We envisage completion of this phase within 6 months but the project, using the same number of days, may be extended to up to 12 months with agreement About Ashley Community Housing The mission of Ashley Community Housing (ACH) is to support the settlement and resettlement needs of refugees, vulnerable homeless and other displaced people, to develop their independence, promote their positive contribution to the community and ease their integration into the UK life. Our Vision is to be recognised as the LEADING CULTURALLY SPECIFIC housing and training provider COMMITTED to inspiring TRANSFORMATIVE change in our communities. We are a not-for-profit organisation, a Registered Provider of Social Housing (with exempt status) and a company limited by guarantee. Operating in Bristol, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Birmingham, we currently provide shared accommodation to 360 tenants at any one time. In the last financial year we increased the number of bed spaces by 30%, with turnover increasing from 1.6m to 2.2m. Our most recent internal social impact report shows us generating 7.66 of value for every 1 spent. Income is also derived from a number of complementary services, most notably from the training service ( Himilo ) which was created to provide English-language training and employability services to our clients and the communities we serve. Our business model going forward will be one of sourcing social investment to grow our impact, and the development of further partner relationships to drive a growth in social enterprise and training. 6 pages

2 Background This role provides a rare opportunity for a keen, experienced freelancer to make a genuine contribution to the overall success of the organisation, to our refugee tenants and other community members struggling with English language acquisition, and to develop your-self personally as an all-round volunteering specialist. This is a new freelance role supported for up to 78 days, designed to pump-prime ambitious developments in our volunteer-led work. Our aspiration is to establishing Ashley Community Housing as a benchmark provider of quality, impactful volunteer-led English language training and support. You will need to be someone with the energy and persistence to drive this work forward and with the knowledge and confidence to advocate for volunteers and volunteering across the organisation. You will set up all systems and processes, working to best practice guidelines; ultimately you will achieve either Mentoring and Befriending Foundation or Investing in Volunteers accreditation by March 2017, sooner if possible. Our commitment is that volunteers be offered outstanding opportunities to develop their own skills and experience while making a big difference in the lives of others. You will recruit and train an initial team of 10 volunteer language trainers and assistant trainers, taking responsibility for all aspects of recruitment and related internal and external communication. You will also administer and co-ordinate a variety of related tasks within the role, including timetabling training, interviews, and CRB checks. You will design and/or co-design a volunteer training programme, containing core good practice and about the organisation material applicable to all volunteers we may seek to recruit in future, as well as additional material focused on the specific language trainer roles available. You will ensure timely data collection, particularly related to evaluation and learning, and input, check accuracy and liaise with volunteers and other team members. You will also assist with all aspects of reporting. Finally, you will timetable and make ready 3 volunteer delivered training courses for non-english speakers, approx 20 hours in duration and involving up to 24 individual learners. Other team members will support you in recruiting learners for these courses. Taken together, this package of work presents a varied and fascinating range of challenges and opportunities that will need to be effectively planned and co-ordinated. We want someone with fantastic organisation and multi-tasking skills that can hit the ground running, but appreciate that to do that effectively you will need support. We will work with you to timeline work, agree resource requirements for different stages, and agree outputs. You will have freedom to make these agreed plans happen. We re committed to providing coaching, direction and signposting as most appropriate to your needs and designed help you to succeed. Circumstances Location is negotiable - you may be based in our Sandwell or Wolverhampton office, although the new training and development team as a whole will operate remotely. The role is freelance up to a maximum of 78 days, with a flexible working pattern negotiable Job share and part-time working may be considered for this role. 4 Role Description Principal Accountabilities Marketing and promotion To develop targeted and generic promotional materials designed to publicise our volunteering opportunities, including liaison across the team and with design and print providers To reach out to referral agencies, such as volunteer centres, educational institutions and companies, potential volunteers and other stakeholders to ensure our volunteering opportunities and the wider programme achieves a high external profile (some of this work can be undertaken in conjunction with the Training and Development Team Leader once they are appointed) Recruitment To provide a first port of call for all inquiries about our language trainer volunteering opportunities To administer and co-ordinate all aspects of language trainer volunteering within the programme, liaising with other team members as necessary To ensure language trainer volunteering roles are supported by role descriptions, which will also provide a template for all future volunteering role descriptions To assess applications to volunteer as a language trainer and to interview suitable candidates, check references and using the Disclosure and Barring Service when appropriate to the role Co-ordination To develop and co-ordinate all volunteering related policies, procedures and standards, including achieving Mentoring and Befriending Foundation accreditation, or a similar award To keep up to date with legislation and policy related to volunteering and brief the team as needed To keep developed policies and procedures under review and to implement changes when necessary To create and provide volunteer induction, training and post-training selection programmes, as agreed To arrange social and networking events for volunteers, as considered useful as part of their support Monitoring, evaluation and learning To act as volunteering champion within the team contribute to evaluation and continuous learning within the organisation to support development To be proactive in maintaining accurate volunteer/ing related data To undertake consultations with volunteers to ensure that they are involved in the design and running of the programme and able to influence its delivery Other To carry out all administrative tasks quickly, effectively and accurately in keeping with the requirements of the organisation and programme funders To follow the organisation s policies and procedures.
