BACKGROUND The Student Practice Facilitatr is a psitin created as part f the implementatin f the new Bachelr f Midwifery undergraduate degree which is jintly wned by Otag Plytechnic and CPIT. The new prgramme uses blended delivery mdels t enable grups f students based in lcatins thrughut the Suth Island (called satellites) and the lwer Nrth Island t access the Bachelr f Midwifery prgramme. The blended delivery cmpnents cmprise face t face intensive blcks, nline thery cntent, nline tutrials, midwifery practice in rural and urban lcatins, and face t face small grup tutrials with the SPFs in satellite areas. The prgramme was first delivered in the Suth Island in Frm 2010 the prgramme it was als delivered thrugh satellites in Whanganui, Palmerstn Nrth and Wellingtn. Page 1 f 6
2 PURPOSE OF THE POSITION K te tikaka te tūraka The Student Practice Facilitatr will be respnsible fr facilitating and arranging practice pprtunities, liaising with practitiners in practice areas, prviding tutrials, undertaking student assessments and prviding supervisin, guidance and pastral care t students lcated in satellites. The Student Practice Facilitatr may als be invlved in preparatin and delivery f nline and face t face teaching and assessment. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Kā kaweka take 1. Crdinatin and supprt Liaise with midwives and midwifery services within the lcal area Crdinate midwifery practice pprtunities fr students; Build and supprt learning cmmunities amngst students; Supprt students t undertake the majrity f their study in their wn area thrugh a blended delivery mdel. This mdel includes: A range f learning resurces including print, CD, DVD and nline materials Lcal tutrial grups facilitated by the SPF Distance/nline tutrial pprtunities Lcal midwifery practice supprt by the SPF Face t face intensive blcks in Christchurch r Dunedin Midwifery practice experiences in rural and prvincial areas as well as main centres. Prvide supprt and pastral care t students; Build a sense f prfessinal cllegiality between midwives in the cmmunities and students; Build a sense f prfessinal cllegiality between midwives in the cmmunities and the Schl f Midwifery staff; Enhance lcal maternity services thrugh prvisin f educatinal resurces t areas utside f the main centres. 3. Teaching and assessment Teach in tutrial grups, including demnstratin and supervisin f practical skills. Page 2 f 6
3 Teach in intensive blck curses and nline. Prepare, review and update teaching/tutrial resurces regularly t align with evidence, discipline currency and delivery mdel. Teach, supervise and assess students in prfessinal practice areas as required. Develp bjectives and utcmes fr apprpriate practice wrk experience in cnsultatin with ther lecturing staff. Ensure practical assessments meet the requirements f Plytechnic plicies and the Midwifery Cuncil s Standards fr Registratin. Assist in marking f written assessments. Participate in assessment and mderatin in accrdance with Plytechnic plicies and prcesses. Ensure student results are recrded accurately and referred t the Midwifery Assessment Cmmittee within the expected timeframe. Effectively use a variety f apprpriate teaching and learning strategies including teaching n-line and ther mdes f flexible delivery. 4. Curriculum Planning and Develpment Cntribute t the nging develpment f the Bachelr f Midwifery curses. Assist with the delivery, assessment, mderatin and evaluatin prcesses. 5. Schlarship and Research mōhitaka Critically reflect n practice as a teacher, and cntinuusly develp teaching practices as a result. Maintain wn discipline currency and the ability t integrate new discipline knwledge and evidence effectively int teaching and learning practices. Cntribute t research envirnment. 6. Cntribute t Midwifery Schl publicatins (newsletters, handbks etc) and prmtin and marketing activities. Represent Midwifery Schl at meetings where apprpriate. Act respectfully and prfessinally in dealings with all staff and students. Prvide pen and hnest feedback when requested, bth t individuals and n rganisatinal prcesses r issues. 7. Administratin whakahaere Administer the supply f curse materials and equipment t students. Maintain and stre cpies f all curse and assessment material in the department shared files. Ensure student recrds and results are recrded accurately and stred apprpriately. Plan fr wn wrklad, persnal and prfessinal develpment and perfrmance reviews. Ensure all relevant plicies, practices and prcedures f the Plytechnic and Schl f Midwifery are fllwed. Page 3 f 6

Cmpulsry Training Must be cmpleted within the specified time frames and it is yur bligatin t register yurself within the specified timeframes using the apprpriate prgramme.
