1 FRENCH, YEAR 2 The objectives of all French lessons in Year 2 are: 1. -to familiarise the children with everyday vocabulary and everyday phrases. 2. -to introduce the children to the correct pronunciation of words by initially using only oral sessions. 3. to make the children aware of the gender of the nouns learnt and the importance of learning the article with the noun. 4. to build the children s confidence in their own ability by role play, singing and games and to instil the wish to learn to speak the language. 5. to introduce the children to the written word and to associate this written word with the oral vocabulary already learnt. 1 Autumn Term Recap all previous vocabulary (and introduce to new members of the class): - numbers to 10 - basic colours - transport - body parts and movement - farm animals Recap songs: La tete, les epaulles Je marche, marche, marche Baa, baa, brebis noire Vieux MacDonald sur sa ferme Je m appelle Il s appelle Elle s appelle Comment t appelles-tu? J ai vu le loup Une chenille, tra la la The overall objective has been to make the learning of the language easy and fun; to make the children realise that they actually have a solid basic vocabulary they can put together and with which they can communicate. They have been introduced to adjectives and have been taught to use these with the nouns hence the learning of gender so all important, as from an early age the children must learn to make the adjective agree with the relevant noun. They have also been taught to position colours AFTER THE NOUN. They have also now been introduced to the written word, but only once they have learnt to pronounce it correctly.
