3 Dr. Veronika Elizabeth Bohac-Clarke Submitted by Christian Cook I would like to share my gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Veronika Elizabeth Bohac-Clarke who is an inspiration to me and her other graduate students, and certainly her graduates as well. She is a wealth of knowledge and a renowned expert in her field(s!) yet always has time and respect for new ideas and perspectives from students. Her enthusiasm and interest in my project is energizing and her intuitive coaching capabilities help me to know when to take leaps and also when to tighten up, and all in such an encouraging way. 6 Professor Anil K. Mehrotra - Incredible Supervisor Submitted by Samira Haj-Shafiei I am almost half way through my PhD studies, and I am very lucky to have Dr. Mehrotra as my PhD supervisor. I appreciate all his support, patience, mentorship and understanding through all this time. He is a true role model for me and other young students. Your support and orientation started even before I was officially your student, I am truly grateful for that. During these two years, both of you have been strongly supportive, providing the necessary directions and guidance to the development and growth of my art practice and theoretical research. Your active and engaged supervision was paramount to finalize my MFA thesis. 6

7 Dr. Jason de Koning Submitted by Shams Bhuiyan There are too many reasons why Jason is a great supervisor but I think the core of the de Koning lab is Jason's commitment to excellence and his passion for science. He gets really excited about his work and that draws the rest of us in as well. Jason is also committed to his students succeeding and as a result, we feel very welcomed in the lab. Dr. Alexander de leon, Associate Professor, Statistics Submitted by Fahmida Yeasmin I was really in a hopeless situation in beginning of last summer. However my supervisor saved me from that situation and now I am pretty confident that I can do something significant. He is really supportive, fun loving and knowledgeable in his field of research. I would like to mention his passion for books. He always tries to support his students not only academically but also psychologically I think. I wish his long happy successful life. 7

8 A.P. Jason de Koning Submitted by Ivan Kryukov Jason is awesome. And I would like to clarify that I am using "awesome" not in the colloquial way, but to mean "awe-inspiring". He is a brilliant man to talk to. After every meeting with him, I feel exalted and overflowing with new ideas. He is both patient and meticulous in his explanations, but wields his logic as an elegant rapier, slicing through the circumstance and getting to the bottom of things. He gives his students wonderful opportunities for self-improvement. He sends his students to the top meetings and best conferences in the field. It allows us to get a world-class education and become part of the scientific community. He is humble. If I ever reach Jason's level of sophistication, I will be brimming with an inflated sense of self-worth. Considering his achievements, Jason shows none of that. I think his greatest genius is in his skill of relating to students. I see him as a friend, and a colleague, not a supervisor. One can hardly ask for more. 8
