4 Jive Widget Studio With the Jive Widget Studio plugin, your community can easily manage and upload Jive Studio widgets. This plugin enables users to find and create widgets that they can add to their home page or overview pages of their spaces, projects and groups. To get started, install the Jive Widget Studio plugin. For more information, see Getting Set Up. The following diagram illustrates the relationship between Jive Widget Studio and Jive SBS. The table following the diagram provides more information about the services outlined in this diagram. Service Widget Gallery Feed Proxy Image Proxy Amazon S3 Storage Service Widget Data Service Description Provides facilities for finding, creating and downloading widgets. Provides feed-consuming widgets with a single feed-aggregation point. This prevents widgets from overloading content provider's feed capabilities. Provides image resizing and proxying services. It allows images to be adjusted for different screen resolutions and provides a secure endpoint for images that would otherwise be transmitted in the clear. Stores widget thumbnails, which are the thumbnails used to represent the widget in an Amazon S3 storage service bucket. Provides a simple data storage service for widgets such as poll widgets. This storage service ultimately stores the data using Amazon's SimpleDB service. Getting Set Up Getting up and running with Jive Widget Studio is pretty simple. This topic should get you started. Installing the Plugin Jive Widget Studio - 2

5 The Jive Widget Studio is installed as a plugin you can download from the Jive Software web site. Note that after you add the plugin JAR, you'll need to restart Jive SBS in order for the Jive Widget Studio feature to become available. Once you have the plugin JAR file, install it using the following steps: 1. In the admin console, go to System > Plugins > Add Plugin. 2. Under Install a new plugin, click Choose File to browse for the JAR file you received. 3. After you've chosen the file, click Upload to add the plugin to the community. 4. Restart the application as described in the administration documentation. After you've installed the Jive Widget Studio plugin, you can test its connection. For more on testing the connection, see Configuring Jive Widget Studio (page 3). System Requirements The following describes the system requirements for installing the Jive Widget Studio plugin. For set up instructions, see Getting Set Up. Software Prerequisites Jive SBS 4.5 or higher. Must be able to access the service in the cloud. Hardware Prerequisites Make sure the Jive SBS server clock stays in sync with NTP. To do this, the department responsible for your servers, such as IT, needs to write a cron job to perform a daily time sync with NTP. Network Prerequisites If you have a proxy set up on your network, make sure you configure the following system preferences. For more getting set up, see Getting Set Up. You can set up your community to support Jive Studio widgets. In the UI: Admin Console: System > Settings > Jive Widget Studio Click Test Connection to verify Jive SBS is connected to Jive Widget Studio. Using Jive Widget Studio What is Jive Widget Studio? Jive Widget Studio introduces new widgets that socialize and personalize your home page or the overview pages of your spaces, projects and groups. You can grab widgets from the gallery, add someone's customized widget from where it sits on a page, or customize your own widget based on Jive templates. These widgets enable you to keep useful tools within reach while cruising around your community. Capture content that's useful to you, for example, you can add an RSS feed to stay updated on your CEOs latest blog post, or insert a countdown clock to a group event. You can change out your widgets whenever you want, or just update their look and feel. Jive Widget Studio - 3

(page 4) How do I make a Jive Studio widget? The Jive Widget Studio not only lets you choose from a gallery of several widgets, but it also enables you to make your own widgets using Jive templates. These widgets can be anything from an event sign up, to a clock counting down a project's end, to a blog that you're interested in. These templates are designed to point to content that you want at your fingertips. To make a widget: 1. From your home page or overview page, click Your View or Overview tab. 2. Click the personalize link to jump into design mode. Note: You can also go to New > Widget to make a widget. 3. Click the Jive Studio tab. 4. Select Your Widgets > Make a Widget > Launch the Widget Studio to browse all the available widget templates, where you see widget types like Blog/Feed, Twitter, Slideshow, Form, and more. 5. Select the widget type and enter requested information, if necessary. 6. Click Make Widget. 7. Customize the widget as desired. 8. Click Save Widget to add the widget to Your Widgets. 9. When you're ready to add the widget to a page, select it in Your Widgets and then drag and drop the Drag to Add button to place it where you want it. 10. Click Publish Layout to exit design mode and see how the widget looks in the page. How do I find Jive Studio widgets? When you're ready to add a Jive Studio widget to your home page or overview page, just use the following steps. For more on using widgets, see "Designing Pages with Widgets" in the core documentation. To find a widget: 1. From your home page or overview page, click Your View or Overview tab. 2. Click the personalize link to jump into design mode. Note: You can also go to Your Stuff > Widgets to find widgets. 3. Click the Jive Studio tab. 4. Select Gallery Widgets > Find a Widget > Launch the Widget Gallery to browse all the available widgets. 5. Select the widget you want to find out more about, and if you like it, click Get Widget to bring the widget into your available Gallery widgets. 6. When you're ready to add the widget to a page, just drag and drop the Drag to Add button to place it where you want it. 7. Click Publish Layout to exit design mode and see how the widget looks in the page. How can I get someone else's widget? If you see a widget on an overview page, you can add it to your gallery of widgets. To get someone's widget: 1. Click a widget in an activity stream or go to the page that has the widget you want. 2. In the top right corner of the widget, click the plus sign. 3. Click Get Widget. 4. Click Go to Widget to open the widget or Close to close the Get Widget dialog and return to the overview page.
