1 VET COORDINATOR Position Description Background The idea to establish an independent school in the Great Southern Region arose from the educational needs of families desiring an independent school alternative closer than metropolitan Perth. To meet this need, Great Southern Grammar was founded in 1996 by a Development Committee, which refined the concept and put a business plan in place. Great Southern Grammar was incorporated in 1998 and those who had worked to establish the School became the first Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees established the inaugural School Council. The School Council as the governing body of GSG are the educational and financial authority for the School. The School opened in 1999 with 36 students at the temporary Mt Melville Campus. The building master plan was commenced to establish permanent facilities at Lower Kalgan. The School moved into its new home on the shores of Oyster Harbour in Term One of When local Noongar elder Aiden Eades spoke at the opening ceremony of the School he stated, The School grounds are of special significance to local Noongars, with the Kalgan and King rivers meeting close by. Never forget that this is Noongar land but you are welcome to use it, especially for the use of something like education. The School has grown each year, with enrolments reaching 845 K-12 in Mission Statement To provide the young people of the Great Southern Region and beyond, a world class school, incorporating a liberal education, the Christian faith and a maritime heritage. Our Commitment Great Southern Grammar is committed to providing students with a well-rounded education that imparts valuable life skills and prepares young people to participate and achieve in their community and society. We are committed to: providing students with a broad and balanced education by encouraging participation in as many learning areas as possible; assisting students to recognise and value their gifts and talents and to develop these in appropriate ways; encouraging students, through their exposure to Christian teachings, to explore issues of faith, spirituality and values; enabling students to develop and appreciate the important place that integrity, respect, tolerance and compassion have within the context of a modern society.

2 Role Purpose The VET Coordinator s role is to establish, oversee and the delivery of VET programmes according to staff skills and school resources. The VET Coordinator works collaboratively with Director of Studies, Head of Senior School, Heads of House, Student Services and Teachers to ensure the delivery of the VET program. The VET Coordinator facilitates collaboration with parents, business and industry, postsecondary institutions and community organisations to support students transition to postsecondary education and employment. The role includes the management of work placements (WPL) and the Career program. The Careers programme is designed to establish, provide and coordinate career development services for students. The programme ensures the delivery of career development services facilitating liaison with parents, business and industry, postsecondary institutions and community organisations to support students transition to postsecondary education and employment. Relationships Reports to: Liaises with: Director of Studies, Head of Senior School, Deputy Principal, Principal Executive, Heads of House, Heads of Learning Area, Curriculum Administrator, Teaching Staff, students, parents, local business and relevant training bodies. Responsibilities VET Curriculum and Students Investigate, establish and oversee the delivery of VET programmes according to staff skills and school resources informed by research on employability Review and validate VET programmes with RTO and Director of Studies Promote to students, parents and staff the value of VET and Endorsed programmes for students from Year in WACE achievements Revise as needed to provide individual student pathways Ensure integration of VET qualifications into existing courses where appropriate Provide information to the School community regarding VET opportunities for students Promote and support the integration of VET to Senior School studies Liaise with parents, Head of Middle School and Senior School and Learning Support Coordinator to identify students interests and needs for individual VET pathway options Ensure semester teaching programmes meet course requirements and are completed according to required timeframe by VET teachers Facilitate and ensure relevant induction for VET teachers Coordinate the delivery of VET professional development for teachers Investigate and provide flexible pathways to meet individuals needs Ensure WPL opportunities are provided and monitor student placement and achievement VET Administration and Data Coordinate, monitor and ensure accurate enrolment, assessment and achievement data for all VET courses Ensure for VET enrolment, results and qualifications data to meet SCSA deadlines Oversee the validation of course delivery and assessment standards between VET teachers and the RTOs Supervise certification processes for VET courses

3 Workplace Learning Management of students involved in Workplace Learning placements as a result of enrolment in Workplace Learning Courses and Endorsed Programmes. Prepare programme and mentor students during WPL study periods Communicate with workplace hosts and monitor employability skill development, log of hours, safety and arrangements with host employer External Agencies Establish and maintain connections with external agencies to provide training and employment links Establish School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships and structured work placements for VET, WPL and post school transition students Regular communication with RTOs, VET in Schools Consulting Services, GSIT, Group Training Organisations, ATC Work Smart, Great Southern Personnel, Apprenticentre, industry groups, employers and community employment support agencies. Attend professional development activities and local network meetings to provide up-to-date information for the Director of Studies, students, parents and VET teachers. Career Development Develop and deliver Career Education programmes for Year 10, 11 & 12 students Identify potential career interests Career counselling with students, parents and staff Liaising and updating information from Universities, South Regional TAFE and ATC Work Smart Organisation of career guest speakers including Universities, TISC, South Regional TAFE and other organisations. Coordinate and manage Career Development events and excursions including university visits and portfolio entry workshops. Liaise with Head of Senior School, Director of Studies, parents, Heads of House and Learning Support Coordinator to identify student interests and needs for individual career pathways options. Assist students with the selection of appropriate academic and VET courses and provide advice to staff where appropriate. Coordinate career planning activities in the classroom, groups or individual sessions Provide information on postsecondary education programs and employment opportunities Provide and coordinate administration and interpretation of career assessments Assist students with postsecondary education and employment opportunities Coordinate the Work Experience Programme. Transition Services Facilitate work-based learning opportunities Provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills Promote the integration of career research and work-based learning opportunities into academic courses. Promote the use of technology for career planning and research Provide information to Year 12 students and parents in preparation for the School exit process Track GSG Alumni and share information about their journeys with the School community. Coordinate TISC visit and presentation to students and parents

4 Coordinate South Regional TAFE and Apprenticeship interviews for VET students Promote GAP year programmes and employment opportunities Partnerships Establish and maintain partnerships and communication with other schools, businesses, professional organisations, local servicers and employers to provide access to information and employment opportunities for students.
