AUDIOLOGY HEARING AID SERVICES To learn more about hearing aid services at Olmsted Medical Center, talk with your healthcare provider or contact: Department of Audiology 210 Ninth Street SE Rochester, MN direct-dial tel: rev Ninth Street SE Rochester, MN tel:

Are you in need of help to clearly hear the world around you? Olmsted Medical Center wants your hearing to be the best it can be. Our professional audiologists will evaluate your hearing and will work with you to provide you with the equipment and support you need.

Hearing Aid Services Olmsted Medical Center s Audiology department is pleased to provide you with complete hearing aid services from diagnostics and hearing aid fittings to repairs and cleanings. We are committed to helping you get the maximum benefit and life expectancy out of the hearing aids. Periodic professional cleanings are recommended, and even with the best daily care, repairs may be needed. Your new OMC hearing aids will be professionally programmed and adjusted for your needs. All hearing aid adjustments are done at no charge during the first year. Services after that period are charged on a fee-for-service basis. OBTAINING Hearing Aids Follow these steps to obtain hearing aids to best meet your needs: TEST: Get a thorough evaluation completed by an audiologist. Some insurance companies, including Medicare, require documented medical necessity with the referral for the audiologic evaluation. PRESCRIBE: Following the test, schedule a hearing aid consult to select the hearing aids that will meet your goals: acoustic, cosmetic, and financial. ORDER: Your audiologist will order the hearing aids, make any necessary molds, and schedule the fitting appointment.

HEAR: Begin your adjustment and trial period, returning for follow-up appointments as recommended. Your audiologist will prescribe the hearing aids or assistive device with features based on your hearing loss. A prescription or recommendation for hearing aids will be given to you along with a copy of your exam results. Digital hearing aids are available with many features such as directional microphones, noise suppression, automatic volume controls, telephone switches, and wax-barriers. Hearing Aid Device Fees Hearing aid device fees are the fees for the hearing aid product itself. In addition to the device, OMC charges professional fees (see below). The device fee is determined by the manufacturer and based on technology and features. Device fees range from $900 to $2,800 per aid. Currently, the average hearing aid device fee at OMC is $1,600. OMC Appointment Fees In addition to the hearing aid device fees, there are professional service fees. Hearing aid consultation...$172 Ear impression (each)...$55 Dispensing fee: monaural (one ear)...$551 binaural (two ears)...$ day Trial Period OMC offers a standard 45-day trial period. This way you can evaluate your hearing aids after they are fit to see if they meet your needs. If you are not satisfied with the hearing aid(s) during the trial period, you may return the aid(s) for a refund of the device and fitting fees, less $75 per aid. OMC Hearing Aid Care OMC recommends patients schedule an annual hearing aid check appointment for routine care. For any problems prior to your annual check, please call and schedule a repair appointment. The best service is available when the audiologist can evaluate the patient s ear, as well as the patient s hearing aid, inside of his or her ear. Drop-off repairs are discouraged. Minor cleanings and wax filter changes may be arranged by calling Hearing aid check/cleaning/tuning: one aid...$86 two aids...$129 Electroacoustic check: one aid...$89 two aids...$161 If you did not purchase your hearing aids through OMC, please ask your audiologist about the fees for hearing aid checks, repairs, and services for non-omc hearing aids.

Manufacturer Repairs Out of manufacturer warranty Manufacturer Fees: Instrument < 5 yrs...$298 Instrument > 5 yrs...$413 Additional charges may apply depending on the type of repair needed. Caring for Hearing Aids Keeping your hearing aids clean, dry, and wax-free will help your hearing aids function their best. It may also extend the life of the hearing aids. The average time most midwesterners wear a particular hearing aid before replacing it with a new model is six to seven years. Some have hearing aids that are older and the aids still work satisfactorily. We recommend you take care of your hearing aids each day to avoid costly repairs. Each night: Wipe off your hearing aids to remove wax and oil. Use a dry cloth or tissue. Remove wax from the sound opening with a small brush or wax loop. Change the wax filter as directed. Keep aids dry. Store them overnight in a desiccant (dry aid kit) container made for hearing aids. Follow the manufacturer s directions. For chronic moisture issues, try hearing aid Sweat Bands for BTE aids or an electronic hearing aid dryer (both are available at OMC). If you have any problems with your hearing aids or need adjustments, please schedule an appointment for service. If you need a hearing evaluation, ask your healthcare provider for a referral and schedule an appointment by calling OMC Audiology at
