1 Corporate Services Human Resources Human Resources Officer (Reward, Recruitment & Resourcing) Reviewing and developing our people practices in line with our ambitious strategy is key to the achievement of our goals and you will work closely with leaders, staff and HR colleagues to deliver new approaches to support this. This is a wide ranging role and the specific areas you are involved in will develop over time in line with our priorities. Initially your focus will be on reviewing our reward mechanisms and implementing improvements, including a new approach to rewarding and recognising individual and team contribution; supporting the development of our talent strategy; and reviewing our staff survey. You will take the lead or play a key role in supporting HR projects, ensuring effective planning and coordination, developing workable solutions and overcoming potential barriers. You will use your professional knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills to build credibility, develop effective working relationships and gain buy-in from key parties including senior management, staff and trade unions. You will also be a point of expertise across the areas of reward and resourcing providing advice, guidance and support to managers, staff and HR colleagues as appropriate. Beyond the University, you will liaise with colleagues regionally and nationally to share good practice. The ability to work flexibly across different projects and to balance competing priorities within the context of a complex and changing environment is critical to success within the role. 2 Job Description Responsible to: Reporting to: Deputy Director of HR. Head of Reward, Recruitment & Resourcing. Main Responsibilities This is a wide ranging and varied role directly supporting the achievement of HR and University priorities. Leading or supporting identified projects, you will work with key parties to agree outputs and ownership, taking responsibility for effective planning and monitoring, and identifying and managing risks in conjunction with the Head of Reward, Recruitment and Resourcing. gather, analyse and interpret a wide range of data, including statistical data, research of other organisations practices and consultation with internal stakeholders, using this to recommend appropriate ways forward. use your HR expertise and interpersonal skills to build credibility and gain buy-in from key parties including senior management, staff and trades unions, ensuring effective consultation and negotiation takes place. liaise with key parties such as HR colleagues, the Professional and Organisational Development Centre and the Equality Policy Unit, proactively building links and networks to ensure effective collaboration. Specific activities will vary in line with University priorities, however examples of initial projects include: Leading the implementation of a flexible and effective University wide approach to rewarding and recognising the contribution of individuals and teams; Supporting the development of the University s talent strategy, leading and supporting on key projects within this and ensuring that HR activities such as our reward mechanisms are aligned; Working as part of a team to agree the actions required to address any issues identified as part of our forthcoming equal pay audit; Reviewing the University s staff survey, the People Management Framework, ensuring that it provides robust data to inform decisions and monitor the achievement of our people strategy As part of the HR team you will contribute to the development and implementation of the University s HR strategy and the development of the reward and resourcing strategies and plans. You will provide pragmatic and consistent advice and support to managers and staff regarding reward and resourcing issues, and design and deliver training and workshops to promote best practice and to support the implementation of new approaches. Beyond the University you will represent Leeds at regional and national networks as required, sharing information and best practice and using this to improve our effectiveness. This job description provides a framework for the role of HR Officer (Reward, Recruitment & Resourcing). Priorities and activities will be determined in line with the University s strategic objectives and will develop and change over time.

4 Person Specification Essential CIPD qualified (level 7 advanced). Experience of successfully leading projects and initiatives to deliver innovative results in often complex and difficult situations. Ability to build credibility and rapport, maintaining effective working relationships at all levels. Enthusiastic and self-motivated, able to work flexibly to support a range of projects with different priorities and timescales. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to influence key parties and work with sensitivity and tact. Ability to exercise initiative and proactivity with evidence of a problem solving and nonbureaucratic approach. Ability to make appropriate judgements taking account of a range of data. Evidence of supporting and working effectively with other team members. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Commitment to personal development. Desirable Experience of developing or supporting reward and talent systems. Experience of designing and facilitating workshops and training. Experience of job evaluation / role analysis. Experience of negotiating with trade union representatives.
