1 Events Tasmania Grants Program Guidelines and application form Marketing Tasmania
2 The Events Tasmania Grants Program Thank you for your interest in the Events Tasmania Grants Program. This document provides guidelines and an application form for organisations interested in seeking funding through the Marketing Tasmania grants category. Before you submit your application form, please read the guidelines and us to confirm your eligibility. Getting in touch with us before you apply for a grant is an important part of the application process. About Events Tasmania Events are an incredibly important part of the visitor economy. They create a trigger for travel, promote regional dispersal of visitors and generate fantastic stories and images that in turn increase people s desire to visit Tasmania. Housed within the Department of State Growth, Events Tasmania delivers part of the Tasmanian Government Events Strategy ; to deliver a balanced events portfolio that enhances Tasmania s reputation as a tourism destination. Events supported through Events Tasmania return around $100 million to the Tasmanian economy each year, as well as creating jobs and engendering pride in our state. Our support and funding programs have been developed to maintain a balanced events portfolio that: attracts people to Tasmania; supporting the joint strategy between the tourism industry and government to increase visitor numbers to Tasmania to 1.5 million per year by 2020; encourages Tasmanians to move around the state; and gets people talking about Tasmania through their own circles of influence. About the program Established in 2002, the Events Tasmania Grants Program has provided funds to over 1000 events. Around $ is available through the Events Tasmania Grants Program this year under the following grant categories: Touring grants Marketing Tasmania grants Championship grants One-off Assistance grants More information about the Events Tasmania Grants Program is available at Cover photograph courtesy Catherine Forge and The Falls Festival 2
3 About Marketing Tasmania grants Events Tasmania is committed to increasing the number of people coming to Tasmania, getting visitors and locals travelling around the state, and getting everybody talking about Tasmania in a positive light. Events that market Tasmania as a destination in addition to, or as an integrated part of their event marketing, are a significant contributor to achieving these aims. The images and stories about Tasmania that event organisers provide to their audiences through various channels including print, digital, PR and social media, and that their audiences also share, are valuable marketing tools and often referred to as content. To support this important work being done by events, Events Tasmania is offering grants of up to $ in funding which must be matched equally in cash expenditure by the event organisers. For example, if you have a special marketing project which will cost $6 000 in cash (after any in kind contributions), you can apply to Events Tasmania for $3 000 and provide the matching $3 000 yourselves. The Marketing Tasmania grants will support your event to approach and attract a specific target market so as to bring more people to Tasmania, get more visitors and locals travelling to a Tasmanian regional area, and importantly get people hearing about and talking about Tasmania. Successful applicants will be event organisers who: Demonstrate a knowledge of how to market their event Show an understanding of event and destination marketing in general Present a compelling plan for their additional Marketing Tasmania project Have identified a target market and an effective way to reach them Have set a measurable target to assess the success of the project Can commit to matched grant funding on a 1:1 basis Marketing Tasmania grants are assessed within competitive grant rounds, grant funding is limited, and demand for this program is high. Marketing Tasmania grants are not intended to provide general support for an event or organisation, or be a contribution towards your event s overall marketing plan. They are provided for the delivery of a specific event marketing project within an event or event organisation, in addition to planned marketing. Details of your specific event marketing project will be the core component of your grant application. The event and proposed marketing project must be completed during the 2015/16 or 2016/17 financial years. Preference will be given to quality applications that can demonstrate how the proposed event and associated marketing project will drive visitation to regional parts of the state outside of the high tourism season. Application assessment A panel of marketing and specialists will assess applications on a qualitative basis. Assessment criteria Overall quality and feasibility of the additional Marketing Tasmania project as presented in the application. Identification of a viable potential target market or audience, level of knowledge of their motivations to travel and identified methods to reach them. The demonstrated marketing skill and ability of the project delivery team. Extent and quality of project integration into the event s overall marketing strategy. Quality and accuracy of project measurements. Assessors will consider the level of Tasmanian Government support already being provided to the organisers of an event, and to the event itself, as part of the assessment process. Remember that preference will be given to projects that offer substantial regional and seasonal benefits to Tasmania. 3
