and are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The company is certified to ISO 9001 for boiler servicing and has the expertise to ensure that all aspects of the OSH code of practice are being met. stairs and platforms Poma lift Cardrona ski lifts Lyttelton Engineering is the NZ agent for Leitner Poma of America, a subsidiary of the Italian / French manufacturer of ski lifts and aerial ropeways. Recent lifts installed in NZ include 4 seater chairlifts at Cardrona and the Remarkables ski fields, and 6 seater detachable chairlifts at the Mt Hutt and Coronet ski fields. Lyttelton Engineering is also the NZ agent and manufacturer for Magic Carpet of the United States for supply of conveyor lifts. These conveyors are either 600 or 750mm wide and up to 350m in Magic Carpet- Remarkables length. The company has installed conveyors for the learner slopes on most of the South Islands larger ski fields as well as producing several for Australian and Japanese ski fields. Guardway is the tradename for Lyttelton Engineering s proprietary modular design of handrails, stairs and platforms which are constructed from lightweight aluminium, for ease of installation and corrosion resistance. As part of the service we provide, we can design and detail an access system to suit a customers needs and verify it s conformance to the appropriate standards and codes.
