When a scout has found a food source for the hive, she returns and performs a dance that tells other bees the direction and distance of the food. Play some bee-bopping: music and let them have their own bee dance. Busy Bee Flowers- (Older toddlers) Put various colors of flowers on the floor. Be sure to reveiw colors before placing on the floor. Play music when the music stops tell them to stand on the flower. You can either call out a color for them to stand on or have them tell you what color they landed on. the floor. Add details to make it look like a bee. Honeycombs- You make a honeycomb by hot gluing tissue paper tubes together. They can drop pom poms into the honeycombs Honeycomb Cereal- If you do not have any allergies or choking hazards, you can let them taste Honeycomb cereal.

6 Down at the Pond Tune: Down By The Station Down at the pond, early in the morning, See the little ducks swimming in a row. See the Mother duck, dive for her breakfast, Up, down, up, down, watch her go! Down at the pond, early in the morning, See the little ducks, swimming in a row. See the Mother duck, flap her wings just so, Up she flys, her ducklings in tow! Tiny Tim I had a little turtle, his name was Tiny Tim. I put him in the bathtub, to see if he could swim. He drank up all the water, he ate up all the soap. And now he's sick in bed, with a bubble in his throat! (Hiccup!)

7 Circle Time Activities Gross Motor Activities Quack and waddle like a duck Jump and hop like a frog Crawl like a turtle. Make lily pads and have them jump from one pad to another Science Look at duck feathers Bring in a live frog or turtle Math Sort colored pond animals Literacy Place a large blanket in the middle of the floor. Have stuffed pond animals (turtle, frog, duck, fish) for them to play and talk about animals that live in the pond.

8 In My Pond Children are sure to love this delightful finger puppet book. Layered die-cut pages allow a peek at all the colorful things that make up each animal's home, and an adorable folk-art style finger puppet make this book that is filled with reading and playtime fun. Mudpies!- Ponds can get very muddy. Paint with chocolate pudding to make a muddy pond scene. For the younger toddlers, you can let them do this in a plastic ziplock baggie. Pond Water- You can do the same activity except with blue jello or vanilla pudding with a couple drops of food coloring. Ponds have sand, rocks, water, lily pads, various plands. Set up small tubs and let them explore each. Pond Animals- Show pictures of animals that live in the pond. Make the sounds that the animals make.

9 Jump Frog Jump This is the turtle that slid into the pond and ate the snake that dropped from a branch and swallowed the fish that swam after the frog... Jump, frog, jump! This infectious, cumulative tale will soon have young frogs everywhere jumping and chanting with joy! As you read the book, do the gross motor activity every time you say the animal. (You will need to demonstrate for younger toddlers.) Fly- Flap your arms Frog- Do a frog jump Fish- Lay on your stomach and swim on the floor Snake- Crawl on your stomach on the floor Turtle- Crawl on the floor slowly Kids Choose an option- Pretend to row a boat, pull a net, pick up the basket and walk around. Make large frog feet out of cardstock. Make a handle for them to slide their hand through. Have a large sheet of butcher paper for them to make frog prints on. Feed the Frog- Make a frog out of a tissue box or wipe container. Depending on the age, let them feed the frog plastic bugs with their hands or tongs.

Call out a number and have them waddle and quack like a duck to the number. Paint with rubber ducks. Fingerpaint ducks and then put feathers on ducks. Put on sticks for retelling. Use rubber ducks in a small water tub to retell the story.

11 My Turtle and Me I snuggle with my turtle and hug him real tight. He cuddles next to me and hugs me right back. My turtle shines when we hug! This is a great little finger play to do while learning about turtles A little turtle There was a little turtle (put hands together in a fist) He lived in a box (make a box with both hands) He swam in a puddle (make swimming motions) He climbed on the rocks (use your fingers to climb up your arm) He snapped at a mosquito (clap hands) He snapped at a flea (chomp with your mouth) He snapped at a minnow (clap hands) He snapped at me (Do Home Alone Face) He caught the mosquito (grab with your hand) He caught the flea (grab with your hand) He caught the minnow (grab with your hand) But he didn't catch me (jump in excitement) Sensory Turtles- Cut a paper plate in half. Half various items for them to stick on the turtle shell. Add details to make it look like a turtle. Older toddlers can paint their paper plate green. Then add sensory items on the shell.

12 Mary, Mary Quite Contrary Mary, Mary, quite contrary, How does your garden grow? With silver bells, and cockle shells, And pretty maids all in a row. Make a minature garden with all the part of the rhyme. Invitation to play- Set up tubs with potting soil, plastic shovels, shells, bell, clothespin for the maids for them to play in. Flower Garden- Use various colored cupake liners to make a flower garden.
