5 Speaker Bios Terry B. Grier, Ed.D. joined the Houston Independent School District in His education career spans four decades, including nearly 30 years as a superintendent. Under his leadership, HISD has achieved all-time high graduation rates and all-time low dropout rates, while reform initiatives like the Apollo 20 program have helped gain the district both local and national recognition, including the 2013 Broad Prize in Urban Education. Dr. Grier s numerous awards include the 2008 North Carolina Superintendent of the Year Award and the American Association of School Administrators Effie H. Jones Humanitarian Award for the support of women and minorities in education. He and his wife, Nancy, have four grown children. Lenny Schad is the chief information technology officer for the Houston Independent School District (ISD) and has been working in the technology field for 25 years. During this time, Lenny s career has taken him into many business sectors where he has established a very successful leadership and management track record. Prior to his role at Houston ISD, Lenny was the chief information officer at Katy Independent School District, a Houston-area district recognized nationally for technology innovation. Through Lenny s leadership, the school district initiated a bring their own device program and made public Wi-Fi available on every campus since the school year. Lenny s business sector experience includes hospitality, government, oil and gas, investment banking and education. His career highlights include leading technology departments for the Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations in 1991 and the Republican National Convention in 1992 as well as managing technology departments for joint ventures and global organizations. Keith R. Krueger is CEO of CoSN, a nonprofit organization that serves as the voice for K-12 school system technology leaders nationwide. CoSN s mission is to empower educational leaders to leverage technology to realize engaging learning environments. In 2008, Keith was selected by eschool News as one of ten people who have had a profound impact on educational technology over the last decade. Mary Ann Wolf, PhD has fifteen years of experience in education and education technology. Mary Ann has worked closely with federal, state, and local education leaders; policy-makers; and organizations on connecting policy and practice for innovative education reform, digital learning, and instructional practices. Mary Ann developed and co-facilitated the Digital Learning Transition MOOC for Educators through the Friday Institute at NC State University and the Alliance for Excellent Education. She is also the lead researcher on the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Project Tomorrow Teachers Readiness to Adopt and Adapt Content (TRAAC) project, which includes in-person and virtual focus groups with education leaders and teachers. 5
