Change the battery if the symbo is dispayed. In the case of proonged storage, it is preferabe to remove the battery from the meter. Avoid shaking the meter, particuary in the measurement mode. The accuracy and function of the meter may be adversey affected by the specified imits outside and improper handing. DANGER In some cases, work in the vicinity of powerfu radiation sources can be a risk of your ife. Be aware that persons with eectronic impants(e.g. cardiac pacemakers) are subject to particuar dangers in some cases, Observe the oca safety reguations of the faciity operation. Observe the operating instructions for equipment which is used to generate, conduct or consumer eectromagnetic energy. Be aware that secondary radiators (e.g. refective objects such as a metaic fence) can cause a oca ampification of the fied. Be aware that the fied strength in the near vicinity of radiators increases proportionay to the inverse cube of the distance. This means that enormous fied strengths can resut in the immediate vicinity of sma radiation sources (e.g. eak in waveguides, inductive ovens). Fied strength measuring device can underrate pused 3

2 signas. Particuary with radar signas, significant measurement errors can arise. A fied strength measuring devices have a imited specified frequency range. Fieds with spectra components outside of this frequency range are generay incorrecty evauated and tend to be underrated. Before using fied strength measuring devices, you shoud thus be certain that a fied components to be measured ie in the specified frequency range of the measuring device. 2. INTRODUCTION 2-1 Fundamentas Eectromagnetic poution : This Meter used to indicate eectromagnetic poution generated artificiay. Wherever there is a votage or a current, the eectric (E) and magnetic (H) fieds arise. A types of radio broadcasting and TV transmitters produce eectromagnetic fieds, and they aso arise in industry, business and the home, where they affect us even if our sense organs perceive nothing. Eectric fied strength (E) : A fied vector quantity that represents the force (F) on an infinitesima unit positive test charge (q) at a point divided by that charge. Eectric fied strength is expressed in units of vots per meter (V/m). Use the units of eectric fied strength for measurements in the foowing situations : In the near-fied area of the source. Where the nature of the eectromagnetic fied is unknown. Magnetic fied strength (H) : A fied vector that is equa to the magnetic fux density divided by the permeabiity of the medium, Magnetic fied strength is expressed in units of amperes per meter (A/m). The meter uses of magnetic fied strength for measurements ony in the far-fied area of the source. Power density (S) : Power per unit area norma to the direction of propagation, usuay expressed in units of watts per square meter W/m 2 ) or, for convenience, units such as miiwatts per square centimeter (mw/cm 2 ). 4 5 The characteristic of eectromagnetic fieds Eectromagnetic fieds propagate as waves and trave at the speed of ight (c). The waveength is proportiona to the frequency. c (speed of ight) (waveength) = f (frequency) If the distance to the fied source is ess than three waveength, then we are usuay in the near-fied. If the distance is more than three wave ength, the far-fied conditions usuay hod. In the near-fied, the ratio of eectric fied strength (E) and magnetic fied strength (H) is not constant, so we have to measure each separatey. In the far-fied, however, It is enough to just measure one fied quantity, then the other coud be computed accordingy. 2-2 Appication Quite often routine operation, maintenance and service work has to be done in areas where active eectromagnetic fieds are present, e.g. in broadcasting stations, etc. Additionay, other empoyees may be exposed to eectromagnetic radiation. In such cases, it is essentia that personne are not exposed to dangerous eves of eectromagnetic radiation, such as : High frequency (RF) eectromagnetic wave fied strength measurement. Mobi phone base station antenna radiation power density measurement. Wireess communication appications (CW, TDMA, GSM, DECT). RF power measurement for transmitters. Wireess LAN (Wi-F) detection, instaation. Spy camera, wireess bug finder. Ceuar/Cordess phone radiation safety eve. Microwave oven eakage detection. Persona iving environment EMF safety. 2.3 Features The meter is a broadband device for monitoring highfrequency radiation in the range from 50MHz to 3.5GHz. The non-directiona eectric fied and high sensitivity aso aow measurements of eectric fied strength in TEM ces and absorber rooms. The unit of measurement and the measurement types have been seected to expressed in units of eectrica and magnetic fied strength and power density. At high frequencies, the power density is of particuar significance. It provides a measure of the power absorbed by a person exposed to the fied. This power eve must be kept as ow as possibe at high frequencies. The meter can be set to dispay the instantaneous vaue, the maximum vaue measured or the average vaue. Instantaneous and maximum vaue measurements are usefu for orientation, e.g. when first entering an exposed area. 50MHz to 3.5GHz Frequency range. For isotropic measurements of eectromagnetic fieds. Non-directiona (isotropic) measurement with threechanne measurement sensor. High dynamic range due to three-channe digita resuts processing. Configurabe aarm threshod and memory function. Easy & safety to use. 6 7

The fied strength vaue measured internay is mutipied by the vaue of CAL that has been entered and the resuting vaue is dispayed. The CAL setting range is from 0.20 to The CAL factor is often used as a means of entering the sensitivity of the fied sensor in terms of its frequency response in order to improve measurement accuracy. Frequency-dependent sensor caibration factors are provided for this appication, In many cases, the measurement accuracy wi be sufficient even if the frequency response of sensor caibration factor is ignored. CAL can be set to 1.00 in such cases
