We trust that you all had a wonderful holiday. Some families have had extended holidays and are just returning. We are excited about this Terms learning in all areas of the curriculum. Our Inquiry Learning for this term is based on Sustainability. Children are investigating ways to care for and look after the environment, getting to look at different environments and how things change over time, which can be harmful or beneficial and what our impact is as human beings on our planet. EXCITING THINGS ARE HAPPENING Not only our day to day curriculum exciting but we have a few special events happening this term. 2 PREP T "A Perceptual Motor Program aims to develop a child's perceptions and understandings of him/her self and his/her world through movement and motor experiences" The perceptions the child needs can be grouped as: (a) perception of self (body image, body control, laterality) if problems of reversals, sidedness, etc. are to be avoided in the classroom. (b) a perception of space, if problems with handwriting, poor use of time and inappropriate movement patterns are to be avoided. (c) a perception of time (body rhythm) if the child is to be able to remember things rhythmically and move efficiently and effectively in his / her world. PMP Our first session today! 2

3 GRADE 3&4 CAMP ALLAMBEE 2013 Monday 20th May - Wednesday 22nd May Payments Due anytime but the payment plan dates are: Friday 26th April Friday 10th May. All payments are due by Friday 10th May or your child will not be able attending. If you have any concerns about the camp or paying please see Mrs Melanie Farley, Mrs Elizabeth Thomas or Miss Tracy Johnson. G.A.T.E.WAYS developing and extending children's special abilities G.A.T.E.WAYS was established in 1994 to provide opportunities for highly able and gifted children with special educational needs. Like-minded students can participate in programs that will challenge them intellectually and help develop their individual talents. Both short and longer term programs in all areas of the curriculum are offered in Melbourne schools, 'On Location' and interstate. During school term students are selected to attend Eureka, Journeys,On Location programs, Grade 6 Seminars, Writers Ink, Festivals of Workshops or the secondary program Out On The Town. Journeys are extended programs. Children attend for four half days or two full days and explore an area of the curriculum in greater depth. Subject matter is wide-ranging and is often in areas not taught in the primary school curriculum. Students as young as six can become detectives solving hypothetical mysteries, work as archaeologists on a dig, explore the wonders of the universe or the world of the brothers Grimm. The possibilities are unlimited!! Journeys are hosted by schools throughout the metropolitan area and in Canberra. Gladesville Primary School is happy to announce that we have been offered the opportunity to host G.A.T.E. W.A.Y.S. We have a program beginning THIS week and we will have up to 60 students from our school and other schools visit us for their sessions on Friday mornings from pm over the next 4 weeks. Over the terms 3 & 4 we have other Journey Programs as well. If you would like your child to participate in these programs please let your child s teacher know. The programs do cost and information can be found at Parking could be an issue on Friday morning as parents from different schools come in, especially for the first session. 3

Spare sheets available from Mrs Farley in the Office or at your local store. Mothers Day Raffle 6 th May Money & tickets due back by Tuesday 6 th May. Raffle will be drawn on Friday 10 th May. Tickets are $1.00 each & spare tickets available from Mrs Farley in the Office. Community Group Shop Open this Friday from 2:45pm to 3.40pm. 6 May is National Family Reading Month and as we are having Book Fair in May our school is able to participate in the competition, where we encourage children to read every day with their families during the month of May! Attached to the newsletter is a pamphlet which contains more information about the READ MORE IN MAY challenge. To participate, your child can go online to pledge to Read More in May, and answer the simple question How do you think reading every day might help you to lead a better life? The top 25 entries will each win a book pack valued at $250 from Scholastic PLUS the winning students schools will each receive $1,000 in Scholastic Rewards 22nd May, 2013 to 29th May,
