4 WELCOME LETTER Dear Clemson Family, I am pleased to present you with the first edition of the Fraternity and Sorority Life Annual Report. This report will provide a comprehensive review of the performance of the fraternity and sorority community during the academic year. For this initial report, we included membership and academic data, reports from our five governing councils and awards recipients. The academic year was a period of transition in Fraternity and Sorority Life. This year, I joined Brianna Lombardozzi and Dr. Kendra Stewart-Tillman to work for the Clemson University Greek community. Highlights from the year are listed below: Four fraternities and sororities rejoined our community after being dormant for several years. Pi Kappa Phi started the first phase of their expansion into the Interfraternity Council (IFC) in March 2014 and will complete their initial class during the fall 2014 semester. The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) added three chapters when Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma and Sigma Gamma Rho became active. Beta Upsilon Chi was granted associate membership with IFC. The Epsilon Kappa chapter of Order of Omega was one of four chapters in the nation to receive the Outstanding Chapter Award from the Order of Omega national headquarters in Feb The Interfraternity Council received the Fraternal Excellence Award at the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference in Feb The College Panhellenic Council (CPC) was recognized by the Southeastern Panhellenic Association for Excellence in Leadership and Circle of Sisterhood Impact in March will mark the 45th anniversary of our local chapters chartering with national organizations. Fraternity and Sorority Life staff are committed to challenging the chapters and councils to create better men and women who will become engaged citizens upon graduation. Whether you are a faculty member, headquarters representative or a parent reading this report, we look forward to partnering with you in helping to achieve our goals with the fraternity and sorority community. Go Tigers! Gary Wiser, Ed.D. Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life 3 CLEMSON FRATERNITY AND SORORITY LIFE clemsongreeklife.com

10 COLLEGE PANHELLENIC COUNCIL REPORT Clemson s CPC made great strides in unifying Panhellenic chapters on campus, increasing communication and creating an approachable environment between the CPC community and its leaders. RECRUITMENT In an effort to move toward a more values-based recruitment system, CPC hosted KJ McNamara of Phired Up! Productions to speak on two different occasions one for chapters and one for recruitment counselors. These events were dedicated to teaching current members how to ask questions during recruitment that focused more on a potential new member s values rather than surface-level questions. To build a better relationship with Potential New Members (PNMs) before they reach Clemson in the fall, CPC sent weekly blog posts to PNMs explaining what to expect during recruitment and how to ensure a smooth and comfortable transition. CPC also created a recruitment video to introduce interested young women to each chapter s specific values. CIRCLE OF SISTERHOOD A Circle of Sisterhood Committee was created to plan a Circle of Sisterhood Week, dedicated to raising money to enhance the lives of girls and women around the world through education. CPC hosted a BBQ, a viewing of Half the Sky, tabling, raffles throughout the week and an educational program from TJ Sullivan entitled Motivating the Middle. More than $2,000 was raised during the spring semester. CPC selected one woman from each sorority to participate in the Panhellenic trek to Senegal, Africa. This trip will take place during summer AWARDS CPC received two awards at the 2014 Southeastern Panhellenic Conference. They were recognized for their work with the Circle of Sisterhood and their leadership development efforts. 11 INTERFRATERNITY COUNCIL REPORT OVERVIEW In the past year the Clemson Interfraternity Conference has accomplished many things. They have accumulated countless hours of community service and donated a great amount of money to philanthropies not only in the local community but nationally as well. The Clemson Interfraternity Council was recognized by the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference (SEIFC) as one of the most successful fraternity communities in the Southeastern region by being awarded the designation of Fraternal Excellence at SEIFC On top of all of these great accomplishments, they welcomed two new groups to our community and look forward to a bright future of service and engagement on Clemson s campus. In creating this foundation the IFC has adapted policies related to the new member process, recruitment and scholastic guidelines. With these new policies, IFC has shown once again that they are committed to adding value to the University community and student experience. They believe that these changes will allow them to continue to attract Clemson s best and brightest students. The Clemson University Interfraternity Council is extremely proud of the progress made in the past year and look forward to the bright future, numerous opportunities and endless potential these policies created. 12 NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL (NPHC) REPORT The past year has been an exciting time for NPHC, Fraternity and Sorority Life and Clemson University as a whole. Our dedicated students have contributed to the success of many academic, service and social events that have positively impacted our campus. NPHC has spent the year revamping its structure in a way that better serves its Clemson community. In the fall, NPHC hosted the first NPHC Week in several years. The week consisted of daily student-focused events geared towards bringing different groups together in a fun and engaging environment. Events such as Greek jeopardy and football tailgates encouraged students to feel welcomed and appreciated by their Greek community. In the spring, NPHC focused heavily on internal growth as they hosted a networking mixer for leaders in the Greek community. The productive yet social environment allowed students from all councils to mingle and discuss ways to make a better Clemson. NPHC also witnessed a large amount of growth with two fraternities returning and new membership classes in seven organizations. The past year was filled with exciting memories that NPHC only hopes to build upon in coming years! LEADERSHIP Arthur Thrower, President Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. 13 ORDER OF OMEGA EPSILON KAPPA CHAPTER The purpose of Order of Omega is to recognize those fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in interfraternity activities, encourage them to continue along this line and inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment. We strive to unite outstanding fraternity men and women to create an organization that will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate fraternity affairs. Order of Omega brings together faculty, alumni and students of the institution s fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness. We create an atmosphere where ideas and issues can be discussed openly to find solutions to problems across the entire Fraternity and Sorority Life community. In 2013, Epsilon Kappa Chapter was Nationally Awarded Outstanding Chapter Award. RECRUITMENT Recruitment takes place both fall and spring semesters through an application process. Applications are generally accepted in October and February. In spring 2014, our chapter welcomed 57 new members representing 26 different IFC, NPHC and CPC organizations. Order of Omega also sponsors a Greek Mentorship Program that partners juniors and seniors in the community with freshmen and sophomores. This past spring we revamped the program to include more than academic help. It is now a well-rounded program full of important information including academic resources, campus involvement information, community service opportunities, internships, co-ops and leadership opportunities within and outside their organization. OFFICERS President: Emily Miller Vice President of Academics: Cary Lynn Nabors Vice President of Finance and Philanthropy: Walker Blanding Vice President of Membership: Iesha Hayward Vice President of Programming: Creighton Segars Vice President of Public Relations: Ali Fehling PROGRAMMING Order of Omega hosts the Fraternity and Sorority Life Banquet every spring to recognize chapters and individual members of the community for their outstanding academic and philanthropic achievements. Our chapter also hosts academic study hours for the entire community. The organization with the highest attendance receives a prize at the end of the semester; in the past we have rewarded that chapter with a study room to themselves for the entire week of exams. The Greek of the Month program recognizes a Fraternity and Sorority Life student each month for their contributions to the Greek community. We encourage students to nominate others from chapters and councils different from their own. The Academic Success Summit invites Fraternity and Sorority Life members who have received below a 2.7 GPA the prior semester for a day of programming including a keynote speaker, study tips, and information on available resources at Clemson. The Summit in the fall of 2013 had over 100 attendees. CLEMSON FRATERNITY AND SORORITY LIFE clemsongreeklife.com 12
